St. Catharines Ringette Association: Volunteer/Committees
Volunteer Today!
The St. Catharines Ringette Association (SCRA) is a non-profit sports organization, run by unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to providing an opportunity for girls and young women to participate and compete in the ice sport of Ringette, at whatever level their talents will allow.
WHY VOLUNTEER … Without volunteers, the SCRA would not exist. The success of our organization is dependant on volunteers who devote their time to provide a positive, fun environment for our children. Consider volunteering your time to help improve our Association and the experience of our players. There is always plenty of work to do and the rewards are shown every season when players take to the ice. Make your child’s RINGETTE experience a positive one … get involved !!!
HOW CAN I HELP … Parents, relatives, friends and older ringette players are urged to donate a few hours of volunteer time each month or each quarter. Players, friends and relatives who are in high school can apply volunteer time against high school graduation requirements. There are many ways to help.
SCRA Executive Participate in a leadership role on our SCRA Executive. Elections are held for Executive positions at the Annual General Meeting. SCRA Executive are required to attend Meetings once per month. Executive members will typically commit a few additional hours of personal time each month dependant upon duties required.
Apply to Coach Coaching is a great way to be involved. SCRA teams are coached by qualified volunteers. Training to attain qualifications is funded by the SCRA. Coaching applications are received each spring for the coming season. Head Coach duties include selecting a coaching staff, creating a business plan/team budget, and organizing tournaments for the team.
Referee / Officiate Games Officiating is a great way for players who enjoy ringette to get more ice time, be involved in the sport in a new way, and give something back to the game. To certify as an on-ice official, one must attend a certification course and pass a test. Basic certification can be obtained in one weekend, after which a referee will be qualified to officiate younger players. To advance in certification to officiate higher levels of competition, the referee is evaluated on the ice during games. In addition to getting healthy exercise, it’s fun, and REFEREES ARE PAID for each game they officiate. SCRA is eager to certify more players as referees.
Timekeepers / Scorekeepers A great way for players to earn extra pocket money. You must be responsible, mature and between the ages of 11 and 14. Timekeepers and scorekeepers are required for all home games. Training is provided by the SCRA Director of Minor Officials.
Ticket Sales - Tournament Time. The profits from our Tournament Tickets are turned back to the program to help keep our fees low, buy uniforms, goalie equipment, rings, pay for ice, game officials and certify new coaches.
