Haase Retires
Dan Haase, a key free agent pick up who made huge contibutions to the Weasels 2005 playoff run, retired citing personal reasons for his decision. In a brief statement, Haase said, "I've got a lot going on and I just can't make the time. But I will definitely be out a couple of times to cheer the guys on."

Haase, signed away from the Pirates before the 2004 season, had a disappointed first campaign with the team, clearly trying to do too much. But in his second year he put up solid numbers, batting .353 with a homerun and 12 RBI's. The team would like to wish Dan the best of luck and also give a reminder that "Once a Weasel, always a Weasel".

Weasels 8th inning rally burns Sun Devils
Part of the reason for the Weasels success in 2005 was their propensity for late inning rallies. Opening day of 2006 was no different as the Weasels scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 9-8 victory over the Sun Devils at Rolling Meadows.

The Weasels sent Mike Lundy to the mound to open the season and it was evident early that he did not have his best stuff as he gave up two early first inning runs. The Weasels tied it up in their half of the first on a 2 run throwing error by the catcher. From then on, the Sun Devils nickel and dimed the Weasels and carried an 8-4 lead into the bottom of the eight inning.

Tate Keiffer led off the eighth inning against Devils reliever Zach Lovett by reaching on an error. Lovett then walked Butch Buttjer and Jim Tillotson to load the bases and then hit Dave Walden with a pitch to force in a run and make it a 3-run defecit. The Sun Devils then brought in former ace Eric Page to try and stop the bleeding. But after striking out Dan Morgan, Page gave up an RBI single to Rick Hunt and a run scoring fielder's choice to Mike Sopocy to pull the Weasels to within one run. When Sopocy fell for the old "fake to third, throw to first" pick-off, Walden scored the tying run when the throw went to second, where Sopocy was also safe. Michael Garchie stepped in and promptly blooped a single to center to score the lead run. Sopocy went to the mound and recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his first save of the year. Dave Walden picked up the victory after pitching 2/3 of an inning.

The Weasels next game is Sunday, April 23rd against the Dragons at Grosche Field (7:30 p.m. start time).
