14U Division (7th, 8th and 9th graders):

Very simply, this division (and the fall league in general) was designed to prepare 7th, 8th and 9th grade girls for middle school and high school team tryouts. Middle school tryouts begin mid October.  Our 14U division plays straight ASA rules.

This league will have four weeknight doubleheaders and one Saturday doubleheader game. Several girls also participate in Arcadia Soccer, and no games will conflict with Arcadia Recreational Soccer League, which begins their games late September.  Three of the five doubleheaders will be concluded prior to
Arcadia
soccer beginning their season.

12U Division  (5th graders, and 6th graders):

This division plays with a 12" hard ball from 40'. Straight ASA rules are followed for 12U. If your daughter is interested in getting some additional experience in an instructional environment this is the division for her. If your daughter is entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall and looking to prepare for Juniors and Minors spring leagues in SMS, this is also the division for her.

  10U Division (4th graders ONLY):

This division plays with an 11" hard ball with the girls pitching from 35'.  There is no "coach pitch" as there is with this age during our spring season.  Straight ASA rules apply for the 10U division.  If your daughter is interested in getting some additional experience in an instructional environment  this is the division for her.   If your daughter is entering 4th and looking to prepare for SMS's Rookie spring league, this is the division for her.

Here's some general information about the Fall 2010 League:

General Info & Frequently Asked Questions:

When does the fall league season run? There are 5 weeknight or Saturday doubleheader games  for 12U and 14U and 10 single weeknight or Saturday games for 10U running approximately 9/6/10 thru 10/9/10

What ages can play in the Fall league?
All girls entering grades 4th thru 9th,: comprising three divisions 10U, 12U and 14U (see full description above).

Which Division should I register my daughter in? See description of each of the divisions above.

Can I register as a team? Yes.

What is different about the fall league? This is an instructional season designed to prepare the 14U girls for Middle School and High School team tryouts that begin the week after the fall league concludes.  Additionally, it is designed to give other girls an opportunity to further develop their skills.  There are five doubleheader games with a 1:15 drop dead time and 15 minute intermission.  Games do not interfere with Arcadia Soccer.

Can I request friends, coaches or a particular team?
You may request all of the above on the registration form, and we will do our best to accommodate all requests, although we cannot guarantee placement. If your child cannot be placed on a specified team, we do try to place them by school or area for convenience, provided we have enough coaches.

General Info & Frequently Asked Questions:

When does the fall league season run? There are 5 weeknight or Saturday doubleheader games  for 12U and 14U and 10 single weeknight or Saturday games for 10U running approximately 9/6/10 thru 10/9/10

How often do they practice?  This is entirely up to the coach. During the month of August, many coaches will practice 2 times a week. Once the game season begins, some will continue two practices plus games a week, but many will hold one practice and have the team come early before a game to practice and warm up.

How many games are there in a week?  One doubleheader game per week for 12U and 14U divsions, 2 single games/week for 10U division.  Each game follows an hour and fifteen minute (1:15) drop dead rule, providing a 15 minute intermission before the second game for 12U and 14U teams.

What about uniforms?   The Fall registration fee includes a team jersey.

Where are the games played? Games are played at various fields throughout Scottsdale.

What does my registration fee cover?
Uniforms, umpires and field prep.  Player insurance is also a requirement. If your daughter played in SMS during the spring of 2010, her ASA insurance was included in Spring 2010 registration fees and it runs through the calendar year 2010.  If she is new to the League for 2010, you will need to add $15 onto your registration to cover this insurance.

Do you need coaches? Yes! Let us know if you have an interest in coaching a team.  There is a section on the registration form to indicate interest.  Further, e-mail us if you have any questions about being a coach.

What if I have never coached before?
Relax, that's how many parents first get involved! If you have a heart for kids, enjoy the sport and want to see kids have a positive team experience, you can coach.  SMS provides a coaching clinic where you meet by divisions and are led by experienced personnel.  In addition, there is an assigned Coordinator for each division to help you through the season. Contact information for your division coordinator can be found by visiting the "Board" section of our website. We suggest utilizing many parents of the girls on your team to help run stations, be the team parent, help keep score, etc. SMS is run entirely by volunteers - your help as a coach, assistant coach, etc. is greatly appreciated.

What equipment is necessary?
Each player is required to have their own helmet, complete with chinstrap mouth guard and facemask.

What if I have additional questions?
Additional questions can be sent to us by e-mail to Scottsdale Miss Softball at
Softball85260@hotmail.com.
