South Beaches Basketball Association: About SBBA
About SBBA
The South Beaches Basketball Association (SBBA) is a registered non-profit 501(c) organization dedicated to providing athletic activities for youth in the form of a sanctioned regulation-play Youth Basketball League. SBBA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of community leaders who volunteer their time and talent to ensure that game-play with the South Beaches Basketball Association results in a positive athletic and educational experience for all of our league participants. Game play is conducted in the indoor basketball gym at the Hoover Middle School in Indialantic, Florida and is officiated by adult referees certified by the Florida High Schools Athletic Association (FHSAA) according to the FHSAA rules for basketball as ammended by the SBBA. Game play is also always monitored by employees of the Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department and SBBA Board Members. All league participants, parents, coaches, and officers are required to sign a Code of Conduct before participation in league play is permitted and to adhere to the Code of Conduct throughout the season. All SBBA basketball coaches are required to be certified by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). SBBA makes use of an equal playing time restriction for all games wherein all league participants are required to play a minimum of 2 quarters per game.
Our primary goal for the league is for everyone to have fun and improve their basketball skills. Our basic philosophy is to foster a positive, supportive atmosphere so that every player has a great basketball experience. Regardless of ability, every member of the league deserves to be treated with encouragement and support. Players should respect one another both on and off the court and should learn to both win well and lose well. We look to you to help reinforce these important concepts: when you come to games or practices, please limit your interaction with your children to positive encouragement from a distance. During games, please sit on the other side of the court from the teams, and please treat the referees with the respect they deserve. We are our children’s most important role models. We will set as good an example as we possibly can, and we would appreciate your help by doing the same.
Our administrators, coaches, parents, and spectators should never lose focus that the main objective is to promote sportsmanship, integrity, and fairness that serves the best interests of the overall majority of the children who participate in our program.
SBBA provides for insurance for all league participants, rules (FHSA as amended by SBBA), gym space, electronic clocks, and certified adult officiating and score books. League play is conducted for both the summer and fall seasons with a pre-season jamboree and a post-season tournament. Team selection is by evaluation and draft by the season coaches in an attempt to ensure that the athletic ability of each team is as equal and balanced as possible.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts at Hoover Middle School.
