2013 is now upon us. The coaches of SC Southern Crosse and the players have been busy. Many of us are actively involved with high school lacrosse programs, and a vast majority of our players also come from midlands area high school programs. Our own Coach Bikowski is now in her second season with Newberry College. We wish them a successful season as she continues to build her program at Newberry as a NCAA Division II team.
A lot of behind the scene work is being done to hopefully have another successful year of club lacrosse. We had the benefit of sending some of our girls to Coach Sasha Vedok, who ran four clincs in January both for beginners and advanced players at Columbia College . Coach Vedok is the newly announced women's coach for Columbia College Women's Lacrosse team. She is currently recruiting for a start during the fall of 2013.
Registation can be done online at our Player Registration 2013 tab or click here.
The club season this year is being broken up into 3 sessions. This is to better help parents and players plan for tournaments, costs, and family events. This year each session will cost $250/session, we are discounting registration for multiple sessions; $450 for two sessin and $650 for all three sessions. We are actively working on 2-3 tournaments per session not included games we may schedule with in- state clubs. Tournament, game, transportation and housing cost are extra. The vast majority of our cosst are tied up in operational costs such as field rentals and/or officals for events we host.
Lastly, starting this month player will be selling discount cards for a fund-raiser. The actual fund-raising campaign is scheduled to start April 1st and run for three weeks. Each card is $20, it has 20 differrent businesses on the back. The businesses are lcoal establishments in the Sandhills, Forest Acres, and Harbison areas. The discounts are good once a day for 13 months.
At the same time we are conducting a contest for the player who sells the most cards.
1st Place : STX Exult 10º complete stick
2nd Place : a $50 gift card to Academy Sports & Outdoors
3rd Place : Pair of Adrenalin Socks
This is an extremely good fundraisier. We as an organization have the potential to raise $6000 dollars if we sell all of the cards. This means not only can we sponsor some players who may otherwise not be able to play club lacrosse but will also help reduce some of the cost for tournaments etc....
On top of this we also want to recognize Academy Sports & Outdoors for their corporate sponsorship of SC Southern Crosse. Along with the monetary sponsorship, they have agreed to host all of our registration days. This includes the Weekly flyer announcement in the Sunday Newspaper , and in store advertising the week preceeding registration.
SC Southern Crosse would like to thank all of our parents, players and sponsor for a successful innaugural season. We were able to provide some good exposure at regional touornaments for these girls. Some of our girls may never get a college recruiter to observe them play if it wasnt for a local club team. Many of our schools in the Midlands are still without high school level lacrosse for girls.
We look forward to seeing everyone this year at local clinics and during the club season. Good luck to all of our coaches and players as you compete during htis springs high school and college lacrosse seasons.
Coach G.
SC Southern Crosse is a lacrosse club team right here in the midlands. We are a family oriented team, with strong philosophy of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Southern Crosse will use lacrosse as a method to develop healthy, happy, confident, and well-rounded players in the midlands area and empower them to become better citizens through the lessons of sports including teamwork, pride, ownership, self-discipline, healthy competition and above all how to have fun through good sportsmanship.
We understand that to many Midlands players have to travel upstate, Charleston, or to the Charlotte area to participate in club lacrosse. This causes a significant time commitment and financial burden on families here in the Midlands. We feel that this is the time to keep the midlands girls right here in Columbia and grow as a sport.
Our Players ages will range from 9-18. Our goal is to offer both an eltie team and developmental team at the U9 - U19 , and Elite levels. Currently we still have many openings. The season will run from mid April unitl late December. This will allow players to keep their stick in their hands during the off season until the start of the fall ball season in November.
