TIGERS SWEEP RANGERS TO EARN TRIP TO FINALS
Regan "Spot Start" Sproule made his first planned start in months after getting the nod from Skipper Jared "Sandals" Bayne. Sproule went four strong for the Tigers giving up only one earned run. The Tigers went to veteran Dusty Nesbitt who shut down the Rangers the rest of the way to pick up the clinching "W". The Tiger bats were sound asleep most of the night but woke up at key points to rally to a come from behind 2-1 victory to earn a trip to the finals in their first year in the Saskatoon Men's League. Terry Perchewsky drove in Jamie Jantzen with the winning run on a bang-bang play to second. Jared "sandals" Bayne has been fined an undisclosed amount of money by Tiger's brass for more bush-league antics. Bayne took warms ups in open-toes sandals, a move that hasn't been seen since Rich Seaward's first career game with the Skunks in 1978. Bayne was also told he would no longer be allowed to warm up in a triangle formation.
TIGERS' JANTZEN SMOKES RANGERS
Jamie Jantzen had a score to settle on Monday night. The only team who blemished his record during the regular season was the Saskatoon Olympian Sports Rangers. In Jantzen's defense there was none, as the Tigers made five errors to the tune of five unearned runs in that July match-up. Flip ahead to August where Jantzen featured probably his best fastball and breaking ball of the season leading the Tigers to an opening game 3-0 win over the Rangers. Mike Henshel was good for the Rangers forcing a lot of Tigers' groundballs, however the Tigers scored runs when they needed to. Catcher Mike Broadfoot had this to say: "Jamie was lights out tonight kinda Jared Bayne style and the defense was great again which was enough to make up for a slow night on the sticks." James "RBI KING" Mueller weighed in with his thoughts on the contest: "If I hadn't of gotten hurt at the all-star break I would have finished the year with 110 RBI's." Next action between the Tigers and Rangers goes at Leakos Stadium Wednesday night at 6:15pm.
TIGERS SHOW UP WITH A-GAME TO FINISH OFF WOMBATS
The Tigers made history again Wednesday night as they clinched their first ever playoff series with a 17-7 win over the Saskatoon Wombats. Tigers' brass enjoyed seeing everything done right from hitting to defense to pitching. Catcher Mike Broadfoot had these comments: " It all came together for us at the right time, the Wombats are a hell of a hitting team so we didn't want to take our foot off the gas for a second. We got some big clutch hits from Bobby Hubbard, Matt Pasloski, Terry Parchewski, Bryan Briggs, Regan Sproule, Jared Bayne and Dusty Nesbitt, as well as some unreal defensive plays from Munday and Nesbitt up the middle. We also can't forget about the job Jamie Jantzen did pitching 23 innings in the four game series." Also another power display was put on by Dusty "Fenway" Nesbitt and Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne going yard for the Tigers each for the second time in the series. Skipper Jared Bayne had this to say: "I'm just stoked its blizzard day tommorow." The Tigers will open their next series Friday night 6:15 at Leakos Stadium versus the winner of the Rangers/Armadillos series.
GAME CHANGE
In a bizarre move game #2 of the Tigers/Wombats series has been shifted to Friday night so the Wombats can have a full roster. So game #2 will now be Friday night @ 6:15pm @ Leakos Stadium.
A NIGHT OF FIRSTS
The Tigers accomplished numerous firsts on Tuesday night. They not only played in a franchise first playoff game but they also recorded their first ever post season win. Jamie Jantzen went the distance for the Tigers getting outs when he needed to in the 10-7 Tigers' decision. Also a first is four different Tigers going yard for the first time. The long balls came from Dusty Nesbitt, Jared Bayne, Jamie Jantzen and Mike Broadfoot. When reached for comment after the game, franchise player Jared Bayne had this to say "Hey, chicks dig the long ball okay." The Tigers grinded out the win despite a power display from both Tyler and Aaron Byer and group of loud Wombat supporters. The next action between the two clubs goes Thursday 6:15pm at Leakos Stadium. Tickets are said to be going fast, so don't miss your chance to see game two of this playoff showdown.
TIGERS FINISH OFF THE SEASON WITH A SOLID OUTING VERSUS RIVAL SKUNKS
Reagan "Spot Start" got the start for the Tigers and went five strong limiting the Skunks' offense to two runs. The Tiger offense struck early and often putting up 10 runs in the outing. Brian Ruthven came in to pick up the save in the sixth inning. Even finishing of the game with a massive strike out on power hitter Rich Seaward. Seaward was in a hurry to hit three schooners hard at Joe Dogs before a much earned day off on Friday. The Tigers look to start the playoffs on Tuesday versus the Wombats at Diefenbaker #1 ball stadium.
TIGERS NERVOUS WITH RETURN OF SEAWARD LOOMING
The Tigers got some bad news on Wednesday, actually their worst nightmare. Former Tigers' blue chip prospect and current Skunks' slugger Rich "Nighttrain" Seaward is defying doctor's orders and returning from a serious lower body injury three weeks early to help his team reach the postseason. Seaward has successfully completed his rehab stint with the Tugaske Torpedos of the AA valley fun slo-pitch league. Seaward was unavailable for comment but his hitting coach, personal trainer, and agent Scott "Wakaw Doug" Forrest had this to say: "Rich is a special player, he is SMBL ready." The Skunks face a tough test as they will likely see Tigers' knuckleballer Mike Broadfoot. Seaward has zero hits lifetime against Broadfoot so the Tigers may elect to go with the veteran. In a related story James "RBI KING" Mueller has been called back up by the Tigers and is listed as day to day. Skipper Jared Bayne had this to say: We called Jimmy back up from Wakaw to give us a little more punch, also his running seemed back up to speed as we clocked him running home to first on the weekend in one minute, 36 seconds."
TIGER STICKS WAKE UP JUST IN TIME FOR PLAYOFFS TO POUND SWAMP DAWGS
With one regular season game remaining against their cross-town rival Skunks the Tigers received some positive news on Sunday. They actually do still have some pop in their bats. The first six batters of the game for the Tigers reached base and scored. Rookie pitcher Eric "Edubb" Warren won his first career start for the Tigers 15-3. Jared "Accardo" Bayne was lights out coming in for his 4th save of the season. When asked if it was actually a save situation Bayne had this to say: "F#$K Yah." Also of note, veteran Brian Hubbard caught the full game throwing out 50% of attempted base stealers.
SHORTHANDED TIGERS SQUAD SHUTDOWN BLACKSOX
The Tigers showed up Friday night with seven regulars and two pick ups. Starting pitcher Jamie Jantzen showed up seven minutes before game time which was long enough to get ready for another seven strong. Jantzen threw a one-hit shutout while striking out 12 black sox on route to a 4-0 victory. He also ran a track meet on the base paths all night long. The defense played a great game behind Jantzen including a busy night at second base by veteran Brian Hubbard before watching his Riders get spanked in the second half from the shark club. Mike Broadfoot also homered in the 5th for the good guys.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
That's the sound of the Tiger bats sleeping. Thursday night's boxscore from the Tigers vs. the Rhinos was unavailable at press time. Not sure if it will be available to the website as the entire website news team is at Wakaw Lake covering the rehab progress of slugger James Mueller. The Tigers are in search of an alarm clock for their game tonight @ Dief #1 versus the Saskatoon Black Sox.
SPOT START SPROULE LEADS TIGERS TO ONE RUN WIN
Reagan "Spot Start" Sproule went 6 innings only giving up one run to the Royals. The Tigers went to the bullpen with Runners at first and second with no outs in the bottom of seven. Brian Ruthven came on and pitched out of a tough spot to earn his first save of the year and a much needed Tigers' win. The game was highlighted by some highlight reel plays from shortstop Dusty Nesbitt. The Tigers bats on the other hand were slighty off and frustrated.
TIGERS ROLL PAST ANGELS
Brian Ruthven got the start for the Tigers and went 5 1/3 innings pitching out of numerous jams. Jared "lights out" Accardo came in and picked up his third save of the season. The Tigers received some timely hitting and played a good game defensively to pick up the "W". James Mueller continued his rehab stint with the AAA Wakaw Wizards going 0-3 with a strike out and two pop outs to the catcher. Skipper Jared Bayne was on hand in Wakaw to observe the slugger's progress. He had this to say, "Jimmy looked good out there in his visor and shorts, hopefully he can get back into RBI form as soon as possible."
TIGERS BEAT UP ON BREW CREW
The Tigers got the pick up they needed from their ace Thursday night. Jamie Jantzen went the distance and allowing a strong Brewers lineup very little in terms of offense. Jantzen had his good stuff striking out the side on a number of occassions. Skipper Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne had this to say after the game: "It's amazing how good the kid can pitch when he shows up sober." The return of some defense also helped the Tigers end a two game losing streak. The Tigers' offense also had a good night hitting a number of balls hard and driving in runs. The key to the Tigers' win may have been the strong moral support displayed on the bench by James "RBI KING" Mueller. James turned down a trip to DQ with his wife to attend the game, which meant alot to his teammates. The Tigers' webpage team also found out Mueller will have plenty of frozen treats waiting in the freezer for him when he returns home. Mueller needs his strength as he cleared waivers today and will report to the Wakaw Wizards of the Fort Carlton Slow-Pitch league to start rehabing his lower body injury.
TIGERS ON LOSING END IN PA
Dusty Nesbitt got the start and had good stuff through five innings where the score was deadlocked at three. The bottom of the sixth inning proved fatal for the Tigers. Squiblers down the third base line allowed the PA Taco Time club to load up the bases for some timely hits. Skipper Jared Bayne could not be reached for comment after the game as he was sprinting straight to the parking lot for a ride to the Prince Albert DQ. The Tigers' website has been told Bayne was denied a Monster Cookie Blizzard by the DQ employee. Apparently Bayne threw a massive hissy fit and was removed by force from the restaurant by the restaurant manager ninety year-old Rose Dougison. The rest of the club apparently enjoy some delicious DQ frozen treats while Bayne went down the street to Taco Time, KFC and W.K Kitchen. The Tigers hope to rebound Monday when they play their cross-town rival Saskatoon Beiley's Skunks. The Tigers are hoping Skunks' slugger Rich "Nighttrain" Seaward is still locked up in a Mexican prison after a weekend party went international.
TIGERS DROP TIGHT ONE TO RANGERS
The Tigers shot themselves in the foot early and often Thursday night making six errors to drop the game 7-6 to the Rangers. Starter Jamie Jantzen had good stuff but received no help behing him to the tone of five unearned runs.
...............DAMN!
The Tiger bats woke up in a big way in the bottom of seven to pull off a come from behind victory over the Saskatoon Wombats. Jamie Jantzen showed up for the contest in rough shape but like a true warrior took to the mound anyways. He fell victim to some shady defensive plays behind him and left the game after four with the Tigers down 7-2. Jared "Lights Outs" Bayne took the ball and was just that, mowing down the wombats for the next four innings. Also, after finally getting his jersey tucked in, Bayne hit a tape measure shot that would have counted as a four bagger if he had of remembered to unhook the piano he was forced to drag all the way to third base. The Tigers forced extra innings and in the bottom of eight Centrefielder Bryan Briggs singled home "Joe" Carter Munday for the winning run to make it 9-8. It was a great win for the Tigers who finally picked up Jantzen with a little run support. The win did not come without a cost however. The Tigers lost three players to the disabled list after the win on Thursday night. Leland "Grant" Fuhr was placed on the 15 day DL with an upper body injury. James "RBI KING" Mueller was also placed on the 15 DL with a lower body injury that forced him to leave the game after the sixth inning. Also Centrefielder Bryan Briggs is also being placed on the 15 day DL due to a personal leave. Also the team has suspended Jared "lights out" Bayne for the upcoming weekend and the Texas Invitational Tournament for going through an entire at-bat with half his jersey untucked. A member of Tigers' Brass that chooses not to be identified had this to say "Who does he think he is Wayne Gretzky,...Damn. Also photos can be viewed on Facebook."
Next Tigers Action is on Monday June 18th at Diefenbaker #2 Stadium at 6:30pm central standard time. Come out and catch the action it is also James Mueller #24 foam finger night.
TIGERS VERSUS TOROS
The score was unavailable at press time. No members of the Tiger Page Paparazzi could attend the game to obtain highlights or scores as they were all down at the Home Depot looking for wall paper.
JANTZEN AND BAYNE PROVE TOO MUCH FOR SKUNKS
Jamie Jantzen went the distance pitching 9 solid innings allowing only one run to score when a soft change-up slipped and hit an unknown Skunk's player who spent many minutes rubbing the mark before he took his base later scored on a single by Darren "Don't Call me Barney" Shynkaruk. Former blue chip Tiger prospect Rich "NightTrain" Seaward also light up the sky with a hard double to the gap but was later stranded by Jantzen. Results of Seaward's post game urine test are still unavailable. His hitting instructor Wakaw Doug Forrest was heard chanting "Barry" from the stands after the hit. Jared Bayne grabbed a bat in the bottom of nine and slapped a solid double over the head of an unknown Skunk's centrefielder to cash the winning RBI. James "RBI King" Mueller got in the action after the contest when he didn't receive a bar of soap with his shower. Skipper Bayne also split the uprights with a field goal to finish of the night. He had these comments "After a great game like that I think we may take our team down to Texas to play some winter ball, I hear they have a great league down there, where anyone can sign up to play."
****TIGERS NEXT ACTION IS AGAINST THEIR CROSS-TOWN RIVAL SASKATOON BEILEY'S SKUNKS ON MONDAY JUNE 11TH AT DIEFENBAKER 1. TIGERS SOLID IN ROAD TRIP WIN OVER DAVIDSON
The Tigers were back to their old tricks playing nine man for the first time since the 2006 season. Brian Ruthven made the start for the Tigers and went five strong innings giving up four earned runs. Reagan Sproule came in to mop up with the two-inning save. For the first time in recent memory the Tigers played a solid seven innings of error-free ball, with some smart defensive plays from veterans like Jimmy "Brown Shoes" Mueller. The Tigers also used the long ball with shots from catcher Mike Broadfoot and second basemen Matt Paslowski in his first game of the season. Also James "RBI King" Mueller added to his team RBI lead with an off- field single to cash in a run in the 9-4 Tigers' victory. Notably absent from the game was Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne who was attending a blizzard conference in Calgary and Leland Fehr who suffered an upper body injury in a non-baseball related incident on Saturday.
TIGERS DROP DECISION TO DIGGERS
Reagan "Spot Start" Sproule started in another emergency start as Jamie Jantzen won the lottery and took a much needed early weekend vacation. The Tigers stranded base runners in nearly every inning and weren't able to over come numerous fielding blunders dropping the decision 8-3. The two bright spots were rookie Brian Ruthven debuting with two doubles and Brian Hubbard recording his first three hits of the season going 3 for 3. When reached for comment Hubsy had this to say, "Hey, I have an average now."
TIGERS REACH CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH JANZEN (June 2/07)
The Tigers sured up their future on Friday as they came to terms with Jamie "Rick Dipietro" Janzen. The contract will see Janzen in a Tigers' uniform for the next 15 years. Team manager Jared Wang had this to say Friday night from his home on the west side of the city. "I was just sitting there eating a large monster cookie blizzard and Jamie cam up and said he had just inked the deal with Tigers' brass, I almost dropped my spoon." Now Tigers' brass can turn their attention to signing Jimmy "RBI King" Mueller to a long term deal.
TIGERS 9-4 OVER LOCKWOOD (May 27/07)
Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne picked up the win going three strong lights out innings in relief. The bats woke up late in the bottom of the 5th inning to come back and secure the win.
TIGERS ENJOY "MUELLER TIME"!!! (May 23/07)
Reagan Sproule pitched strong going 4.1 innings in an emergency start in place of an intoxicated Jamie Janzen. Janzen came on in the 5th and eventually picked up his second win of the season. The Tigers resorted to some old tactics to make it close at the end but Janzen heated up to K a pinch hitting Dillo to secure the win. Janzen also ripped a tape measure solo homerun to straight away centre to lead off the bottom of the 5th. The real hero of the day was James "Manchu Wok" Mueller who made two "MAD" scoops at first base and clutched up with a single up the middle to drive in Carter Monday and Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne with the winning run. When reached for comment after the game all Mueller has to say was "I still have my hybernation bulk on." Also on a sad note Tigers' Second basemen Brian Hubbard spent 30 minutes looking for his car keys after the game including three yard sales of his equipment bag before discovering they were indeed in his pocket tucked into his wallet. Hubbard has been suspended by the team until saturday for his lack of competence.
NEXT TIGERS ACTION IS SUNDAY @ 6:00 AT LEAKOS FIELD VERSUS LOCKWOOD
TIGERS' MANAGEMENT WOULD ALSO LIKE TO INVITE FANS TO SIGN THEIR GUESTBOOK AND VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE TIGERS' SUPERSTAR.
TIGERS MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW OVER THE EXPOS (MAY 17/07)
Reagan Sproule went four strong innings for the Tigers before giving way to Dusty Nesbitt for a three inning save in a 10-1 victory over the Saskatoon Expos. The Tigers took advantage of numerous beanballs and walks while showing lots of intensity on the base paths with aggressive base running. On a sad note Jimmy "Brown Shoes" Mueller was suspended again by Tigers' brass for rubbing a sore spot after both a beanball and a soft throw in the leg on an attempted pick off. Mueller's suspension will carry threw the long weekend where he will not be allowed to practice with the club.
TIGERS FOLLOW JANZEN TO HOME OPENER VICTORY (MAY 16/07)
Pitcher Jamie "Rubber Arm" Janzen went five strong for the Tigers before giving way to Jared "Monster Cookie" Accardo who picked up the two inning save. The final was 8-4 in favour of the good guys over the Saskatoon Cannons. The Tigers had trouble shaking off the off season rust while booting and throwing the ball around. Luckily for the Tigers they received some timely hitting at key points in the line up including a big RBI single from Bob Hubbard who now has more hits than his brother Brian this season. Brian Hubbard was not available for comment.
BAYNE AND MUELLER REINSTATED JUST IN TIME FOR SEASON OPENER (MAY 12/07)
Skipper Jared "Monster Cookie" Bayne and James "brown shoes" Mueller were reinstated by Tigers' brass early in the afternoon before the team's home opener. Both players will spend the remainder of the season on probation. Many terms of the probation were not released however it is believed the two will no longer be permitted to party together or share in their favourite Manchu Wok lunch dates. Leadoff hitter Mike Broadfoot commented late wednesday on the decision to reinstate the two. "I think it's for the best, they are both in my top 75 list of people I'd want to hangout with, so I think the move is a positive one for the team, until Jimmy tries to pull another stunt like brown shoes with a black suit."
