SBLL Intro and Code of Conduct
Solana Beach Little League

Welcome to Solana Beach Little League!

Solana Beach Little League (SBLL) is an all volunteer, non-profit organization, providing an opportunity to play recreational baseball for boys and girls between the ages of five and twelve. SBLL is comprised of five divisions, Majors, AAA-Gold, AAA-Silver, AA and T-Ball, operating under one Board of Directors.

SBLL provides an outlet for healthy activity and training in an atmosphere of wholesome community participation. SBLL is dedicated to helping youngsters become good citizens and gain confidence by, among other things, inspiring them with a goal and enriching their lives. SBLL seeks to establish the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play and respect for others.

SBLL operates under the guidelines of the SBLL Board of Director’s Constitution and By-Laws, and the Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball Incorporated of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The spirit of Little League is captured in the Little League Pledge, which we encourage all players and families to memorize:

Little League Pledge:

  • I TRUST IN GOD
  • I LOVE MY COUNTRY AND WILL RESPECT ITS LAWS
  • I WILL PLAY FAIR AND STRIVE TO WIN
  • BUT WIN OR LOSE I WILL ALWAYS DO MY BEST

Little League Parent and Volunteer Pledge

  • I will teach all children to play fair and do their best
  • I will positively support all managers, coaches and players
  • I will respect the decisions of the umpires
  • I will praise a good effort despite the outcome of the game

Solana Beach Little League Parental Code of Conduct  As the parent or legal guardian of the child playing Solana Beach Little League (SBLL), I hereby consent to abide by all rules, guidelines and policies established by the Team, League, (SBLL) and District (31) of which my child may be a participant. Additionally, I will, to the best of my ability, ensure that all members of my family, my friends and relatives who may be directly or indirectly participating in Team, League or District activities will also abide by all rules and policies established.

Solana Beach Little League is a recreational program.  Equal emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, teamwork, learning, fun and competition.  Parents, coaches and volunteers need to respond to all players, regardless of ability, in a positive and calm manner.  Many children drop out of recreational youth sport programs because of parents, coaches and volunteers who place too much emphasis on competition and who are less than patient with players who are not at the top of the game.Parents, coaches, and volunteers should always show encouragement and good sportsmanship towards one another.  Derogatory remarks directed at players,  managers/coaches, parents, family members or umpires: WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

I understand that I may be asked to leave the premises of a team activity if, in the judgement of a coach, umpire, or League Board Member, my behavior is deemed to be; inconsistent with the goals and philosophies of the League; is not in the best interest of the children, parents, spectators, etc. who may be participating in the League activity; or if my behavior is abusive, degrading, or could cause harm or injury to people around me.

I
further agree to the following:

  • I will not criticize, belittle or question the ability or authority of any official, coach or volunteer of the Team or League.
  • I will in no way criticize, demean belittle, mock, taunt or attempt to communicate with the UMPIRE before, during or after a game. However I may offer genuine praise and thanks for a umpire's performance as would be expected in and recognized as a showing of good sportsmanship.
  • I will control my emotions during games. I will not yell at or criticize other players, coaches, parents, or officials of the Team or League.
  • I will not use foul language.
  • I will not smoke or use tobacco products or partake of alcoholic beverages while on the premises of a Team or League activity.
 Coach/Parent Relationship:
I will not pressure the coach to…
  • Play my child at a certain position
  • Play my child more than is required by the "Mandatory Play Rule"
  • Alter his/her coaching style, technique or philosophy
  • Question an umpire's judgement or overall officiating ability
I will…
  • Support the decision of my child's coach to play my child at any position the coach sees fit
  • Ensure that my child is on time for all games, practices and activities
  • Attempt to control any negative behavior by my child as pointed out by his/her coach or League Official
  • Encourage my child to play an position his/her coach recommends he/she play
  • Try to volunteer my time whenever possible
  • Understand that all coaches are volunteers who devote a tremendous amount of time and energy to Little League
  • All grievances, problems, questions, etc. will be discussed with a Team or League official OUTSIDE of the presence of children or preferably accomplished off the premises in a personal meeting or telephone conversation
  • I will respect the umpires and not attempt to communicate with them before, during or after games. If I have questions regarding a ruling or call I will speak to the coach after the game.
  • I understand that all League games, practices and activities function under a RECREATIONAL philosophy, stressing sport as a FUN, HEALTHY activity to be participated in for enjoyment and not for competitive advantage or personal achievement
As the parent or legal guardian of the child playing Solana Beach Little League, I understand the above Code of Conduct and will abide by it. I am aware that if I am unable to refrain from any of the unacceptable behavior detailed in this document that I may be asked by the umpire or coach to leave my child's game or practice. SBLL Divisions
Solana Beach Little League 2010 Divisions

T-Ball — Children league age 5 to 7 are assigned to T-Ball, where players have fun learning the fundamentals of the game. All players play all innings and bat around. No scores are kept, so each team wins every game. T-Ball teams practice one afternoon per week. One game is played on Saturday each week.

AA — Children league age 7 through 8 (with some 9 year olds) continue learning fundamentals, improving skills and gaining a better understanding of baseball. AA rules allow 10 players on the defense field at a time. All players play infield and outfield positions and all players bat. Pitching is by machine, which can be adjusted for each player’s strike zone. Teams are encouraged not to keep score and to emphasize equal participation for all players. AA teams practice at least once per week. Games are on Saturdays.

AAA Children league ages 8 through 11 who demonstrate more advanced skills, coordination and understanding of the game are drafted into the AAA Divisions. AAA is divided into two divisions — Gold and Silver — based on skills demonstrated in January tryouts. Teams are created through a player draft. Managers of the teams meet with league officials to draft teams. In both divisions, players improve fundamental skills and develop the teamwork needed to win games. All players play infield and outfield positions and all players bat. There are two games per week and one or two practices per week.
  • AAA-Silver — This division uses most Little League rules and introduces “Live Kid pitching” and umpires.
  • AAA-Gold — This is a more advanced division that uses most Little League rules and prepares kids for the Majors division.
Majors — Children league ages 10 through 12 who demonstrate the highest level of skill, coordination and understanding of the game during try-outs are placed on a draft list as possible Majors Division players. Teams are created through a player draft. Managers of the Majors teams meet with league officials and draft players from the tryout list of registered players. Majors players “fine tune” fielding, throwing, hitting, running and pitching skills in competitive play. There are two games a week and one to three practices per week.

Age and Address Verification

Age and address verification is REQUIRED for all players. Players that are new to SBLL (i.e., either they are just starting T-Ball or did not play in our Spring program the year before) must have the verification done prior to the start of Spring season players assignments. The league announces times and locations when verification can be accomplished. Announcements are made on the league website and through emails to the league mailing list. At verification, you must bring a certified birth certificate with embossed seal (no photocopies will be accepted) or your child’s passport so that your child’s age can be verified. You must also bring three (3) proofs of residence (e.g., drivers license, voter’s registration, or school record – see complete list below of acceptable proof) so we can verify that you live within SBLL's Boundaries. The documents will be reviewed and returned to you at the verification session.

You must have already registered online before attending the Age and Address Verification session. The age and address verification session is NOT for registration.

Little League requires one item (and only one item) from any 3 or more of the following categories to demonstrate proof of residence:
1. Driver’s License
2. Voter’s Registration
3. School records
4. Welfare/child care records
5. Federal records
6. State records
7. Local (municipal) records
8. Support payment records
9. Homeowner or tenant records
10. Utility bills (i.e., gas, electric, water/sewer, phone, mobile phone, heating, waste disposal)
11. Financial (loan, credit, investments, etc.) records
12. Insurance documents
13. Medical records
14. Military records
15. Internet, cable or satellite records
16. Vehicle records

Note: Example – One item – and only one item – may come from any one category. In other words, three utility bills (three items from No. 10 above) will not suffice to establish residency since they come from only one category. To satisfy the proof of residency requirement, there must be a document from two other categories.
