CITIZEN'S PETITION #54 FOR MICHELE PARK IMPROVEMENTS PASSES 3/18/06 Town Meeting!!!!!
MMP Citizen's Petition Summary:
SYSA Citizen's Petition to the Town of Salem to ask for improvements to the Michele Memorial Park Soccer Field in the amount of $69,500 has been PASSED!! The MMP improvements will include widening the field, regrading for drainage, loam, installation of a sprinkler system, seeding for new grass, and installation of a fence around the field. The intent of the improvements is to allow the MMP Field to be more fully utilized in order to reduce the load on the Morse Fields in anticipation of the Recreation teams moving over there.

SYSA Funded Activities:
1. SYSA has assisted Salem Youth Baseball in their plan to widen the Michele parking lot by contributing $10,000. Total cost for this project is ~$35,000 (actual cost without material and labor donations ~$80,000). This was done without taxpayer dollars.
2. SYSA is waiting for State approval to build the blockhouse on Morse Field (~$70,000). See SYSA Sponsors page to view blockhouse drawing. This will be done without taxpayer dollars.
3. SYSA has reworked and fertilized School and Town fields (>$15,000). This was done without taxpayer dollars.
4. SYSA awards 2each $1000 scholarships every year to High School seniors. This is done without taxpayer dollars.
5. SYSA spent $16,000 on the world-class Morse Field equipment (nets, benches, flags, waste cans). This was done without taxpayer dollars.
6. SYSA puts aside $1000/yr for financial assistance for youth that would otherwise not be able to participate. This is done without taxpayer dollars.
7. SYSA funds all licensing, training and 1st aid to all our volunteers (coaches, referees and coordinators).

The FIELDS COMMITTEE is seeking new members.
If you are interested in joining our committee please contact Dan English, denglish@cedarpointcom.com or Amy White, kevinamywhite@comcast.net. We are currently involved with the blockhouse construction at Morse Fields, Michele Park Field reconstruction and other exciting projects! PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR THE YOUTH OF SALEM!!

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY/PROCEDURE
In order to maintain, as well as improve the conditions of the Town fields, it is imperative that all coaches and players abide by this Weather Cancellation Policy/Procedure. If the fields are deemed closed, you must stay off the fields! If inclement weather including heavy rains the day before, call SYSA at 1-888-715-5592 (after 4:30PM weeknights, after 10:30AM on weekends) for field status. As always, use your best judgment. If the fields are soaked and the players start to tear up the field, call off the game or practice in order to maintain the fields for our community. All SYSA members must strictly adhere to this policy/procedure.
Thank you, Mazen Khawatmi/SYSA President
See Field Usage Policy Page for more details.
