Batting Cage Construction
After many months of planning and preparation, the covered batting cage is now close to becomming a reality. The roof construction is now complete including custom trusses, metal roof and closed in gables. While there are still several projects that need completion, the cage is very close to being ready for use. This facility will come in handy during the season especially on rainy days.
This project was made possible by the hard work and dedication of many people. I have listed below people who either donated time, labor or materials to this project:
Brad Thomas-Brad worked with Snapping Shoals to provide us and install the poles for the cage. Thank you, Mr. Thomas.
Randy Baldwin, Bruce Crumbley, Tommy Cash-These guys spent many weekends working with the installation of the poles, hanging the net and completing various other projects around the field last year. Thank you for all of your hard work.
Kevin Rudolph, Lane Hill, Scott Revo, Hugh Patterson-Thank you for removing the net and preparing the site for construction. Sorry but now we have to put it back up!
Truss Systems, Inc.-Thank you, Mr. Jody Chitwood for providing us with a great custom product that will last for years to come. Mr. Chitwood was great to work with and really helped us out with the price and delivery.
Social Circle Ace Homecenter-Joel Clegg, owner of Ace donated a large portion of the materials needed to complete the building. Thanks to his generous donation, we were able to keep the project within the budget. Thanks also to Mike Rosser and Scott Neely for helping with estimates and delivery.
Pete Holmes-Mr. Holmes has been building with my father for many years. Pete worked for the past week providing great expertise and quality construction on our building. Thank you, Pete for helping with this project.
Dennis McLendon-Our booster club president has gone above and beyond the call of duty while serving his term. He has worked tirelessly since May providing for our program. He worked on the building every step of the way. Thank you, Dennis for all your hard work.
Eddie Bagwell-Coach has been a Seminole for a long time as a booster club president, parent and now assistant coach. Coach Bagwell also worked on the building every step of the way. Thank you, Eddie for all you do for our program.
Billy Buckner-Billy is a 2001 Salem graduate and current Arizona Diamondback starting pitcher. Billy has made two generous donations to Salem Baseball both in 2006 and 2009. Without his donation, this project would not have been possible. Thank you, Billy for your generosity and dedication to Salem.
Frank and Karen Webster-The Websters have offered to complete the wiring and lighting of the building. This will further enhance an already impressive facility. Thank you for agreeing to do this.
Kenneth Kitchens-My Dad has helped me build things several times during my coaching career. He agreed to take on this project during the planning stages. He is without a doubt the hardest working man I know. He has done so many things for me that are too numerous to list, but the most important thing he did was what he taught me about life. I have great respect for his expertise in the building field, but I have even greater admiration for his ability as a father. I look up to him like no one else. A special thanks goes out to him from me. Daddy, I love you.
I will be calling on the parents to help finish this project including hanging the nets, painting, etc. This building is something we can all be very proud of and use for many seasons to come. I hope you will be as impressed and excited as I am when you see it.

2010 Sign Campaign
Our first major fundraiser for the 2010 season is under way. We are looking for businesses in our community to sponsor our players. With everyone's help, we can make this a very successfull fundraiser and continue to build our tradtion. Below is a copy of our invoice for businesses for this season. It is very important that each family do their part and obtain a sponsorship. This fundraiser will make it possible for us to finish the construction on our batting cage.
Dear Salem Baseball Supporter,
The Seminoles are gearing up for another successful campaign this season. We plan on continuing the strong Salem Baseball tradition during the 2010 season but need your help in order to make that happen. We depend on financial support from businesses like yours in order to have an operating budget sufficient to meet the needs of our student athletes. Without your help, it will be very difficult for us to have the kind of baseball program we want to have.
If you agree to sponsor our team, your business will be advertised for one full year. The Salem baseball field is used year round and hosts around two hundred games between three school baseball teams, men’s leagues, tournaments, and fall baseball. In addition to this, your advertisement will also be included on our website and our program. We have several options for your business to choose which are detailed below. We thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you at the ball park during the 2010 season!
Option 1: Tomahawk Club-3’ x 5’ banner placed on our new batting cage or access road fence. A new banner costs $180. A renewal banner is only $100.
Option 2: Seminole Club-4’ x 6’ banner placed on the outfield fence offering maximum visibility. A new banner costs $220. A renewal banner is only $100. We will have forty five players in our program this year in grades nine through twelve.
We are requiring each player to sell at least one sign sponsorship. Once we meet this goal of $4,500, this fundraiser will pay for a covered batting cage, remaining windscreen, and a new pitching machine. If you have any questions about this sponsorship, feel free to contact me at any time. Please make checks payable to the Salem Dugout Club. They can be mailed to the address below. My contact information is also listed below.
Sincerely,
Chad Kitchens

Salem Baseball History Now Complete!
After a year of hard work and help by several people, the Salem Baseball History is finally ready to be published. In order to access this information, click on the history link to the left. This research includes all the records for every Salem Baseball team since the beginning of the school in 1991 as well as offensive, defensive and pitching records. The last section details all the senior classes in Salem history with college and/or professional playing information.
I would like to personally thank the following people for your help in this endeavor,
Coaches-Jim McBrayer, Craig Baum, Ricky Turner, Mike Phiel, Chris Davis, Eddie Bagwell, and Terry Cole.
Also, a special thanks goes out to Jack Dyer, George Allen and Don Buckner who sent in stat sheets from several missing years. Without the help of all these people, this work would not have been completed. Thank you so much for all of your help!
It is my sincere hope that this history will bring back old memories for Seminoles of years past and give current Seminoles something to strive toward. We should all be very proud that we have been able to be a part of such a storied program. The current coaching staff is planning on placing banners at the field before the 2010 season to recognize all of the team accomplishments of Salem Baseball.
If anyone sees mistakes or someone left out, please let me know as soon as you can. I will be glad to change any mistakes that may have been made in the forming of this mass of information.
