Week 8 Wrap-Up

The Inland Empire Championships drew many County programs, but some sent skeleton squads as this falls between Arcadia and Mt. SAC and the post-season rapidly approaching.  Oak Hills came with both barrels and showed they are a pretty complete squad outside of the distances.  They were very solid in the sprints with their girls taking 2nd behind Murrieta Mesa in 48.67.  While not the invite heat, they went 1-2-3 in the 100 meters with Andrea Nugent leading the way at 12.50...Darrin Hill took over the County lead in the 400 with a 3rd place finish in 49.13...Even without Jada Hicks of Upland, the 100 hurdles turned out to be quite a race with Mya Greene of Carter taking 3rd in 14.29, followed by teammate Mariah Stewart in 14.99.  Greene came back to take 2nd in the 300 hurdles in 43.28...Everyone knows Citrus Valley is a force in the girls 400 and in turn the 1600 relay, and they showed it Saturday with a 1-2 finish by Kyrah Johnson and Cienna Norman-Thomas in 55.89 and 56.24 respectively.  Citrus Valley was 2nd to Roosevelt in the 1600 relay, running 3:54.43...There was a tight 2-3-4 finish for County runners in the girls 1600 - Amber Rios of Colony was 2nd in 5:10.87, Chelsey Romo of Redlands was 3rd in 5:11.50, and Danielle Gee of Yucaipa was 4th in 5:13.21...On the boys side, Rancho Cucamonga's Darius Riley moved down to the 1600 and ran 4:19.83...Yucaipa's Asani Hampton easily won the 100 in 10.49, showing solid consistency this season and breezed in the 200 too at 21.21, followed by Oak Hills' Wesley McCall in 22.21...Silverado's Derek Porter took 2nd in the boys 300 hurdles at 38.91...Redlands' Chelsey Romo came back from a very good 1600 to break 2:20 in the 800...Upland's Hassani Hawkins took 2nd in the boys 800 at 1:58.00...In the field events, Sultana's Ivontae Hudson hit a wind-legal 21-6.5, while Silverado freshman Johnathan Battee was 20-10 wind-legal and over 21 feet with a slight help...Oak Hills' Andrea Nugent was 3rd in the triple jump at 36-7.5 while Citrus Valley's Antwan Betters won the boys competition in 44-11...San Gorgonio star thrower Ana Tovi had a tough time in the discus without a fair throw but did win the shot put as expected...Oak Hills' Phillip Dowes popped a nice toss in the discus at 151-2, a personal best...Darla Gonzalez of Apple Valley won the pole vault clearing over 12 feet once again.
