Recruit 3 Friends, Get a Free Advanced Training

RECRUIT 3 FRIENDS, GET A FREE ADVANCED TRAINING

Regarding the "three friends" deal, even with the "example" sent, I still am not clear; perhaps you can shed some light.  There is a one year clause in the deal...who does that apply to:  the one recruiting or the recruits:  meaning, if I have a cadet who has been in one year and he recruits three friends, does he qualify for the free training OR do the three friends have to be retained for the year.  I am assuming it is the latter, but need clarification.  I have not yet announced this to my cadets for lack for clarity.  Please advise.

Captain Rannells answers:

Good Question and one I have answered repeatedly -

The ones being recruited have to sign up for at least a year.  The cadet doing the recruiting gets a free training if the 3 friends sign up for a year..   To me that is the normal enrollment so what it comes down to is as long as they enroll, pay the fee and proceed on the normal path, the cadet gets the reward.

UNITED STATES NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS“THREE FRIENDS – FREE TRAINING” Recruiting Incentive Program Description Background: The cadet enrollment in the program has been steadily declining and requires some creative methods for recruiting new members.  Mission: To create a recruiting incentive program that will reward cadets/adult staff who actively strive to increase cadet enrollment in the program (not necessarily their own unit).  Execution: Program is executed as follows:1. Cadet/adult staff recruits three (3) new cadets who enroll in NLCC or NSCC program under following conditions: a. Must be new enrollments b. NSCADM001 must reflect enrollment for at least one year.2. Unit CO submits partially completed “Deposit Certificate” (NSCTNG 026, posted on Resources and linked from COMPASS) with copies of the 3 cadet application forms to RD. (NSCADM 001, front side only, clearly showing cadet or adult staff recruiters name on the application in block # 1s).Partially completed means the Deposit Certificate with the unit name, names of the 3 cadets recruited and their recruiter filled in, and unit CO signature. Deposit Certificates are non-replaceable (if lost, no replacements will be issued).3. RD signs the Deposit Certificate (this completes the certificate) and returns to the unit for cadet use in lieu of any deposit for any training of the cadets choice. RD may spot check with units to ensure maintenance of program integrity.4. Cadet attaches Deposit Certificate to Request for Training/Local Training Authority in place of monetary payment.  Administration: Incentive program is administered at the following levels:1. Cadets/Adult staff – insure that the individual they have recruited identifies them (the recruiter) as the recruiter in space #1s on the Cadet Application (NSCADM001) by entering the recruiters rank and name. Newly recruited cadets can join any unit.2. Unit – when a cadet/adult staff recruits three (3) qualified individuals and enrollment is completed(application and enrollment fee sent to NHQ), unit CO will copy the front side of the 3 Cadet Applications and submit to RD with partially completed Deposit Certificate (NSCTNG026) for signature and return to the unit.3. RD – RD reviews the 3 applications and the partially completed Deposit Certificate, then completes the Deposit Certificate by signing, makes a copy and returns the original Deposit Certificate to back to the unit. Unit CO issues the Deposit Certificate to the cadet who did the recruiting (or was credited with the recruiting). NHQ will spot check enrollments upon receipt of the Deposit Certificate from the COTC.4. COTC – Accepts the Deposit Certificate in place of the training deposit. If COTC needs additional start up funds for their training because these deposits are in lieu of actual training dollars, COTC is to request addition funds from NHQ. Communication/Logistics: This is an integrity-based program. The intent is to increase enrollment, utilizing existing systems, without placing significant additional burdens on any link of the chain of command. There is no limit on the number of Deposit Certificates that can be earned; Deposit Certificates are transferable to other cadets (cadets supporting one another); Deposit Certificates do not expire.

Free SAT-ACT Prep Software
Free SAT-ACT Prep Software

A group of National Football League (NFL) players and the eKnowledge Corp. are continuing their multi-million dollar sponsorship of SAT and ACT test preparation programs to all veterans, active-duty, reserve, and retired military members and their families, a $200 value. The Department of Defense created a secure website to quickly confirm a person's military status. Personnel can access the confirmation and request pages through several military-related associations and organizations, such as the Military Home Front website for families, which offers access to the forms to confirm military status and process the order. Programs ship to domestic U.S. addresses and APO addresses. The sponsorship covers the regular purchase price and the family pays only the shipping and handling. To learn more about the program and the NFL/CFL players who provide this offer visit their website.

2007 Annual Report

NSCC ANNUAL REPORT

Please advise your activities that the NSCC 2007 Annual Report is posted on the Sea Cadet home page and on the resources page at our web site. Unit COs should advise their cadets and parents of the report being on the web so all members have access to the report. We are looking to get maximum exposure for this report as it provides a great overview of the entire Sea Cadet program and operations. In addition to this, we are sending out a hard copy to all COs, ARDs, and RDs today.  They are requested to share this copy with their units, friends, and prospective cadets/ families. The Annual Report is one of the NSCC’s best recruiting tools. It fully explains the entire program.

BLUE JACKETS MANUAL HQ has been advised by the uniform depot at Great Lakes that the shop must get rid of several hundred Blue Jacket Manuals as soon as possible or they will be discarded. The recent move of the NSCC uniform depot resulted in considerably less space available to store various items. One of these is the current supply of Blue Jacket Manuals. These manual are great information resources on the Navy. The manual sell for 25 cents a copy; a great bargain. All units are encourage to get orders in for these manuals soonest as there is no room for them. Units are encourage to buy these manuals and stockpile them while they are available. Units must pay shipping charges, but with the manuals so inexpensive, the limited cost is still results in a ‘best buy’.

2008 Seal Challenge

SEAL CHALLENGE 2008

The 2008 Navy Seal Challenge held at NAS Lemoore had a large group of very dedicated, strong, and willing Sea Cadets.  Thanks to LT Terry Hetrick and all his staff for making this annual event such a success.

First there was a 500 yard swim with either a crawl or breast stroke, that’s nine long laps in an olympic size pool, and then comes the push-ups, not half push ups but full, all the way down and all the way up push-ups that were judged by active duty Navy Seals.  All the teams got a ten minute break between event and that was it, ten minutes and then on to the next challenge.  Sit-ups came next and they were Navy Seal sit-ups, not the quick, short crunches, cadets went all the way down and all the way up, it was “gut” wrenching for everyone.  Just about the time they were done they moved to the pull-up bars and after their 10 minute break to catch their breath, pull-ups became the next event.  All the way up and chin over the bar and all the way down.  It wasn’t easy for some and it was tough for even the seasoned jocks.  Next was a mile and half run on the dirt trail of the Par Course.  It was about 70 degrees with a slight breeze they were off!  Some finished in less than 9 minutes but the exciting news is, they all finished, no one gave up.

At the end of the day there were a few cadets that made Seal times and a few that made EOD times but everyone that entered the competition did a great job.  Everyone there had a good time and there were a lot of old friends that joined together with common goals and objectives.

The winner of the Seal Competition this year was Golden Bear out of Chico, California.  Congratulations to them and to everyone that made the trek to NAS Lemoore.

My guess is… 2009 will bring a lot of new cadets to the ever popular Navy Seal Challenge.

O'Kane Help Celebrate Lou Burgelin's Life

VALLEJO CELEBRATES 92 YEARS OF SERVICE

O'Kane Division Cadets helped make Mr. Lou Burgelin’s dinner a success at the Mare Island Museum.  It seemed like it came easy but it was a lot of hard work, directing traffic, setting tables, serving dinner, cleaning up after, color guard, and a special HooH YaaH for the very special Head of the Vallejo Navy League, Lou Burgelin.  Great job by all those cadets and parents that helped out, you brought in $651 for O'Kane from over 225 guests.  You all are awesome!!

Seal Challenge NAS Lemoore 8 March 2008

SEAL CHALLENGE NAS LEMOORE

Time is growing short for getting in your entries for the SEAL Challenge.  As of tonight, we have only gotten rosters from a couple of units.  We have 3 complete teams and 1 partial team so far.  That's along way from previous years. The date for the SEAL Challenge again is March 8 at Lemoore NAS.  Cutoff to get rosters in is February 29, so that I can get the list of names to Lemoore NAS's security. Remember, this event is open to Regions 12 and 11 and to both males and females.

If you have record inspection that day, you do not need to bring the actual records.  You will only need a copy of the enrollment form, medical history form, physical form, copy of current ID card.

Everyone will need locally arranged orders (NSCTNG 003 for cadets and NSCTNG 004 for adults) for the event, along with your records, unless your unit is having records inspection that day, and current ID cards.

We will again have the Naval Special Warfare Motivators there to encourage and motivate everyone to do the best they can.  Everyone enjoyed having them last year.  They will also be able to sign off on the SEAL PRT or EOD PRT forms, if anyone gets the numbers and is planning to try to attend one of those training's this year.

Attached, please find the information sheet and sign up roster for the event.  If anyone has any questions, please email (SeaCadetsCCD@aol.com) or call me at (805) 481-7687.

Looking forward to another exciting year.

Ernst and Orlando to Attend CMA

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT...

PO1 Wyatt Ernst and PO2 Tommy Orlando have been accepted to the California Maritme Academy to begin an unbelievable college career.  Not only are they the best of the best, they will become Midshipman for O'Kane and we couldn't ask for anything better than that.  These two young men are well deserving and will become excellent engineers.  For you younger cadets, all it takes is a little hard work and look what it gets you!  Congratulations to both Wyatt and Tommy and also to their mom's and dad's, both of which made a lot of their success possible.  As a parent would say, "WE ARE PROUD OF YOU" and we wish you all our best.

O'Kane Cadets Attend Training over 2007 Christmas Vacation

O'KANE CADETS ATTEND TRAINING DURING CHRISTMAS VACATION

Cadet Hernandez spent a week of her Christmas vacation training onboard the USS Hornet in JPOD Training.  When she graduated on the 30th of December 2007 she became a Petty Officer 3rd Class.  Congratulations to Cadet Hernandez.

Other O'Kane Cadets also spent time away from home in training over the Christmas vacation.  Cadets Boucher and Bates attended Recruit Training (boot camp) for two weeks at Camp San Luis Obispo.  We will all have some "fresh" stories to hear about their exciting two weeks learning how to be a Sea Cadet.  Congratulations to both of them for sticking it out, it's quite an honor to join the elite group of cadets that have already been there.  Both have been promoted to E-2T.

CPO Dave Cornes staffed JPOD on the USS Hornet and received a group hug from Alpha Company after graduation.  He must have done something right. Cadet Shannon also spent valuable Christmas vacation time at training and completed JPOD in Alameda on the Hornet.  Congratulations to Cadet Shannon for a job well done and for graduating from the leadership training.

Cadets Cornes (Tommy), Jaquith, and Prince traveled all the way to San Diego on their Christmas holiday and attended the Winter 2007 Petty Officer Leadership Academy (POLA) training.  This 8 day training kept them studying every single day.  They worked hard and were all rewarded with knowledge that is a prerequisite to make Chief.  The graduation ceremony is one of the best, ending with a marching exhibition that gives parents goose bumps.

Pictures of POLA and JPOD are located in the PHoto Album.

Annual Inspection 2007

O'KANE'S ANNUAL INSPECTION COMPLETED AT CMA

Pictures from Inspecton in the Photo Album

O'Kane completed the Annual Inspection on 13 January 2008 and did an outstanding job presenting themselves for inspection.  The cadets were immaculate and provided the audience with a look of perfection and military bearing that was well recognized.

Thank you to everyone that came and honored us with your presence, there were a lot of family and friends and we enjoyed seeing everyone of you at the ceremony

O'Kane's Cadet of the Year went to the new Chief Petty Officer Dave Cornes.  He was honored for all his hard work and leadership abilities and we are all very proud of his accomplishments.  Hooh Yaah Chief!

Leaguer of the Year went to Cadet Myles Boucher, a hard working and bright young man that is relatively new to the unit.  Myles was a NLCC Cadet in 2007 and he attended Recruit Training over the Christmas Vacation, he graduated from 'boot camp' in early January and Sea Cadet.  Congratulations Cadet Boucher for a fine job in 2007, well deserved.

LCDR Steve Nash and LT Ellen Nash spent many, many hours inspecting O'Kane which included the entire year’s worth of paper work.  They both came for the formal inspection on Sunday and gave us their day off to be part of the ceremony and we all appreciate their effort.

O'Kane Division finished with a 3.3 grade out of 4.0.  This is outstanding and not one gig for the cadets during the personnel inspection.  Thank you all for the sharp looking haircuts, the shined shoes, the clean and neat uniforms and for standing tall during the ceremony, you all were as perfect.

A special thanks to CPO Cones and LPO Jaquith for scripting the inspection.  From Cadet Abrams piping, the Chief's announcing the Officer's coming aboard and the LPO Jaquith's leadership, it was done well.

Logan Prince's Brother Luke is home from Iraq

Here's a wonderful letter from Cadet Logan Prince's mom and dad.  Thank you for sending it and give our best to Luke.  We hope to have Luke come talk to the Cadets of O'Kane soon and we can all thank him for what he's accomplished.

Hi all,

We are happy to report that we leave this Saturday to greet Luke as he is coming home once again from Iraq. He should arrive at Pendleton on Sunday so we are going the day before due to the long drive.

Larry and I would like to take this time to thank all of you for the continued thoughts, prayers and ongoing support through this last deployment. We didn't send the regular updates like in the past deployment partially due to the fact that contrary to what you hear on the news things are much improved in Iraq in comparison to when Luke was there in 04. As Luke once stated it's boring. Though his company was later sent to a hot bed of insurgency it still did not compare to the violence and fighting he witnessed during the first deployment. In comparison, the first 04 deployment resulted in several deaths of Marines in 2/5. One as early as the first week. The 07 deployment resulted in ZERO deaths for the entire unit of 2/5. Luke said the Iraqi military and Police are doing most of the work that our military once had to do all of.

I am proud to say that our son Luke as well as the majority of the Marines in 2/5 that were scheduled to get out months earlier agreed to stay on and extend in order to do another full tour. I can say without hesitation that they truly believe in what they are fighting for and if nothing else this recent tour and what they saw there was proof for them that all the hard work actually did make a difference.

No matter what your political views are or what you think of the war, please remember first and foremost that there are A LOT of very unselfish, brave, and heroic men and women that do a job like so many Veterans in the past because this is what their country asked of them. This is what they volunteered to do. That really is the bottom line. They are doing their JOB. Bless them ALL.

Thank you again. Love and Blessings,

Larry and Carrie Prince

USS Pamanito Drill 8 and 9 Sep 07

8 and 9 September's drill onboard the USS Pampanito was a total success.  Everyone enjoyed their time aboard and everyone worked hard to earn community service time this weekend.  O'Kane Cadets got to see parts of the submarine that the paying customers don't get to see.  Thank you to everyone that participated in this months drill.

LCDR Andrew Williamson Attends Drill at CMA

Drill Pictures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H9Au2JN99M

LCDR Andrew Williamson attended drill today at CMA and taught us a lot of very useful information.  He told us about the educational value of the United States Merchant Marine Academy http://www.usmma.edu/ and what we have to do to get accepted.  It sounded pretty easy but there is a lot of hard work over a lot of years to get ready to go to Merchant Marine Academy.  We saw some excellent videos, especially enjoyed the Marine Corps Drill Team.  It's hard to believe they could do all the things they do.  Did we get better with knot tying or what?  Knot tying looks easy if you have the right person teaching you how to do it.  I thought everyone did a great job tying their knots in record time.  Since Mr. Williamson has been a member of the elite Merchant Marine Academy Drill Team he spent time with us showing us how to do it right.  Looked to me like everyone in the Unit learned a great deal from Mr. Williamson and we hope he knows how much we appreciated his time today.

We want to invite him back, his knowledge is amazing and very helpful.  We'll practice what he taught us and show him how much we've improved next time he comes to visit.

2007 4th of July
The 4th of July was special for Cadets of the O'Kane Division. There were five volunteers, Dave Cornes, Tommy Cornes, Aaron Abrams, LA Bates, and Myles Boucher that handled the duty. In step and looking sharp they took the field in front of a large crowd and presented the Colors. After the Color Guard they had good seats in the shade and ate hot dogs and watched the game. There were several cell phone calls telling us we were all on TV. Guess they did a close up shot between innings which made it very exciting for the Cadets. Thank you to everyone that participated, your 4th of July efforts will be remembered for a long time.

Captain Nunneley - Skipper USS Vallejo SSBN-658
Capt Nunneley visits control room assembly from USS VALLEJO,(SSBN-658) Capt. Nunneley was first Skipper of the VALLEJO after launching in 1965. The control room assembly at the museum will have a working periscope as part of the exhibit.

The “Valley-Joe” was launched on October 23, 1965 in Mare Island, Vallejo, California and was christened by Patricia O. V. McGettegan, great-great-granddaughter of General Vallejo.

The Vallejo was placed “In Service” in October 1966, and Sea Trials were completed a month later. The ship was placed “In Commission” in December 1966 as the fortieth of the “Forty-One for Freedom” Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines.

The Vallejo, the Bolivar, and the Jackson were the last three of the original Boomers to make Deterrent Patrols. Following the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the old boats were replaced by the new Trident Submarines. The Vallejo was decommissioned on May 27, 1994 in Charleston.

April 07 Drill
The O'Kane Division stayed overnight at Coast Guard Station San Francisco and spent the day with Arkansas Division. The Coast Guard treated us very well and we thank them for our stay.

The central Coast Guard station for San Francisco occupies a prime spot on the east side of Yerba Buena Island. The buoy tender Aspen was the high light of the day when both divisions got to tour the ship.

U.S. Coast Guard's 225-foot Buoy Tender Aspen was built by Marinette Marine Corp. in 2001. It is a modern buoy tender, with advanced ship-positioning controls.

On Sunday O'Kane moved to Richmond and at 0800 met to qualify for their marksman, sharpshooter and expert ribbons. Everyone that attended the drill qualified and there were a lot of bulls-eyes on those targets that were hit dead center.

We've enjoyed an excellent gun safety training class, a class in how to sight a rifle, and we've shot at Richmond Rod & Gun Club two times this year. There are some pretty special people at Richmond Rod & Gun that have taken us under their wings. For that we are grateful.
