Sopranzi JO Bound; Hackney to compete at Senior Champs
Two St. Augustine Cyclones Swim Team swimmers will be competing in state championship competitions over the next two weekends .
Emilia Sopranzi will be competing at the 2009 Florida Swimming Junior Olympics Short Course Swimming Championship on Febuary 20-22 at University Of Florida O'Connell center Pool. Emilia, an eight grader at Gamble Rogers Middle School, will be swimming in two events, the 13/ 14 girls 200 yard and 100 yard breaststroke events.
Noah Hackney will be racing against the states best at the Florida Swimming Senior Championships to be held Febuary 26-March 1 at Orlando International YMCA Aquatic Center. Hackney, a sophomore at St. Augustine High School, will be swimming in five events: 50 yard, 100 yard, and 200 yard frestyle; 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke.

The St. Augustine Cyclones Swim Team started the 2009 winter season competing at Jax Parks Winter Classic held at the Cecil Aquatic Complex January 2-4. Cyclone swimmers posted 60 personal best times and numerous awards. The following swimmers placed in the top 8 and received awards:

Stanfield Selected The St. Augustine Record St Johns County Female Swimmer of the year

St. Augustine High School and Cyclone swimmer Stacey Stanfield was selected St Johns County Female swimmer of the Year by the St. Augstine Record. Stacey was selected from a group of of regional and state county performers. The Record's All-County girls and boys swimming team was compiled by sports writer Danny Klein. Times from state, regional and district meets, and head-to-head competition, went in to determining the team.
On the boys side, Cyclone swimmers Chandler Gerlach, Trey Dotson, Cole Duckett , Noah Hackney and Derek Droege were selected to boy 's team.

Cyclone swimmers Stanfield and Gerlach Make 2008 All First Coast First Team
Congratulations To Cyclone Swimmers Stacey Stanfield and Chandler Gerlach who were selected to Florida Times Union All First Coast Boys and Girls Swim Team. They both made the first team. Audrey Knickerbocker was selected as honorable mention. The Times-Union recognizes the area's top high school athletes by publishing the All-First Coast teams for the fall season. The T-U high school sports staff selects the teams after nominations are solicited by mail from all area varsity coaches. All-First Coast selections were made based on these nominations, the sports staff's observations throughout the season, the players' performances and statistics and their team's quality.

Several Cyclone swimmers finished in the top 8 at Florida Swimming B Championships held December 13th at Cecil Aquatic Center In Jacksonville.

Cyclones swim to lifetime bests at Gator Holiday Classic
The St. Augustine Cyclones Swim Team competed at Gator Swim Club Holiday Classic at University Of Florida O'Connell Center Pool December 5-7.
The Cyclones were led by Stacey Stanfield who placed in seven events events with five top three finishes.
Stanfield , competing in the 13/14 year old age group, took 1st place in the both the 100 yard freestyle (52.44) and 200 yard freestyle (1:53.23). She also took the 2nd place in the 100 yard backstroke (58.99), 3rd place in the 50 yard freestyle (24.44) and 100 yard butterfly (58.92). She finished off her placing performances with a 7th place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle (18:00.28) and 11th place in the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.18).
Other Cyclone swimmers having personal best times were Noah Hackney in the 15/16 year old boys age group in the 50 yard freestyle (23.68) and 100 yard freestyle (51.38), Brian Hodang in the 10 & under boys 50 yard freestyle (33.99), 50 yard backstroke (42.04), 100 yard freestyle (1:23.64), and 100 yard breaststroke (1:42.54). His teammate Alec Dawson swam the lifetime best in the 10 & under boys 50 yard freestyle (41.11), 50 yard backstroke (47.13), 50 yard breaststroke (1:00.56) and 200 yard individual medley (3:37.80). 10 & under girls Madelyn Snodgrass and Joslyn Bulis also recorded personal bests. Snodgrass swam pbt in the 50 yard freestyle (35.41), 100 yard freestyle (1:20.24), 50 yard backstroke (41.45) and 100 yard backstroke (1:26.23). Bulis swam to pbt in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:49.84) and 100 yard freestyle (1:23.28).

Cyclone Swimmer wins State Title !
Congratulations to Cyclone Swimmer Stacey Stanfield who took first place in the girls 100 yard freestyle at the FHSAA Swimming & Diving Championships In Orlando Florida on November 15. Stacey took home the state championship in the girls 100 yard freestyle finals with time 50.97. Her time automatically makes her an High School American. She also took 5th place in the 200 yard freestyle final with an automatic All American Time of 1:50.17

Cyclone Swimmers make noise at St Johns River Athletic Conference Championships.
Several Cyclone swimmers competed for their respected high schools at The St Johns River Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Held at Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville on September 27.
Stacey Stanfield and Noah Hackney representing St. Augustine High School and Chandler Gerlach and Cole Duckett representing Pedro Menendez High School took home conference titles. Stanfield took first place in both the girls 200 freestyle and 100 yard freestyles. Hackney took first place in the 500 yard freestyle. Duckett took first place in the 200 yard freestyle. and Gerlach defended 100 meter breaststroke title for the 4th consecutive year.

Cyclone Swimmers Final At Tom Kingston Invitational
The St. Augustine Cyclones Swim Team competed at Tom Kingston Invitational at the Port Orange YMCA this past weekend. Several swimmers placed in the top 10 and received awards.
Stacey Stanfield took 13/14 girls high point runner up trophy. Stanfield took 1st place in the 50 yard freestyle (25.81), 100 yard freestyle (55.46), 200 yard freestyle (2:00.83) and 500 yard freestyle (5:20..45) events. She also took 4th place in 100 yard backstroke, 5th place in 200 individual medley, and 100 yard butterfly. Her Teammate Emila Sopranzi took 4th place in the 100 yard breastroke (1:16.15) and 5th place in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:44.81). She also finished 7th in 200 yard Individual medley (2:27.71) Leah Rondinelli took 10th place in the 13/14 girls 200 yard backstroke.
Senior Men swimmer Chandler Gerlach took 2nd place in both 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.38) and 50 yard breastroke (29.59). He also placed 10th in 200 individual medley.
Three Cyclone 10 & under Girls placed in the 100 yard backstroke. Madelyn Snodgrass took 6th place with a time 1:30.92 Joslyn Bulis took 7th place and Lauren Cowart Took 8th place. Lauren also took 4th place in the 50 yard breaststroke with a personal best time
of 46.75.
In the 10 & under Boys, Alec Dawson placed 10th in the 200 yard freestyle and 9th in 100 yard butterfly.
In 11 & 12 Girls Age Group, Rachel Hackney took 7th place in the 100 yard backstroke, 8th place in the 200 yard freestyle, and 9th place in both the 50 yard butterfly and 50 yard backstroke. Alex Shatto took 9th place in the 100 yard breaststroke.
In the 11 & 12 Boys, Nicolas Loomis placed 7th in the 50 yard butterfly and 10 th place in 50 yard backstroke. Dominic Garofalo placed 8th in the 100 yard breastroke. Ian Shaw took 10th Place in the 50 Yard Backstroke.
13/14 boy Viktor Cieslik took 7th place in the 100 yard backstroke and 10th place in the 200 yard freestyle.
Senior Mens Swimmer Noah Hackney placed 7th in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.30), 9th place in the 50 yard freestyle and 10th in the 200 yard freestyle..Trey Dotson Placed 6th Senior Men 50 Yard Butterfly.
An added treat was the opportunity to meet Daytona Beach Swimming and Bejing Olympic Gold Medalist
