We Get Letters...

Hi,

I just wanted to thank the entire Santa Susana Baseball organization for a great year.  This is our first year with this league and we really enjoyed it.  My boys had a great time and they are looking forward to returning next season!

I know that it takes a lot of time and effort from the Board to organize the entire season. I am sure it sometimes feels all your hard work goes unnoticed, but we know our boys would not have had such a great experience if it was not for you.

Thanks also for a great trophy picnic today.  My boys had a blast!  The bags filled with all the goodies were awesome and the luggage tags were a thoughtful touch.

Again, thanks for stepping up to the plate and hitting it out of the park!

See you at the fields.

Sincerely,

The Hammond Family
Janet & Dan

Pinto A's Finish on Top!

In a very tight game (0-0 after 4 innings), the Pinto A's clinched the championship title with a final score of 4 - 1 over the Pinto Orioles.  The A's, managed by Justin Holt and coached by Tim Hensel and Mike Grace, proved that hard work pays off, as the team is made up of all 7 yr-olds, with the exception of two players who are 8.  Congratulations to both teams for making it to the finals!

Bronco Blue Jays Win...4-1

Congratulations to the Bronco Blue Jays for winning the season-ending championship tournament yesterday afternoon!  In a close, low-scoring game, the Jays' tough defense held their biggest opponents, the Bronco A's, to only 1 run.  The team, managed by Steve Sandoval and coached by Robert McMillan, finished the season very strong, after entering the tournament as the 3rd seed.  Nice job, Blue Jays!  Congratulations also go out to the runner-up team, the A's, after having a very successful season.

Thursday, June 4
White Sox Clinch the Mustang Championship!

Congratulations to the Mustang White Sox for winning the Division Championship today after defeating the Mustang Mariners in the finals.  The team, coached by John Bollier, Tom McLain and Matt Downey, only suffered one loss all season, and made their way through the playoffs undefeated.  Players from both teams played their hearts out, and it was a close game, ending with the score of 9-7. The Mustang Mariners, coached by Eric White, Todd Orsini, and John Soria, finished as the division runner-ups, and also had quite a successful season.  Great job, coaches...and to all the boys on both teams - well done!

Opening Day - Spring 2009

Reds banner

Opening Day, Spring 2009, went off without a hitch, as players and fans flocked to the newly renovated Santa Su fields.  The pancake breakfast was a huge success and we want to thank the coaches who cooked, and big sisters of some of the Mustang players who mixed gallons and gallons of pancake batter.

Barbra Williamson, Mayor Pro Tem, threw out the first pitch to officially open the Spring '09 season, after offering some very kind words to the audience.  The guest speaker was former L.A. Dodger third baseman, Ken McMullen, who commented that the Santa Su fields were among the nicest he had ever seen.

The team with the overall best banner was the Mustang Reds.  The banner, depicting a set of Topp's baseball cards, was designed by Kaydi Tovar, who won a set of four Dodger tickets.  This was Kaydi's second grand prize win in the banner contest, after having also won in Spring 2007.  The other divisions' first place winners were the Shetland Express, Pinto Indians, and Bronco A's.

The first home run of the Spring 2009 Season was hit on the Mustang field by Ray "Boom-Boom" Perez of the Mustang White Sox.  This was quite an accomplishment considering that Ray only started playing baseball for the first time this past Fall.  During the two scrimmage games the White Sox played the week before Opening Day, Ray almost went yard during each of his three at-bats.  Keep an eye on this kid!
