RECERTIFICATION FOR USSF REFEREES - SPRING 2012
RECERTIFICATION FOR USSF REFEREES
Recertification classes are listed on the website (www.kansasreferee.net).
The first one is DECEMBER 10.
You MUST attend a recertification class to referee outdoor during 2012.
Grade 8 referees (black badge) should attend a "C" class (regular recert).
Grade 9 referees (blue badge) should attend a "B" class which will upgrade you to grade 8.
Get signed up and get the classes on your calendar so you don't miss out. Not attending a recert during the winter will cause you to miss the entire 2012 season (fall included) so don't assume that you could skip these and then attend a recert in the summer....we no longer do summer recert classes.

FALL SEASON FOLLOW-UP FROM DIRECTOR OF OFFICIALS
First of all, I would like to thank all the referees and the other SCSA Staff for all the work done in the Fall Season to help make it a success. It was a relatively uneventful season for serious issues from the standpoint of refereeing games. The feedback received from coaches involved complaints or comments on offsides and roughness of play in the younger age groups. The offsides complaints come every year. This is the most difficult Law to understand and to apply on the field of play. It is difficult for us to do much more than cover the application of the Law in our pregame preparation to insure we apply it in the best possible manner. The roughness of play in the younger age groups we can do something about. In our preseason meeting, we covered "calling more fouls" in these age groups and we will continue to make this a priority in future seasons. Clumsy or over zealous play in the younger age groups, where there is contact involved, should be called as a foul. We need to insure the health and safety of the young players and make the game enjoyable for the players, coaches, and fans.

Want to referee indoor soccer? Or futsal leagues at WSU?
| Even though SCSA is not having an indoor sponsored league this winter, there are still indoor and futsal games being scheduled by other groups. We will be having an indoor/futsal clinic to teach the Laws and certify referees for these games. There is one Futsal League, in the Wichita area, that is affiliated with US Soccer. Those games will be played at either, the YMCAs or Wichita State University and will be scheduled by Mark Bernat. Contact Mark at mark.bernat@gmail.com One word of caution, if the indoor league(s) is not affiliated with US Soccer, you cannot wear your badges and your provided personal liability insurance coverage is not valid. If you are not sure, then please contact me and I will research the league, to see if it is an affiliated organization. I will emphasize, if you are referreeing indoor games you will need to call more fouls. The indoor game is faster and because of the size of the field there will be more contact. Tempers can easily flare up so it is our job to keep the fouling under control. |
