Casey in clean up
04/26/2008 3:44 PM ETKotchman gets chance to clean upTied for AL lead in homers, first baseman moves up in lineupBy Lyle Spencer / MLB.com
Rewarding one of his hottest hitters, Angels manager Mike Scioscia elevated Casey Kotchman into the cleanup spot on Saturday against the Tigers, with Garret Anderson returning to the lineup in the sixth spot after a day off. Kotchman came into the game ranked third in the American League in slugging percentage at .598 and tied for the lead in homers with six. His .329 average had him seventh in the AL, and his 16 RBIs -- batting fifth through eighth in the order -- are second on the club to Gary Matthews Jr.'s 18. "The way he's swinging the bat, I want him to get more RBI chances," Scioscia said, having watched Kotchman deliver two runs on Friday night with a single in a 4-3 win. "I like the way he's swinging against lefties. He works counts, hits to all fields. Right now, he's a good fit to hit there." Go Warhawks  2001
