Sedgwick County Soccer Association: About Us

Enabling youth ages 4-19 to experience and excel at the game of soccer!

A non-profit organization, Sedgwick County Soccer Association (SCSA) was founded in June of 1991 by a small group of soccer enthusiasts who were interested in merging KJSF and WUSA into a unified soccer league. Today, we have over 200 teams that involve over 3,000 players, 400 coaches and many fans including parents & grandparents. Each weekend, SCSA competition brings out an average of 2,000 people to our 60-acre sports complex in south Wichita. Most teams come from the Wichita area, however some travel from communities such as Hutchinson, Salina, Newton, Derby & Hays to compete.

OUR PRIMARY PURPOSE

The primary purpose of SCSA is to provide opportunities to enable youth players, ages 4-19, to realize their potential in the game of soccer by developing their skills and knowledge to the greatest extent possible. Our goals include:

  • Providing a safe environment in the highest quality and best-organized league possible.
  • Encouraging teams to participate in competitive play against teams from other areas through tournaments.
  • Help prepare individual players for higher-level competition, including high school, college and state team play.
  • Encourage development of soccer by sponsoring referee and coaching certification clinics to help upgrade the local skill level in these areas.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

SCSA coaches strive to develop the child's appreciation of the game and aim to keep winning and losing in proper perspective. Being sensitive to each child's developmental needs, we educate the players to the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological demands of the game for their level. Rules are introduced and equipment modified according to the players’ age group. Players are allowed to experience all positions. Having fun and hearing positive feedback are a big part of the experience on an SCSA team.

WHEN AND WHERE DO WE PLAY?

SCSA offers a Fall Season (August — October) and a Spring Season (March—May.) Opportunities for both recreational and competitive players exist. Those who wish to play in a recreational setting are placed on appropriate teams. Competitive teams are available for ages U9-U19. Competitive players are chosen by the coaches, usually by tryouts.

Games are played at Southlakes Soccer Complex at 47th & Meridian in Wichita. We have 22 fields, paved parking, on-site concessions and restroom facilities. Games are played on Saturdays & Sundays. Many families have more than one child participating in SCSA soccer and enjoy spending their weekend time at our fields and in the surrounding area.

WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE KIDS?

SCSA is governed by a 7-member board of directors, all volunteers. The majority of coaches for our teams are also volunteers and are usually the parent of a child on the team. Training and licensing are strongly encouraged. Coaching clinics are offered periodically by SCSA through Kansas Youth Soccer. Referees are USYS certified.
