Santa Cruz Volleyball Club 2009-10 We're a nonprofit club starting our 11th season. This club was started with the intentions of providing volleyball coaching for players interested outside the high school venue. We  work diligently to uphold our philosophies, and have nurtured many players that have gone to play at higher levels. We believe there's a quality player in everyone and we are not elusive we know that every player has potential and we are committed to providing quality coaching to each and every player that goes through our program. We always try to keep our costs down and try to accommodate girls that cannot afford to play by offering scholarships, however due to parents not fulfilling their financial obligations we have to increase our dues. We're not aggressive with our attempts to ask for payment, we spend an entire summer sending notices, but we also understand families incur hardships so the club ultimately absorbs the costs. We charge between 1850-2600 this season and may not include travel expenses. Within the last few years SCVBC has absorbed over $30,000 in delinquent dues, in other words, players that have gone through the course of the season and have not paid, we can no longer accommodate delinquencies and players will be suspended from club if payments (or arrangements) have not been met.

I've learned that if you include the cost of hotels the team may rarely stay over, if you keep the club dues low and parents pay the hotel fees as they go than you save between 800-1000, which for some parents, is quite a difference. People may think that they're not saving money and end up having to pay the difference from more expensive clubs, but when you divide a room between 3 players its 35-40 dollars a night! And how many nights through the course of a season do they stay? Maximum 7 nights (and that's staying a night every tournament) and then again they could stay 1 or 2 stay overs totaling 40-300 maximum and I don't think parents get reimbursed for nights not stayed. And SCVBC is mostly Power League and costs the same as local Area league clubs. Please do your research.

Also, NCVA the association which governs our club has increased its costs again, as well as the local gyms we use. We’re a nonprofit organization that still has to pay fees that are even tight for this club. Gym time is now $70 per hour and cost for all NCVA team registration and tournaments have gone up at least 10% and 100% since we first began our club journey in 1999. We require a down payment of 1/3 the total cost to help initiate the season (club fees, tournament fees, NCVA memberships, etc). Then we ask the remaining dues 1/3 payment each ensuing month. We used to threaten that if dues were outstanding then a player would run the risk of sitting or not participating in practice, but we always hope that parents will communicate and work out a solution for payment. However, due to ongoing delinquencies we will have to suspend players from practice, tournaments, etc. Sadly, this affects the entire club!

Our club tries to promote confidence in young players whether they're outstanding or newly developing skills that they want to nurture through club volleyball. We try to find a place for players while keeping the integrity of the team. We don't recruit throughout the school year to make some feel superior while others feel left out, I know this is a competitive world, but why start the divisiveness now; they have a life time of that ahead of them!! We have the best coaches in the county collegiate coaches, coaches with 5 or more years of club coaching experience and those that have a love for the sport and are eager to pass on the enthusiasm.

Our web site is www.santacruzvbc.com and our association is www.ncva.com

Let me know if there’s any question or if anything is unclear, I will do my best to help you all understand the idea of club.

Thanks,

Donna Beronia
