CIF PLAYOFFS ROUNDUP
MAY 24TH: Lost to #1 Santana 2-1 in 8 innings. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the 6th inning but couldn't hold it as the Sultans made a great push bunt to manufacture a run and went on to win in the 8th on a sacrifice fly. Since losing badly to Granite Hills last month the girls have played really well, competing evenly with top ten programs that in years past would have been blowouts. Even with the loss of 6 seniors the future looks bright for Steele Canyon.
MAY 21ST: Beat Madison 4-1 to advance to the next round of the CIF Division III playoffs. Samantha Beasley (10-9, 14 K's, 1 BB) carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning, Jayme Jarvis drove in 2 runs (should have been 4 on a missed 3-run homerun call), Christine Barrios & Erika Beasley grabbed 2 hits, and Jessica Summers scored twice. The girls placed 3 great bunts, including Amanda Jones' perfect squeeze bunt to plate the 4th run. In a hostile environment and extremely hot day the Cougars notched their 1st ever CIF playoff win. Next up is a shot at revenge against #1 Santana on Tuesday.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
The Cougars Varsity squad made great strides this season, setting many team records - most wins (14), most league wins (3), best winning percentage (.519), most no-hitters (2), best fielding percentage (.936). The girls also beat their 1st ranked opponent (West Hills), beat the defending Grossmont North league champion (Grossmont), and made it to their 1st tournament championship game (Grossmont North/South tournament, going 4-1 in pool play). However - their biggest accomplishment was not only making it to the CIF play-offs for the 1st time, but winning a game and pushing the #1 seed (Santana) to 8 innings. Way to go, ladies!!!

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Game #1 - SCHS 17, San Ysidro 0 (1-0)
This game was never in doubt as the Cougars scored 6 runs in the 2nd and 10 in the 4th. Samantha & Erika Beasley combined on a no-hitter.
Game #2 - SCHS 3, Chula Vista 0 (2-0)
Samantha Beasley was perfect through 5 innings and Danielle Davisson doubled in the only run they'd need in the 2nd.
Game #3 - SCHS 7, Kearny 1 (3-0)
Danielle Davisson through a 1-hitter and tripled while 7 different Cougars scored.
Game #4 - SCHS 12, Bishops 0 (4-0)
The 1st 4 Cougars score & Jayme Jarvis drives in 4 to move the team to 4-0. Erika Beasley allows 2 hits.
Game #5 - SCHS 11, Kearny 0 (5-0)
Amanda Jones & Erika Beasley combine on a 1-hitter and Danielle Davisson drives in 5 to blowout Kearny.
Game #6 - SCHS 4, La Jolla 3 (6-0)
Jayme Jarvis hits her 2nd homerun of the season and Danielle Davisson's sacrifice fly in the 7th wins it for the Cougars, beating their 2nd CIF playoff team of the season.
Game #7 - Coronado 7, SCHS 5 (6-1)
1st loss of the season. The girls made too many mistakes, but nearly won it in the 6th with back-to-back-to-back triples.
Game #8 - SCHS 4, El Capitan 0 (7-1)
Alexandra Young's 2-run, 2-out triple gives Samantha Beasley (1-hitter) all the runs she'd need to cruise over El Cap.
Game #9 - SCHS 2, West Hills 1 (8-1)
Amanda Jones drives in the winning run in the 9th to beat a top-ten school and another CIF playoff team. Jayme Jarvis ties the game with 2 outs in the 7th with a single and Amy Antoine gets 3 hits and scores twice.
Game #10 - Santana 2, SCHS 1 (8-2)
An errant throw on a bunt cost the Cougars the game in the 10th, a game they were winning until the bottom of the 7th. The 3rd inning will come back to bite them - bases loaded, no outs, and can't score.
Game #11 - SCHS 2, Grossmont 1 (9-2)
After pitching great for 4 innings Danielle Davisson won it in the 6th with a homerun. Samantha Beasley was perfect the last 3 innings.
Game #12 - SCHS 14, El Cajon 4 (10-2)
The 1st 7 Cougars score in the 1st and never look back, pounding the Braves. Every starter scores at least 1 run, with Jessica Summers scoring 3 times with 3 hits.
Game #13 - Santana 7, SCHS 0 (10-3)
3 costly errors and only 2 hits spells disaster as the Sultans blow out the Cougars in the Grossmont North/South tournament championship.
Game #14 - Valhalla 5, SCHS 0 (10-4)
The bats are silent again (5 hits) and 6 Cougars errors chalk up an easy win for the Norsemen.
Game #15 - Monte Vista 5, SCHS 1 (10-5)
The Cougars lose their 3rd straight, giving away a game to Monte Vista.
Game #16 - Patrick Henry 6, SCHS 0 (10-6)
Donna Kerr drops 18 K's on the Cougars and the Patriots cruise to victory. The Cougars only hit 1 ball fair the entire game (excluding bunts).
Game #17 - Patrick Henry 7, SCHS 2 (10-7)
Still smarting from the previous game the Cougars defense melts down in the 3rd, contributing to 5 runs. 11 more K's for the #2 Patriots pitcher.
Game #18 - Granite Hills 20, SCHS 7 (10-8)
The losing streak reaches 6 games as the dazed Cougars get pounded by the Eagles. The only highlight was Samantha Beasley going 4-5, reaching base 5 times.
Game #19 - SCHS 5, Mount Miguel 4 (11-8)
Samantha Beasley drives in 4 and Jessica Summers grabs 3 hits as the Cougars finally end their long losing streak.
Game #20 - SCHS 4, Helix 1 (12-8)
After giving up a leadoff homer Samantha Beasley shuts down the Highlanders, striking out 14. The Cougars score 4 times in the 3rd to cement the win.
Game #21 - Valhalla 3, SCHS 1 (12-9)
Came close but couldn't get any breaks as the Norsmen went on to win 3-1. The Cougars loaded the bases with no outs after scoring but lost a run on a controversial call at 1st base.
Game #22 - Monte Vista 4, SCHS 3 (12-10)
A game they clearly should have won, but errors and tons of runners left on base were too much to overcome.
Game #23 - Granite Hills 3, SCHS 1 (12-11)
Both pitchers dominated (4 hits for each team), but only the Eagles were able to mount any offense. Christine Barrios goes 3-3 but the rest manage only 1 hit.
Game #24 - SCHS 6, Mount Miguel 0 (13-11)
Probably the most complete win of the season. Samantha Beasley & Amanda Jones combine on a no-hitter and 4 girls grab at least 2 hits as the Cougars roll to victory.
Game #25 - Helix 1, SCHS 0 (13-12)
Another great pitcher's duel that ends on a double in the bottom of the 9th. As against Valhalla the Cougars lose a run on a missed call at 1st base.
Game #26 - SCHS 4, Madison 1 (14-12)
The 1st-ever CIF playoff game is a win, powered by Samantha Beasley's 2-hitter and Jayme Jarvis's 2 RBI.
Game #27 - Santana 2, SCHS 1 (14-13)
The Cougars held a 1-0 lead until the 6th when the Sultans pushed across the tying run, then won it in the 8th on a sacrifice fly. Another great game in Santee that was just short of a win.

---> JR VARSITY <--- 13-10-2 (overall), 7-3 (league)
MAY 19TH: Beat Helix 5-2 on Wednesday. The JV finished strong winning 7 of the last 8 games to complete conference play at 7-3. Sabrina Padillo went 3-3, 1RS, 1SB, Brook Boehmke went 2-3 1RS, 1RBI, Alexis Chisolm went 2-3 1 2B. Micaela Smith got hit hard giving up 11 hits but was able to bare down, make some good pitches and strand 9 runners to get the win.
---> FRESHMAN <--- 9-8-1
MAY 5TH: Finished the season with a tie against Grossmont
