St. Augustine Little League: Challenger Division

ST AUGUSTINE LITTLE LEAGUE CHALLENGER DIVISION BASEBALL
ST AUGUSTINE LITTLE LEAGUE CHALLENGER DIVISION BASEBALL for EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS AGED 5 TO 16

St. Augustine Little League is chartered by the National Little League, the host of the Little League World Series. In an effort to expand the opportunities for boys and girls to enjoy the recreational and competitive benefits of the game of baseball, Little League operates the Challenger Division for exceptional athletes. This Division provides team play both with the St. Augustine Little League and with Leagues from nearby communities. Each Challenger team will receive team uniforms and will play together on a team for the Spring 2003 season. Each team will consist of 12 to 14 players.

To accommodate the needs of the players, the St. Augustine Little League will improve the facilities by the installation of paved handicapped parking, paved dugouts and fan viewing areas and paved sidewalks to the concession and restroom areas. In 2002-2003, the League will install additional restrooms. These accommodations are made possible by a grant from the Brooks Foundation to the League in the amount of $48,000.00. The Brooks Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to fostering solutions to the needs of exceptional citizens.

Play for the Challenger Division will include participation by adults and by players from other teams in the League who will assist the Challenger players in the field and at the bat. The amount of assistance provided, however, will be determined by the Challenger player. If the player desires assistance in running the bases, catching, throwing or only one of these activities, he or she will be accommodated.

The League will begin play at the League's complex on Osceola School Road off State Road 207. Play will usually be held on Saturdays. In the event of interleague play with teams from other communities, some travel may be involved to Jacksonville.
