Fall Registration

image_name2

SDLL is offering T-ball, Machine Pitch, Cactus, Grapefruit and Juniors divisions this Fall.  The season will consist of 8-10 games (depending on division) and conclude the weekend of October 24.  Unlike Spring seasons where SDLL must adhere to strict boundaries, all players league age 5-14 are eligible to participate in the Fall.  Other differences from Spring include divisions, player distribution, no standings are kept, and no End of Season Tournaments.

League Age
Please use the following table to determine your child's league age for the Fall 2015 season:
T-ball players must be league age 5 or 6.
Machine Pitch, Cactus and Grapefruit players must be between league age 7*- 12 years old.
Juniors players must be league age 12**-14.

*6 year olds that have played 1 spring season of t-ball AND evaluate into Machine Pitch will be allowed to play Machine Pitch. If both of these requirements are not met, 6 year olds will be placed in t-ball.
**12 year olds may play Grapefruit OR Juniors in the Fall. Please be aware that Juniors play on a larger ballfield than Grapefruit. If you have a 12 year old that would like to play Juniors please email player-agent@sdll.org to make sure it is a good fit for your player.

Skills Evaluation

Players that did not play with SDLL for the Spring 2015 season AND 6 year olds that want to play Machine Pitch, must attend the skills evaluation session on Saturday, August 22 from 12pm-2pm at Hillside High School to make sure they are placed in the appropriate division.  PLEASE NOTE--T-ball players AND all players that played SDLL during the Spring 2015 season DO NOT need to evaluate!

Also all Juniors (even if you played in the Spring) must evaluate on Saturday, August 22 time TBA at Hillside High School. Practices will begin August 28, however your child may not begin until the following week depending on the division they are placed in. Games will begin the weekend of September 11.

Register Early!
We plan to keep registration open until August 20th. However, due to the fast growth of SDLL we may need to close registation early if we reach our capacity early. We will keep an eye on numbers and if we see that we are nearing that point, we will post an announcement on www.sdll.org and on our Facebook page. If we need to close regisration early, we will place all interested players on a waitlist. We highly recommend that you register early to make sure that your player gets on a team! There will be NO walk-up registations at evaluations.

The registration fee for SDLL's Fall 2015 season is $125 ($100 for t-ball). This system automatically calculates the registration fee, and you may elect to pay by credit card or by check. If online registration is closed, please contact the SDLL Player Agent at player-agent@sdll.org. You will be placed on a team if a roster spot is available, or you may be placed on a waiting list and an additional $25 late fee will apply. No refunds for Fall Registration fees will be given after the draft and your player is placed on a team. Your registration is not considered complete until payment is received.

Thank you for being part of SDLL and we look forward to seeing you and your player on the fields this Fall!

SDLL Dick's Sporting Goods Shopping Day

SDLL Parents and Players,

We are very fortunate to once again have Dick’s Sporting Goods as a South Durham Little League sponsor. Not only does Dick’s Sporting Goods support our teams and players through financial contributions and equipment donation, but Dick’s Sporting Goods is hosting a SDLL shopping day on August 22, 2015.

If you have never attended a league shopping day, it is a fantastic opportunity to load up on equipment and gear for the Fall season (and do a little holiday shopping) while saving a bunch of money. Dick’s Sporting Goods is again extending exclusive, store-wide savings for SDLL families by issuing a 20% off shopping pass for any purchase made in the store on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

For players new to the league this year, shopping day will last all day. So, feel free to stop by after evaluations. If you have not already purchased new equipment for you child, please hold off until shopping day. Your child will be just fine at evaluations with old equipment and cleats, or even tennis shoes. A copy of the shopping pass is below.  You will also receive a copy of the pass by email. Please print the shopping pass and plan to attend the SDLL Shopping Day on August 22nd. This is a great chance to save lots of money while at the same time showing Dick’s Sporting Goods that the SDLL family truly appreciates its support.

Mark your calendars for Championship Saturday and the Mayor's Cup

Dear SDLL Families,

It has been so great seeing such great, competitive baseball during this End of Season Tournament! The improvement in the players at all levels is amazing and I am so proud of the dedication and hard work that your players have shown this season. As we near the end of our spring season I want to let you know of a couple of big days we have in the next couple of weeks.

Saturday, June 13th is Championship Saturday! This is a great day to come out to Herndon and watch great baseball in the championship games of our End of Season Tournaments. Right before the Majors Championship game we will have a trophy presentation for all of our Slugfest winners.

Saturday, June 20 is Mayor's Cup! Mayor's Cup is a Durham Little League Championship where the winners of our End of Season Tournaments play the winners of Bull City Little League's Division Champions. This year we are hosting the tournament at Herndon! There will be food trucks, great baseball and we need everyone to come cheer on our SDLL teams to victory against Bull City Little League! The schedule is:

9:30am Herndon 1: SDLL A Champions vs. BCLL

9:30am Herndon 2: SDLL AA Champions vs. BCLL

12:30pm Herndon1: SDLL AAA Champions vs. BCLL

12:30pm Herndon 2: SDLL Majors Champions vs. BCLL

Even though Rookie and T-ballers aren't playing in the coveted Mayor's Cup, we would love for you all to come out and join in an awesome day, celebrating our SDLL community!

Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you all at these 2 amazing Saturday events! Take care. --Jill

Bulls Tickets at Opening Ceremonies

Tomorrow at Opening Ceremonies you will be able to buy Bull's ticket vouchers!  This is a great way to support SDLL and save some money while you cheer on the Bulls!  The vouchers are $10 (this is cheaper than than buying tickets at the box office!) and you can buy as many vouchers as you would like!  SDLL gets to keep $5 per ticket, so it is a great way for us to raise money and for you to enjoy a Bulls game!  The vouchers can be used for any Sunday-Thursday regular season home game based on ticket availability.  You just take the vouchers to the box office to trade them in for tickets!  They are good for seats in the Terrace View Section (209-218) or Outfield Reserved Section (128-134).

We will be able to accept cash or checks (made out to SDLL) tomorrow, so be sure to come prepared to get your tickets for the season!  There will be a table with a sign for Bulls Tickets tomorrow at Hillside.  Thank you so much for your support of SDLL!  --Jill

Save the Date! Slugfest is Saturday May, 2nd

The day you have been waiting for is rapidly approaching! We hope you are as excited for this year's SDLL Slugfest as we are! Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2 at Herndon Park. It is a fun day of baseball, family, friends, and food!

Slugfest is our annual fundraiser and all SDLL players are asked to participate. SDLL is committed to keeping our operating costs as low as possible while still providing both ongoing field improvements and quality baseball equipment. All money collected from Slugfest goes directly towards these goals. We need your help to make this our most successful Slugfest ever! Each player is being asked to raise money for this event.

The number of swings your player receives the day of Slugfest depends on the amount of money he/she collects. There will be a maximum of 12 swings per player for those who collect $125 or more. We ask that each player set a goal of collecting $125, but donations of any amounts are welcome! We are really hoping for 100% participation from every team! Your team will be assigned a specific time to meet us on the fields and hit balls to earn points. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place "slugger" in each division. This week your team parent will distribute your player's Slugfest envelope. Printed on the envelope is a bullet point explanation in case your player needs help explaining the event to family and friends. All donations are tax-deductible and should be collected and kept in the envelope. Players should record donations on the outside of the envelope.

All teams with 100% player participation will win a Popsicle party to enjoy after a practice or game. Additionally, every team that raises at least $1,000 will win a free pizza party! The day of Slugfest we will have food and drinks for players and their families. There will be giveaways and drawings for gift cards and other prizes, so start collecting your donations. Envelopes will be collected in a few weeks. Going to be out of town? Have another commitment? You can still raise money and help your team get 100% participation! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail your Slugfest Coordinators: Jennifer and Lawrence Kahn (lkahn1@nc.rr.com), Erica Caveney (erica.caveney@quintiles.com), or Shana Davis-Riley (sriley3267@gmail.com).

I.T.S. Baseball Discounted Evaluations

SDLL Sponsor I.T.S. Baseball will once again be offering discounts for hitting, pitching and catching evaluations and arm care instruction sessions. Each one will only cost $40 for SDLL players - evaluations are usually $60 and arm care sessions are $50, so this is a great value. In addition, I.T.S. will donate $10 for every session completed, and an extra $100 for every 10 sessions, back to SDLL!  This is a great way to support one of our terrific sponsors and our league at the same time.

See this flyer for more details.
