Sailfish Striders: Welcome

NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Sailfish Striders Running Club will take place on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm, Palm City Community Center at Leighton Park, 2701 SW Cornell Avenue, Palm City (near the Palm City bridge, click here for map).  All club members are welcome to attend.  Any club member interested in serving on the Board or a committee should email sailfishstriders@gmail.com.  

       We're cleaning out our storage locker to put on a race!

          $5 – Club Members    $10 – Non-members

·       Race is part of the Sailfish Striders Race Series

·       No t-shirts (unless we find some leftovers from past races)

·       Water, Gatorade, Bagels and Bananas

·       Overall, Masters &Age Group Awards (“trophies” will be awarded)

·       You must register in advance using the on-line registration form

·       NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION!!!!! DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS MARCH 1, 2012

·       CASH ONLY - WILL BE COLLECTED RACE DAY

·       Race start/finish is the Jensen Beach public beach parking lot

All Sailfish Strider club members are invited to an open house/pre-race dinner at Oceanside Physical Therapy from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  You don't have to be running in the Race for Research the next day to attend.  The dinner will be catered by Carson's and the Osceola Street Cafe and is free.  There will be door prizes and a chance to check out some nifty new equipment designed to assess a runner's stride.  Please R.S.V.P. at 772/283-3820 or blgmpt@aol.com by March 16th if you are planning on attending.

Congratulations to the 304 runners who had beautiful weather for this year's race.  Overall winners were Tommy Allore and Heather Gollnick.  Masters winners were Freddie Valdes and Cynthia Washam.  Results have been posted on our Race Results page.  Race series results will be updated soon.  For more photos of the event, please click on the Albums page.

The Sailfish Striders Running Club is offering up to four $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors.  Scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female in both Martin and St. Lucie counties.  The scholarships are limited to high school seniors who are involved in the running community in some way, through their schools, at local races, through volunteer activities, etc.  To be considered for the scholarships, applicants must submit an essay (maximum 500 words) on what running means to them and how running or volunteering at races benefits the community.  Essays will be judged on creativity and originality.  The Sailfish Striders reserves the right not to award one or more scholarships if no qualified essays are received. 

Winners will have one year to provide a student id number and name and address of school's financial aid department.  Scholarship funds will be mailed directly to the school.  If the winner does not provide this information within one year of notification of award, then the scholarship is waived. 

Students do not have to be Sailfish Strider club members to apply but must attend school, public or private, in Martin or St. Lucie counties.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure that acceptance of the scholarship will not affect any type of other scholarship, financial aid, or athletic eligibility.

Deadline to apply is March 16, 2012. All entries must be submitted by email attachment to sailfishstriders@gmail.com.  In the body of the email, please put your name and contact information (do not put that information on the attachment).  Please email sailfishstriders@gmail.com with any questions.
