SDFFL: COMMISH

WELCOME!
commish

Born and Raised in San Diego I was fortunate to have been introduced to sports at a young age. My dad bought me a Charger Season ticket for the first season in 1961 at Balboa Stadium where San Diego High and City College play today. My Family as also been a Padre season ticket holder since the first game at Jack Murphy Stadium in 1969. I still have season tickets for both teams.

Having the athletic genes, I played any /every sport 7/24. Baseball was the Sport of choice and passion and I challenged anyone that was older than me to strike me out. Playing at Crawford High School and Mesa College I was given a scholarship to attend San Diego State and was fortunate enough to play on one of the most talented teams in my career, including playing in the same outfield with Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.

My dream of being a professional Baseball player came reality when I signed a contract in my Senior year by who else: The San Diego Padres. I played well enough to reach The Las Vegas Stars - Triple AAA team for the padres at the time - Oh so close. Man, what a privalage to have been a part of the Padre organization in 1984 when they went to their first World Series(got their ass kicked by the Tigers) and competed against the likes of players of the time like Tony, Mark MacGuire, Jose Canseco, Darrell Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Lenny Dykstra, Wiil Clark...

After the Baseball Career I went back to SDSU and completed my education in the field of Recreation Administration. Currently, I have reached my 17th year as a Recreation Supervisor for San Diego Park and Recreation. I have organized recreation programs, activites and sports leagues for youth and adults in Communities of Montgomery Waller, Paradise Hills, City Heights, Tierrasanta and Ocean Beach and Carmel Valley. I have organized everything from marble tournaments to Reigional Track meets.

In 1991 as a recreation Leader at Robb Field, former SDFFL league Director Kurt Vosely asked me to take over the league. Now in my 19th year and 38th season as the "Commish" I have thoroughly enjoyed my time running the league. I have met a lifetime of friends and colleagues (Some who are no longer with us but will always be remembered) and every season I am amazed at the commaraderie that this league brings out in all of you and the kid in me that still wants to compete! (Hey! Steve Lyon, Dave Riley, Doug Berg; Keep it going!)

Although I have made some difficult decisions to ensure the success and continuation of the league, your support of those decisions has been very appreciative and I will make every effort to continue this valued recreational adult sports program.

PLAY HARD, PLAY SAFE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN!

Kevin Wiggins - League Director
