WELCOME TO THE SEACOAST LIGHTNING WEB SITE
This site will contain various information from important dates, schedules, game results and rosters. Thursday, April 26 Lightning Represented in Make-A-Wish All-Star Classic We are pleased to announce that four Seacoast Lightning (soon to be the Lady Freeze) players will represent New Hampshire in the annual Make A Wish Vermont New Hampshire All-Star Hockey Classic. The game will be played at Gutterson Field House, University of Vermont, June 23, 2007. Make A Wish began in 1980, when a seven year old boy in Phoenix, Arizona with leukemia expressed his wish to be a police officer. A group of officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety granted his wish by giving him a custom made uniform, helmet, badge and even a helicopter ride! The young boys delight in having his wish granted inspired the group to form an organization which would grant special wishes of other children. Any child under 18 years of age who has been determined by their physician to have a life-threatening medical condition is eligible for a wish. Make A Wish grants wishes to eligible children regardless of race, religion or socioeconomic status. The annual all star classic will showcase the very best high school seniors from New Hampshire and Vermont. The event started in 1993 with just boys but expanded in 1998 to also include a girls game. Without question the competition on the ice will be intense but the spirit of cooperation to raise money for the Make A Wish foundation will be tremendous. Congratulations to all the athletes on being given the unique opportunity to represent their community, school and hockey organization. Their participation in this event will assist in making dreams come true. Whether it is your dream to play hockey or the dream of a young child to see Mickey Mouse, this NH/VT Hockey Classic will fulfill those dreams and so much more. The Lightning players are: Rachel McLaughlin, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Michelle Gitschier and Hanna Long from Oyster River High School and Nikki Hume from Winnacunnet High School. All four of these players also won State Championships with their Seacoast Lightning team. The head coach of the team will be Christina Dotchin from Proctor Academy. The Lightning is also pleased to announce that Al Oliveira and Jamie Long will be assisting Christina. This is Als second trip to the event; in 2004 he was the head coach. Friday, February 16 THE LADY FREEZE - A NEW BEGINNING A new program with a rich tradition We are proud to announce the formation of The Lady Freeze! A program focused on meeting the needs of girls and young women who aspire to play hockey at a competitive level. The Lady Freeze has been born out of the rich tradition of the Seacoast Lightning which was founded in 1995 as the first organization in New Hampshire dedicated to providing a competitive and fun hockey experience for girls of all ages. In January 2007 organizers of the Lightning, the Freeze and the Exeter Ice House explored opportunities to take our girls hockey program to the next level. The result has been the formation of a new organization, the Lady Freeze, one that combines the passion and insight of people dedicated to girls hockey with the experience and resources of the Freeze organization and the Exeter Ice House. The Lady Freeze will begin play in the 2007-2008 season. They then had Friday off before they returned to the ice on Saturday for two games. In the opening game of the day they beat Concord 9 -1 then later in the day a 5 1 win was posted over Dover. Friday night saw the U19 White team begin their road to the Tier One championship. They met a strong Dover team who beat them 5 2. Saturday was a different day for the ladies from the Seacoast. In a back and forth game the U19 White beat the Lady Monarchs 5 - 3. Championship Sunday began with the U12 final. Our U12 team was a finalist in the championship game and lost to Manchester 1 0. This year the U12 regional will be taking 2 teams from NH so they will heading to Rhode Island. The first game of the afternoon saw our U19 Black team matched up against Dover. It took more than half of the game before the Seacoast Lightning team scored. Shortly after that goal Dover came back to tie the game at 1. It took a strong third period by the whole team to score 2 more goals and win the State Championship 3 1. They will be headed to Connecticut for their regional Immediately after the U19 Black championship game the U19 White team took the ice in a quest to duplicate the prior results. The game started with a Lady Monarchs goal. The determined U19 White team came back to tie the game after a game ending injury to Seacoast Lightnings Danielle Hall. The next goal was scored by the Lady Monarchs but it took the Lightning less than one minute to tie the score again. The third period saw an early goal by the Lightning who never looked back as they won the game 4 2 for their State Championship. They will be headed to Vermont for their regional. Best of Luck to all three teams as they will represent New Hampshire and the Seacoast Lightning at the regionals.
