SEACOAST NH MSBL 2009 INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Teams from Manchester, Portland, Portsmouth and our own Seacoast league participated over Columbus Day weekend. In the 28+ Division Pat Sbrizza's Collins Sports Center team made the Finals after defeating the Seacoast NH MSBL team led by George Muller 9-3 in the Semi-Finals. The next stop was a battle with the Manchester MABL team led by Aaron Urquhart and Ben Davis in the finals. Manchester would take the match-up 1-0 as the lone run came home on a sharply hit ball by Urquhart the could not be handled by the shortstop. Greg Brown was the tough luck loser allowing just that unearned run.
In the 35+ Division...Lenny Fox's Portland Indians defeated the Rob Garland Seacoast team 5-3 to advance to the Finals against the Clair Crandall led Maine Diamond Dogs. The Indians took a 1-0 advantage into the 8th before the Diamond Dogs bats came alive. Crandall doubled in the Dogs first run to tie the score and the hits kept coming from several players. The Final was 8-2 Dogs. Jim Doran went the distance for the win.
Special thanks to all who particpated and we look forward to seeing you all back next year!!

2009 SEACOAST NH MSBL WORLD SERIES
The top seeded Gamer Soda Red Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in game-1 over the defending champion and second seeded Page Pro Wireless Diamondbacks. The big hit was a run scoring single by Al Buell in a 2-run first inning. Sox righty Dana Gilbert was cruising along with a no-hitter through five innings as all looked good for the Sox. In the sixth D'Back Bob Nadeau singled and later scored to make it a 3-1 score. In the seventh the D'backs tied the score as Paul Brooks led off by being hit by a pitch...Dan Reader and Mike Hannon followed with singles to load the bases. Two outs later Pat Sbrizza lined a single to right scoring Brooks and Reader. The D'backs would score again in the eighth as Greg Brown scored on a sacrifice fly by Sun Kay Chu making it 4-3 Diamondbacks. Don George did the rest on the hill as they took game-1 by that 4-3 score.
Game #2 featured a great pitchers duel between Sox Lefty Al Buell and D'back right hander Greg Brown. Buell would allow just 4-hits but Brown would get he better of him by tossing a 2-hitter. The D'backs would score a single run in the first as Mike Hannon doubled and later scored on an error. Another run came home in the second as D'back third-baseman Rich Beaupre scored on a ground out by Pat Bergin amking it 2-0 Diamondbacks. The Red Sox would score a run in the third as Ron Crickard scored on a D'back error. That would be all the scoring as both pitchers threw excellent games. The 2-1 victory game the Diamondbacks the championship two game to none in the best of three series.

Portland 2007...."Oil Can" Boyd was on the ropes.
Behind the arm of Ronnie Mitchell the 35+ team representing our league advanced to the semi-finals of the Downeast wood Bat Classic. In the semi's the old folks held a 3-2 advantage before losing 4-3 in the last inning. Al Buell tried his best but a nagging hamstring limited him and Rob Garland finished the game. Bob Nadeau and Rich Beaupre had multi-hit games against the "Can" but Buell had a big 2-run hit off the former Sox righthander. Ben Ruggles left his mark on Oil Can that he will not soon forget. Cameron Paine did a great job behind the plate and all the players who participated should be proud of there efforts and contributions.
