Sebring Youth Fastpitch Softball: Welcome
UPDATE 04/02/13: Please see our MidSeason Tournament Page for 2013 details and rules.
Here are some further details regarding the 2013 Spring Season:
- The Miss Florida Softball organization hosts a Mid-Season tournament. The tournament is open to ALL teams willing to participate and is scheduled in Winter Haven, Friday, April 5th through Sunday, April 7th. The tournament is single seed, single elimination. So each team is guaranteed two games in the tournament. This should be a fun and exciting event for all players and parents alike. We would like all of our teams to participate, however each team must have at least 8 players who are willing to commit to traveling that weekend. If the team has a least 8 willing to participate, they may pick up two players from another team but those players must bat last in the lineup and will not be allowed to play infield positions. The actual game days and times will not be released until a week or so prior to the tournament.
- Miss Florida also hosts an All-Star Tournament. This tournament is scheduled in Lithia, FL starting Friday, May 17th through Sunday, May 19th. Players will be selected by a committee of coaches and Board members. Our goal is to send one team per age group.
- As we did in 2012, we will be contracting with USSSA, a nationally recognized Softball association, to provide umpires for our games. If you are at least 16 yrs old and interested in becoming an umpire (get paid up to $35 per game!), in becoming an official scorekeeper, or in being a coach, team parent or Board Member please see Dawn McManus or Delia Pugh for more information.
- Volunteering your time is very important to us. As many of you are aware, there are principally three people who run this league. We are finiding that it is becoming increasingly difficult to balance this responsibility with our personal lives. As such and because we did not get enough parent support for last year's BBQ, we will not be conducting a 2013 Opening Day BBQ. We sincerely want to keep this league growing strong but need your help to do so. We are desperately searching for Board Memebers, Committee Volunteers, Team Parents, etc. Please see Dawn McManus (email at dmcmanus64@embarqmail.com), Delia Pugh (414-8920 after 5pm), or Sean McManus (407) 454-2565 for more information on how you can help.
Dates to Remember:
- March 4, 2013 through May 3, 2013 - Regular Season
- April 5, 2013 through April 7, 2013 - Mid Season Tournament in Winter Haven
- May 17, 2013 through May 19, 2013 - All Star Tournament in Lithia
If you have ANY questions, please don't hesitate to shoot Dawn an email at dmcmanus64@embarqmail.com.
- What does my child need? Many questions have been asked regarding what equipment a new player should have. The only required piece of equipment for girls is a glove. We would like to see each girl bring a helmet with chin strap, but we do have some loaners available for use during practice and games. Check out our Links section for a guide on what bat to buy. We also have loaner bats! Cleats are not a necessity for the girls, but are helpful.
- What are the practice days and times? The practice schedule is entirely at theTeam Manager/Coach's discretion. Based on past experience, practices are generally held weeknights starting between 5:30 and 6:30 and last about an hour to an hour and a half. This will be determined at your Parent Meeting with the Coach on the first night of practice. We expect the practices to begin in the middle of September.
- What are the game days and times? Games will begin at 6:15pm on weeknights. The game schedule will span 4 weeks with 2 to 3 games per week. We expect games to begin in the second half of February.
- What if my child has never played softball before? That's great! We love to welcome new girls to the sport and everyone has to start somewhere. We have coaches who will teach your daughter to throw, catch, and hit the ball. For girls under the age of 8, the ball is pitched by the coach.
- I would like to help out. Who can I contact? Volunteers for Coaches, Team Parents, and Board or Committee Members is always welcome! If you are interested, please send an email to dmcmanus64@embarqmail.com. Since we are a relatively new league, we appreciate all the help we can get. Volunteering will give you the opportunity to play a role in the creation of what we hope will be a very successful organization.
Our continued thanks goes out to Progress Energy for their ongoing support during the registration process!!!
