Scorepedoes Win the Virginia Rush Memorial Day Soccerfest 2007
The Scorepedoes played in the Virginia Rush Memorial Day Soccerfest this weekend and won the tournament. We played F.C. Horsham from the Inter-County League (Elite Division) in Pennsylvania in the first game and won 1-0. On a brutally hot afternoon we played Tri-Cities United from the greater Richmond area and won 2-0. On Sunday we played F.C. Rheems, an independent team from Pennsylvania that had not lost in over 20 games. We won that game 2-1. The games were dominated by our defense which is playing extremely well right now. Our goal keepers are not having to face alot of shots which is great. The shutouts in our first 2 games ran our string of shutouts to 4 consecutive games and we have only allowed 2 goals in our last 6 games. Our offense is creating many quality scoring opportunities but is still having trouble converting those opportunities into goals. As we play together more now that high school soccer is over that will be less of a problem.

One of the reasons we went to Virginia Beach was for a little team building with so many new players added over the last two seasons. All the players had a good time and got to know each other better. One of the off-field highlights occurred near midnight on Sunday as a call was put out to help with a stuck elevator. No surprise as to why it stuck though. If you've ever been to the circus and watched the endless stream of clowns exit the midget sports car, then you know what it looked like as the entire team exited this small elevator. Good weather, good soccer and good camaraderie - all the ingredients for a successful trip!"

Scorepedoes are Runners-up in Tampa Bay Sun Bowl

The Scorepedoes had a fantastic run in their first-ever appearance in the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl, a college show-case tournament, finishing in second place overall. The Scorepedoes emerged from their Group C pool advancing to the playoffs with just one loss. In the Quarter Final, the Scorepedoes faced a terrific Florida team that would not surrender. Goals by Brendon Connor and Alex Cavanagh were just enough to surpass their formidable opponent. The Semi Final game was a rematch of the the Scorepedoes only loss in Group C. Making up for their previously flat performance against the talented New York team, the Scorepedoes fought tenaciously throughout the match to end the zero-zero stalemate. The victory was sealed near the end of the second-half when Brendon Connor sent a curving ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. Hours later, the Championship game produced a very talented Kentucky team that started scoring quickly and often. The Scorepedoes struggled to get back in the match and found some relief when Parker Koppelman converted a PK opportunity for the Scorepedoes' only score of the game. Even though the Scorepedoes lost the Championship game, they gained valuable tournament experience and added confidence for the future.
