South Durham Little League: FAQs
Q: Should I sign my child up for the AA, AAA, or Majors division?
A: Register and pay for the division in which your child played last spring season (not previous Fall Ball). If you are new to SDLL you can register and pay for the AA division. If your child is drafted into a higher division than that for which you registered/payed, you can then pay the difference to your coach when you meet for your first practice.
Q: Why are there different prices associated with the three divisions?
A: The registration fees take into account the costs associated with field rentals and umpire fees for each division. All divisions pay for field rentals. The AA division does not use paid umpires and the Majors division plays one more game per week than does the AAA division. Hence the difference in registration fees.
Q: May I request a specific coach or teammate (e.g., for car pooling purposes) on my registration form?
A: You are more than welcome to list any preference for a coach or teammate on your registration form. The Player Agent and coaches try to honor these requests, but there are no guarantees.
Q: Does my child's age determine in which division he/she will play, or is placement based strictly on his/her performance at the Player's Evaluation?
A: Placement at the AA, AAA, or Majors level during the spring Season is based primarily on the child's performance during the Player's Evaluation, so make sure your child gets some practice time in prior to the Evaluation day. There are two exceptions to this general rule: 12 year olds are not placed in AA and 7-9 year olds are not placed in the Majors division.
Q: Do you need to keep my child's birth certificate?
A: No, a league official (usually the President or Player's Agent) simply needs to verify your child's age by examining an official raised-seal birth certificate. If you are new to SDLL and your child has not yet played on a spring team be sure to bring your child's official raised-seal birth certificate with you to the registration.
Q: Do I need to go to one of the registration sites or can I register online?
A: You may register online, but don't forget to attend one of the Player Evaluation sessions! For details to register online, see the Online Registration page.
Q: Registering online sounds like a great idea, but we're new to SDLL. Can we register online if we did not play with SDLL last spring season?
A:Yes, but it will be difficult to reimburse your registration fee if you are not in the SDLL territory and we will not be able to reimburse you for the processing fee assessed by active.com should you decide you need to cancel your registration for any reason. You will need to bring with you to Player Evaluations proof of age (raised seal birth certificate) and proof of residency.
