Inferno Perform Well At State Cup
In their first attempt to compete at the Class 1 Level the Inferno just missed qualifying for the round of 16 at State Cup. They amassed 5 points with a win and two draws, holding their opposition scoreless in all 3 matches and posting a 2-0 win in their first match. On Sunday morning they battled Group winner Novato Spirit to a 0-0 draw and had several quality scoring opportunities, any of which would have moved them on to the next round. The girls played through nagging injuries and fatigue holding the Windsor Kickkats scoreless in the afternoon match but were eliminated when Novato smashed the CA Odyssey White. Thanks to all the girls for a superior effort this weekend and throughout the Fall 2003 Season. We are very proud of their progress.
Third Place Finish in Redwood League
At or near the top of the standings all season the Inferno finished with a record of 7-1-3. They were seconds and inches away from a better fate. The dissappointment of one sloppy and slippery November weekend brought the girls together as a team and propelled them on to fantastic finishes on the following two weekends. We are all proud of their accomplishments this season and look forward to a bright future.
Fifth 2003 Campionship Match in Morgan Hill
A battered and bruised Inferno Team gamely reached the finals in the South San Jose Thanksgiving Classic. Scoring every goal this weekend in the second half of their games showed their superior conditioning and dogged determination. Needing to win Sunday morning to advance to the finals after a win and a tie on Saturday, they jumped out ahead of hosts South San Jose Power 2-0 and calmly held off their challenge. The final was against Four time tournamnet winner Northwest Oaks Thunder from Santa Rosa. After giving up an early goal on an a bomb from the outside the Inferno took control of the match and tied the score midway through half number two. Both teams strained to gain the advantage with NWO scoring on a breakaway near the end to take the title. A superior effort by the undermanned Inferno squad.
INFERNO REACH DISTRICT CUP FINALS
Exorcising several demons along the way the Inferno were rock solid in winning Group E of the Blue Division. Warming up (literally) with a 2-0 win over the Screaming Nightmares, they qualified for the semifinals with a 1-0 victory over long time rivals and hosts, West Valley Divas. The battle to reach the Championship match was played on a frosty Sunday morning vs Mount Hamilton Rayz. This was a tough physical match that ended 0-0, where the Inferno won their first shootout by burying their first 4 attempts. One last hill remained to be climbed and Juventus Destiny stood in the way. A classic championship went 60 minutes without a winner. Despite a Golden Goal by Destiny in the first OT the Inferno players left the field with their heads held high, proud of the accomplishments of the weekend.
Inferno Win Consolation Match in San Ramon
A great time was had by all in San Ramon despite finishing second in their group to the Dublin Fighters. A 1-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon was filled with quirky bounces and decisions that can affect a close match. The players bounced back with two fine efforts on Sunday to collect the 3rd Place Trophy. Overall the girls outscored their opponents 14-3. Thanks to all who helped arrange the fun Pool-side Dinner on Saturday Night!!
Inferno Reach 3rd Straight Championship Match
The Inferno and the Rocklin Blue Angels played a titanic championship match in the 2003 Benicia Fall Classic. The Inferno drew first blood in half number one and held the lead until midway through half number two when the Angels scored the equalizer. Both teams battled through 2 ot's before lining up for a shootout. Both keepers were awesome with the Blue Angels winning the match in Round 6, 4-3.Inferno qualified for the finals by winning their group, posting two shutouts and giving up a loan goal in the other match. They outscored their opponents 11-2 for the weekend, a fine effort.
Inferno Bring Home Silver Rotary Cup
The Inferno played another fine weekend of soccer in Santa Clara going 3-0 in their group to qualify for the Championship game vs Juventus Destiny. After giving up two early goals the girls fought back with one of their own before half time. They kept the pressure on for the full 50 minutes but could not get the equalizer despite many near misses. The Inferno is poised to have a fine league season and look forward to our October 12th rematch with Juventus.
2nd Place @ Newark Referee Classic
The Inferno lost a hard fought Championship Match vs the West Valley Divas on Sunday afternoon. They held the high scoring Divas to a lone goal but were unable to put any past the Divas' solid defense. The girls earned the right to be in this match with 2 brilliant 4-0 wins on Saturday and a 1-1 draw on Sunday morning that secured their spot in the finals. We look to gain a rematch next weekend against either the Divas or Destiny, both of whom are entered in Santa Clara.
2003 Pacifica United Coast Cup-Third Place
The Inferno played superbly in their first Fall Tournament. Saturday started with a convincing 4-0 win over the Los Gatos Rowdies. The afternoon match was against a quality team from Lamorinda where the game was much closer than a 1-3 result would indicate. Finishing 2nd in our group set up a semifinal match vs Juventus Destiny. These two teams battled to a scoreless draw and settled the match in round 8 of a shootout with Destiny going on to lose to Lamorinda in the finals. The Inferno won the consolation match by beating the Newark Jaguars 6-2.
STANFORD CUP 4v4 TOURNAMENT
The following players signed up to play:
Morgan B., Brittney, Morgan E.,Lauren, Sharon, Dana and Kristi. This event was held on the Stanford Campus @ Maloney Field on Sunday May 5 from 8AM-4PM. The field is on El Camino Real just South of Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.
Congratulations to the girls on earning the first seed after the morning round. They outscored their opponents 11-3. Fatigue set in during the afternoon round, but a fun time was had by all.
INFERNO PLAY WELL IN FIRST TOURNAMENT
A hard fought 1-1 tie vs finalists, Pleasanton Flash, gave the Inferno 4 points in the Hot August San Carlos Tournament U12 Division. The players battled hard in losing 0-1 and 0-2 to the Almaden Hot Shots and MAJIK Soccer Club, respectively. This being our first tournament together and considering that we were playing up one age group, these were good results.
INFERNO WINS SILICON VALLEY ROTARY CUP
Playing in their first U11 tournament the Inferno amassed a 4-0 record and brought home the Rotary Cup. The highlights included a dominating 3-0 Sunday morning victory over group leader South San Jose Power, and a thrilling 2-1 victory in the finals over the Orchard Valley Tornadoes. Both of these opponents had previous CYSA experience which speaks well of the rapid progress our girls are making. Please check the complete results of the tournament on the 'Standings' link.
Rotary Cup Winners Invited to Buck Shaw Stadium
The Santa Clara Lady Broncos have invited all Rotary Cup award winners to be recognized on the field at half time of their season opener on August 30th vs the Stanford Cardinal. The game begins at 7:30 PM.
INFERNO TAKES 4th AT TOM RADESIC MEMORIAL
A 1-1-1 record in pool play earned the Inferno the 3rd seed and a berth in the Consolation Final of the U12 division. A hard fought and well played 0-0 game vs the SSJ Wildcats forced an afternoon rematch. Under scortching conditions both teams played another 43 scoreless minutes before the Wildcats broke through for two quick goals to take the trophy. The girls are progressing nicely and we look forward to a successful League season.
Inferno Outing to Marine World
We now have over 20 people joing us for an afternoon trip to Marine World following our second game of the Benicia Fall Classic on Saturday, September 29. The group rate is only $18.99 and more tickets can be purchased that day. The park closes at 8PM and the animal shows finish at 6PM.
INFERNO BRING HOME ANOTHER AWARD
Playing their best soccer to date, the young Inferno placed second in their group and lost a thrilling shootout in the Consolation Final of the Benicia Fall Classic. After being good guests and losing to the host team early Saturday morning, the girls notched their first two victories over U12 teams, beating the Tiberon Bobcats and the Petaluma Spirit. They proceeded to pressure the Santa Rosa Annadel Tenacity for 80 minutes in the final game of the day before coming up just short in the shootout. Please check the 'Schedules' link for scores and details. Great job Girls!!!
InfernoTravel to Menlo Park in Style
Thanks to John for arranging two limousines to transport the players to Menlo Park for the game vs Mid Peninsula Stikers. What a fun way to start off a Sunday morning and thanks to the Gibbs for hosting a pancake breakfast following the game. By the way the 2-1 victory was fun as well.
INFERNO CLAIM THIRD PLACE IN REDWOOD LEAGUE
With a 6-1-3 record The Inferno acheived a 3rd place finish in their first Redwood Junior League season. After losing their opener 1-0 on a PK they never again tasted defeat. The stingy Inferno defense posted 6 clean sheets and never gave up more than 1 goal in a game. They led the league in goals allowed with only 4. Their strong passing game and improving attack bode well for the future. Congratulations girls on a superior league season.
District II Cup-Salinas
The Inferno finished second in their group with a 1-1 record, losing a heartbreaker to the OV Tornadoes on a goal with 4 minutes left in their match, and winning 3-0 vs the SCC Sparks in the afternoon game. This set up a second place match vs West Valley that was scoreless through overtime and went to a shootout. The Divas made 3 to our 2. Small fields and erratic field conditions made this a very defensive tournament for all quality teams. High fives to all of our players for giving their maximum effort.
INFERNO 'DITTO' in WINTER INDOOR
The Inferno completed Session 1 of Winter Indoor Soccer at Off the Wall Soccer in Santa Clara with a 5-2-1 record. This was good enough to take 2nd place behind SC Sporting, a Class 1 U12 team. In Session II we compiled the same record, 5-2-1, which was good enough for 3rd place. With smaller rosters and new players this was a fine achievment. Our losses were to Santa Clara Flash, U11 Class 1, and our old friends the WV Divas. Both games were tight and could have gone either way. You may track our progress by clicking on the 'Record' Link and selecting the Indoor seasons. Congratulations to the players on a fine effort. Their skills have improved greatly.
Final Spring Results Posted
The Inferno finished the spring season with a 4-1-4 record which placed us fourth in the D2 U11B Division. We achieved our goal of improving our attack through better ball skills. The spring was highlighted by one super 3-0 win vs Belmont and our only loss was 3-0 to WV Divas. We can anticipate a teriffic Fall season with our new player additions and a full roster.

Inferno Earn Respect in Class 1 Debut
The Inferno learned many valuable lessons in their innaugural season of Class 1 play. They achieved 4th place in Division 2 of the Abronzino League with a 4-4-2 record. Many of the girls also followed up their Fall outdoor campaign with a successful Indoor Session at Off the Wall Soccer. They recorded a 5-2-1 record earning them a second place finish in a very competitive division which included 3 Teams from Fall Divsion 1. Great job girls. Let's keep up the momentum as we enter Spring Season.
