Jimmy Durham, now in his third season as top assistant to head coach Tom Arrington, knows plenty about winning in the game of baseball.
Durham was an assistant coach for the New Mexico Junior College team that won the 2005 national title at the JUCO World Series. A season later, he found himself on the staff of one of the nation’s legendary programs and helped Arrington all the way to the 2006 JUCO series. In 2007, the Gators advanced to the JUCO World Series again.
Durham helps in all phases of the game and playing a big role in recruiting future talent.
“Jimmy is a great coach,” Arrington said. “He went to high school here in Houston, had a solid playing career and then became a coach. We are fortunate to have Jimmy here.”
“I know a lot of the coaches in the area, and I know what kind of talent there is in this area,” Durham said. “You have to have talented kids, and there is a little luck involved when it comes to winning a national title. But, it also takes having a collective group of guys who simply aren’t ready to take the uniform off yet.”
