Congratulations to the San Antonio Renegades the 2009 Texas Sixman Football Association Epler Cup XI Champions
The first ever TSFA night game was a classic, both teams made the league proud with the level of commitment, determination and sportsmanship with which both teams exhibited before, during and after this memorable championship game. Coach Fred Garcia and his Outlaw football team, along with a few hundred fans, attacked first. The Outlaw defense created turnovers and scored the first points of the game. Shawn Battles and his Renegade football team, along with a few hundred of their fans struck back and tied the score 6 all. The scoring exchange continued as both teams managed to each get 6 points on the board, for their respective teams, with only 45 seconds on the clock and halftime on the brink. The Renegades would score the final 6 points of the half with no time on the clock. Halftime would arrive with both teams tied.
The second half saw a continuation of the first half with hard aggressive hits and big play after big play on both sides of the ball. #9 Henry Booth aka Silk would make smart decisions while tucking the ball and running when nothing was open down field. Silk played with a high level of energy and leadership that would turn out to be unmatched. #66 Leo Reyes also had some timely catches as #15 Manuel Garcia found him on two consecutive plays open and earning positive yards as they drove towards thier endzone with both teams continuing to match the other score after score.
The 4th quarter arrive and the boxing match would continue with big offensive and defensive plays. The end of the 4th quarter would arrive and with seconds on the clock and a tie score, Outlawz QB - Manuel Garcia would connect with #21 Zachary Young on a deep pass that would place the Outlawz inside the 5 yard line. The Outlawz would find themselves rushing downfield with the clock running, as they were out of timeouts, and a dramatic misque would result in OVERTIME!
The Renegade defense was determined not to let the Outlawz score, led by South Defensive Player of the Year Oscar Valdez and South Defensive Player of the Year Runner-up Eric Trinidad the Renegade defense caused a turnover by an Outlaw RB. Eric Trinidad aka Turtle, forced the turnover.
The Renegades would take possesion as #32 Eric Martinez would not be denied the endzone. The Renegades would proceed to score and secure the Victory and earn The Epler Cup XI Championship. The final score 38 - 32 (OT).
Henry Booth was a unanimous selection as Epler Cup XI MVP.
Congratulations to both teams on a great season, Thank You to the fans, family and friends who showed up and made the night a very special moment in the history of the TSFA. I would also like to recognize the players of the TSFA, TSFA Live aka Dontay Evans and Luis Portillo who showed up in support of the TSFA, Outlawz and Renegade Football Teams.
Finally, thank you Winston School - Dr. Charles J. Karulak, Mr. Steven Yocham, Mr. Tommy Matthews and Athletic Director Mark Hambrick for helping the TSFA make this event occur.

The Winston School was there for the TSFA at our time of need and we are grateful to Winston for not only allowing us the use of their field but also for the unique studies that take place at the Winston School of San Antonio. As many of you have noticed the league has been providing food concessions during game days. The purpose of the concessions is to raise money to improve the football field. The Administrators at Holy Cross High School have given the league consent to make field improvements at seasons end. The relationship we have built with Holy Cross H.S. over the past three years took a serious step this offseason. The administrators at Holy Cross are taking steps to aggressively improve their facilities. As guests of Holy Cross I felt it was our turn to do something that would benefit both entities.
I discussed the situation with Mr. Balli, who referred me to Official-Brack Jackson, it turns out that Brack used to run his own lawn care company. Brack has given me a laundry list of things that we can do to improve the field but each and everyone of the items cost money. The decision was made to run a concession stand as a means of raising money. While we are not close to generating the money which we will need to take on this project we will continue to push forward and utilize various options to get the field to an improved level.
I'd like to thank the TSFA Members, Family, Friends and Fans for supporting the TSFA in this venture. The challenge is significant but hopefully we will achieve our goal. I'd also like to give special thanks to Carlos Balli and family and Robert Balli.
