FC Seguin Select Soccer
What It's All About

What Is It?
FC Seguin is the select soccer club program of the Seguin Youth Soccer Club for boys and girls from U11-U18. The goal of the FC Seguin program is to provide boys and girls with additional opportunities for soccer skill development in a more competitive environment than is available through recreational soccer.

Who Can Participate?
Boys and Girls with birthdays between 8/1/1995 and 7/31/2003 are eligible to participate. Although prior soccer experience is not required to try out, only youth with the appropriate skill level will be accepted into the program.

When Is It?
Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, May 28th and Wednesday, May 29th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Nelda Softball Complex. Each team will then participate in a weeklong “Boot Camp” experience in the evening in June. Training takes place twice weekly for 90 minutes in the evenings beginning in July and continuing through May with a break over the holidays.

The fall season begins in September and runs until mid-November. Spring season begins in late March and runs until mid-May. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays. There are typically 2-3 Sunday games in fall and 2-3 in spring, all in the afternoons.

Tournament play at the end of each season is possible depending on how teams perform. When joining the FC Seguin program, the player and family commit to participate for the FULL YEAR.

Where Is It?
Team training is held in Seguin. Home games are played in Seguin as well. Away games are played in the San Antonio area.

How Much Does It Cost?
The cost breakdown is as follows:
• $150 Kit Fee-this covers the cost of the uniform. Uniforms are replaced every other year. The kit fee is due at the time of Boot Camp.
• $65 Fall Fee-this covers fall registration. This is due by September 1.
• $65 Spring Fee-this covers spring registration. This is due by March 1.

What Do I Have to Do?
Aside from paying required fees and making sure the player attends training and games, there are three specific parent responsibilities:
• Fundraising-participation in fundraising activities to offset some of the costs of the program is required. Specific fundraising activities are determined year-to-year.
• Team Manager-each team must have one parent serve as Team Manager. The Team Manager is responsible for coordinating uniform ordering and fundraising for his/her team.
• Coach-each team must have a coach and assistant coach. For some teams, this coaching team is already in place. For others, coaches are needed. The Seguin Youth Soccer Club will arrange and pay for coaching education.

Refund Policy

Players withdrawing BEFORE the first game of the season by e-mail or personal contact with the Registrar will be completely refunded. Please notify ASAP in order to allow for another player to take your child’s place.

The Seguin Youth Soccer Club is announcing a new name and logo for the teams that play at the “competitive” level. These teams play within the Alamo Area Youth soccer teams that range from Boerne to Flatonia to include all of the San Antonio teams.

Fifteen years ago you would have heard the name “Seguin Sidekicks” for the traveling teams from Seguin Youth Soccer.  The SYSC Board, with the help of Dr. Bob Stephens, who is a coach for one of the teams, updated the name and logo to “FC Seguin”.  “FC” is a traditional title that stands for Football Club.  And although our players have come from as far as Stockdale, Nixon- Smiley and LaVernia, we still chose to focus our name on the City of Seguin since that is where we were founded.  In fact, current City Councilman Nick Carillo was on one of the original boards that created SYSC, along with other great volunteers.

The change reflects the growth in soccer in Seguin, especially at the competitive level.  Our teams start at the recreational level, or Division III, and at the competitive level, or Division II.  SYSC has four traveling teams this year as compared to two last year. And as an added bonus, all four teams made it to the first round of the Championship playoffs due to their Fall 2011 season schedule.

The soccer classifications represent an age group; so for example, our oldest team is an Under 19 team made up of 18 and 17 year olds.  Our other teams are a u/16, u/13 and u/11 teams that all made it to the first round of playoffs! This is representative the commitment made by the coaches, players and families to play soccer at a higher level.  The two younger teams played in the Division III recreation league while the two older teams are playing Division II competitive soccer.

We are grateful that the growth of recreational soccer here in Seguin has allowed us to support these older competitive teams in a way that positively represent SYSC and the City of Seguin.
