New Power Weight Rack Stations Installed at Seaholm
As developments and growth are taking place in all aspects of the Seaholm Football program, the team was pleased to see three new power weight rack stations installed in the weight room this Wednesday, April 10. Facility upgrades are an important part of Coach DeWald's vision for the future and give our players the best opportunity to train, and eventually compete, to the full extent of their potential. This new equipment not only helps the Maple Football Program, but is of course available for the use and benefit of all Seaholm athletes. Thanks to the Boosters and to the school and Athletic Department for their assistance and contribution to the continuing betterment of Seaholm athletics. Tuesday, April 2

Spring Update
Dear Parents, As we enter spring, I thought I would brief you on the state of the Maple Football Program. As most of you know, we have been extremely busy since the completion of our 2012 OAA Championship season. We are currently in the heart of our off-season workout program. Being that the off-season is where championships are won, I am very happy to report to you that I am extremely proud of the work our young men have put in thus far. Throughout the winter, we have held workouts five days per week. Three days per week, the boys are in the weight room and two days per week getting personal training at the 2SP facility. Joe Neal, the owner of 2SP and our strength and conditioning coach, has implemented a fantastic program that specifically addresses our goal of being bigger, faster and stronger. We have already seen phenomenal growth in many of our young men because of Joe’s tutelage. Coach Shellenbarger and Coach Boerkoel are working the boys extremely hard on a daily basis to ensure they follow the program effectively and safely, as to maximize their potential within these workouts. At the close of the 2012 football season, we tested all of our returning players in the areas of: height, weight, bench press, power clean, squat, vertical jump, long jump, 40 yard dash, pro shuttle, dips, pull-ups, and the amount of times they can bench press their body weight. This was our baseline individual and team testing in December. Last week, we re-tested all these areas to gauge our levels of improvement. The following are highlights of where that improvement took place: ü Team body weight: up from 177 to 187 (up 10 lbs.) ü Team bench press: up from 177 to 209 (up 32 lbs.) ü Team power clean: up from 175 to 198 (up 23 lbs.) ü Team squat: up from 248 to 294 (up 46 lbs.) ü Team 40 yd dash: down from 5.35 to 5.21 (better by .14 secs.) The start of spring is highlighted by our traditional WEEK OF CHAMPIONS, which takes place this week (March 25-28). This annual undertaking is a mandatory week of morning workouts for all Maple football players. Not only is this week tremendous from a physical growth standpoint, it most importantly takes our team camaraderie to the next level and provides us with great momentum moving into the summer. Week of Champions takes place from 6am to 7am and consists of a multitude of training and conditioning stations and six second drills. Our entire football staff will be in attendance at all these workouts and is very much looking forward to working hard alongside the boys. We understand that consecutive morning workouts such as this can sometimes be disruptive to the schedule of both parents and players, but we feel this 4-day period is as important a piece to our off season workout program as anything we do. We truly appreciate your support of Week of Champions and Maple Football as a whole. Whistle blows each morning at 6am…don’t be late!! Go Maples!! Off Season Update from Coach DeWald
Parents, I would like to update everyone on our progress thus far this off season. The kids are currently lifting weights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00 to 4:15 pm while our incoming freshman are working out 2 days a week Monday through Thursday at night. We also are having speed improvement sessions at 2SP, Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and Sautrdays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. We welcome all Seaholm Football players to those workouts. We highly encourage our football players to participate in other sports to keep them busy and to better their overall athletic ability. However, if a football player is not participating in another sport for Seaholm we expect them at every workout session. Our players that are working out every day are working very hard and seem to get better each day. I am very pleased with their efforts. On weight lifting days we are averaging around 25 kids and around 18 at our speed improvement sessions. I am looking forward to retesting our players in March to see their improvements on paper. We are currently working with a "GVT" philosohy. This German Volume Training philosophy has us working our core lifts (Bench, Squat, Power Clean and Deadlift) with a high volume of sets and reps. A typical wourout would be 10 sets of 10 repetitions on these core lifts. We have 3 more weeks in this cycle and then we will go to a metabolic workout and then test the kids. I have also attached our players latest workout numbers so you can monitor your child's progress. (Please note: the attachment will be provided to you seperately, via email). I am very proud of our progress thus far. Our players seem to rise to our expectations every day. I am looking forward to this upcoming 2013 season, in which we will try and defend our league championship. If you ever have any questions or would like to know how your son is doing please don't hesitate to call me. Thanks, Jim DeWald
8th Grade Players are Eager and Committed
As the Spring of 2013 approaches, and as serious off-season speed, strength and agility training is underway by the current Maple football players, Freshman Head Coach Tony Barash is pleased to report that the group of incoming 8th graders looks as solid as ever. 43 of them have committed to weight training at least two days a week . . . and many of them have committed to even more. According to Coach Barash, "They're not only strong in number, but they're athletic and physically strong as well." The Seaholm Football program is excited to welcome these incoming student-athletes, and anticipates that the numbers will grow as the off-season progresses. The current 8th graders that have already committed to athletic hard work, and excellence, include: Maxwell Abrams, Michael Aquino, Brian Bennett, Blair Boorekoel, Jack Boyd, Jacob Brazil, Zack Brazil, Lane Cortright, Wyatt Credeur, Kyle Cummings, John Dolan, Tyler Erb, Sebastian Fettig, Clay Gilling, Graham Girdler, Luke Harding, Matthew Harrison, Zackary Jennings, Max Joelson, Josh Jolly, Michael Kaminski, John Karimpour, Jake Lievois, Shane McCarthy, Joe McElroy, Henry Mendal, Harrison Menuck, Liam Neal, Ben Nepa, Elisha Neuner, Jordan Nickerson, Nicholas O'Reilly-Trexer, Stephan Paige, Liam Pierce, Jonathon Rondeau, Matt Roskiewicz, Jackson Schreiber, Michael Schulz, Max Sherrod, Alex Shulman, Donovan Uhnavy, Andrew Wilt, Austin Woodruff
8th Grade Players and Parents Meet Seaholm Football
The future looked bright on Tuesday night when incoming 8th grade players and parents filled Seaholm's Little Theater for a brief orientation to Seaholm football. Program and Varsity Head Coach Jim DeWald gave a general introduction, presented a short highlight film and introduced Booster president Geoff Hill before turning the floor over to Freshman Head Coach Tony Barash. Coach Barash outlined the Spring strength and conditioning program for the 8th graders and took questions from the parents before providing a tour of the weight lifting facilities. For the second year in a row, it looks as though Coach Barash has done a great job of reaching out to the area middle schools and welcoming incoming student athletes. Also present at the meeting were Varsity DB's Coach Jamie Boerkoel and Freshman Assistant Coaches Jordan Deane and Andrew Kulha. Tuesday, January 8
Conditioning - The Foundation of it All
As you strive to increase your strength, power and speed, you must realize that your ability and potential to do so are directly affected by your overall conditioning.
As you expand the base of your conditioning, you will also expand your overall potential for strength, power and speed. If you want to significantly change who you are as an overall athlete, you CANNOT ignore conditioning throughtout the winter months.
When you understand this overall picture, you'll understand the most important aspect of making yourself bigger, stronger and faster.
You CAN become stronger than you believe. You CAN become more powerful than you believe. And you CAN become faster than you believe.
But you MUST must be better conditioned to expand your current potential.
