Santa Barbara Womens Soccer Organization: FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
When does season start?
Fall season normally starts the Saturday after Labor Day weekend in September. Spring season will often start in early March and run through June
When can I join a team?
You can join a team any time during the season. The team manager must add you to the roster by 1pm Friday prior the game you will play. Once you have been dropped from a roster, you can not be re-added to your team's roster or to another roster for the remainder of the season.
How do I register for the league?
1. Find a team by contacting the New Player Liason or a existing team manager. 2. Pay a team fee to your team, 3. Sign a liability waiver BEFORE participating, 3. Submit a copy of photo ID to you team manager.
What if I want to register a new team for the league?
To register a new team: 1) submit a roster of a minimum of 11 players, 2) Submit season fees, 3) Collect liability waivers and copies of photo ID for you team.
What division should I play in?
Each player should play where they feel most comfortable. Generally, players that have competed on competitive youth or high school varsity teams will prefer to play in Division 1, while players that have not competed at this level may want to try Division 2 first. Former collegiate or professional players are not permitted to play in Division 2.
How old do I have to be?
SBSWO is an adult league, so you must be 18 or older to play. 16-18 year olds may play only with a signed parental waiver and copy of their birth certificate.
Can I field players from aother team if my team is short rostered players for a game?
You may only field "helper" players if your team has less than 12 players at the start of your game. Helper players must not cause you to have more than 1 sub at a time. Once 12 rostered players have arrived, you may no longer use the helper players. Division 2 players can be helper players in either division, however Division 1 players may not play in Division 2 games. The exception is at the goal keeper position- a Division 1 player may play goalie only in a Division 2 game.
