Big Prizes To Be Awarded in Treasure Coast Race Series
The Sailfish Striders' race series is back, and better than ever. For the first time, we're giving winners more than a plaque and a pat on the back. Overall, masters, and the top-three, age-group champions will receive gift certificates from Fleet Feet in Stuart. The top male and female overall and masters runners will each earn certificates for $100. First-, second- and third-place finishers in five-year age groups will receive certificates for $25, $15 and $10 respectively. Up to $2,000 in gift certificates will be given away.
The series consists of eight races of varying distances, starting Sept. 11 with a 5K in Halpatiokee Park. At every race, participants earn points. Prizes will be given to runners with the most points. Participants must run at least five series races to qualify. Runners accumulate points based on their finishing positions in series races. Every participant earns at least one point, even if he finishes last. So the more races you run, the better your chances are of winning a series prize.
One of the first four races in the series will award double points. So will one of the second four. Nobody knows until race day which races they'll be. So don't miss a single race, and you won't miss this opportunity to maximize your points.
Throughout the series, runners' standings will be posted on the Race Series page. You'll always be able to see how close you and your competitors are to winning series prizes.
To participate in the series, you must be a member of the Sailfish Striders by Sept. 11. Participants also must renew their annual memberships for 2011 by January 31, 2011. Membership offers many perks including discounted entry fees on most series races. Non-members are welcome to compete for prizes in any individual series race, but can not win series awards.
Series prizes will be distributed at the annual Run for the Pineapple on Memorial Day.

If there is enough interest in the local area running community, Jessi Stensland of Movement U would be willing to lead a class in the Stuart area on October 16, 2010. The class is five hours long and costs $99, which includes class materials and refreshments. For more information, visit the movementu website. Please contact Alex Beringer at alex.beringer@flyfairwind.com to sign up. There is a minimum of 20 participants needed for a class.
MovementU - Understand running like you never have before. This interactive educational experience designed and lead by professional endurance athlete and movement specialist, Jessi Stensland, will enhance participants' understanding of the body and how to prepare it to perform injury-free and energy efficiently. It starts with a dynamic functional workout followed by an in-depth discussion of the roles and relationships of the following fundamental elements of athletic performance including nutrition, joint mobility, flexibility, strength, stability, elasticity, cardio capacity and regeneration/recovery. From there participants will be walked through proper running form and function in relation to what was learned in the early part of the class.

The Sailfish Striders could not conduct races without the help of our loyal club membership. The Board of Directors greatly appreciates the time that each of you have given to the club in the past. Now, the Board would like to do more. With the start of the new racing season in September, the Sailfish Striders will be awarding Strider Bucks to club members who volunteer and work at our races. This is our way of saying THANK YOU for your continued help and support.
