END OF THE ROAD !!!!!!
Welcome To The South Bay Sharks Website
This is the South Bay Sharks Club Baseball Page for the 14 and under travel baseball ball team. The South Bay Sharks baseball organization is one that prides itself on development, integrity, respect, effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship. While baseball is the vehicle, lessons to prepare our young people for real life is the focus. Winning is important, but not the only thing. Family, School, and then Baseball is the order we ask our players to set their priorities. Players are now beginning to deal with adversity. Playing time is not mandatory. They are seeing that there are a lot of good players not only on their own team, but on the opposition as well. They must learn that life is not always fair, and whatever they do at this level must be worked hard for and earned. Nothing will be handed to you. Baseball is not an easy game to play. This is the age where the tough get tougher. This is also the age where we have seen many others move on to other sports, interests or hobbies. Further we hope the organization helps the team members compete at a higher level of baseball. We try to teach techniques and philosophies that are taught at the high school and college level. The real teaching and learning takes place at practice. Game time, is time to put what we've learned to the test. By the time our young men reach high school they should have all the basic tools, and some intermediate tools, know the required work ethic, and have already known success as well as disappointment. This will enable them to better participate on the team athletically and understand the academic requirements. Lastly, the Sharks are about learning new things, giving 100%, hustling, making new friends, becoming good people, and having fun learning and playing a great game...baseball. Mike Debelak manages the 14 and under team. Mike has been part of the Sharks organization for 5 years. Mike has previously coached at all levels of High School baseball, and is an umpire instructor as well.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." Rogers Hornsby, Hall of Famer
Probability Of Playing
Probability Of Playing College and Professional Baseball
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's another "making it to college baseball and the pros" probability table that I found while going through some information from the NCAA. These make good food for thought when you have a student-athlete that is more interested in sports than in the classroom.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baseball
Less than three in 50, or about 5.6 percent, of high school senior boys interscholastic baseball players will go on to play men's baseball at a NCAA member institution.
Less than eleven in 100, or about 10.5 percent, of NCAA senior male baseball players will get drafted by a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.
Approximately one in 200, or approximately 0.5 percent of high school senior boys playing interscholastic baseball will eventually be drafted by an MLB team.

The 10 Commandments Of Baseball
1. Nobody ever became a player by walking after the ball.
2. You will never become a .300 hitter unless you take the bat off your shoulder.
3. If what you did yesterday still looks big to you, you haven't done much today.
4. Keep your head up and you will not have to keep it down.
5. When you start to slide, slide! He who changes his mind may have to change a good leg for a bad one.
6. Do not alibi on bad hops. Anyone can field the good ones.
7. Always run them out. You can never tell.
8. Never quit.
9. Do not find too much fault with the umpires. You cannot expect them to be perfect.
10. A pitcher who hasn't got control, hasn't got anything.
