Sachem Swim Club: Coach Dugan's JR/Adv Corner

This Past Weekend:

Unfortunately our home meet was cancelled this past weekend and I know this was a big disappointment to all of our swimmers. However in the end the weekend ended up being very successful for some of our Sachem Swimmers. A handful of our swimmers that were close to cut times had the opportunity to swim in either the Condors meet at Felix Fiesta or the Patriot meet at Lehman College. We had some AMAZING swims!! Congrats to everyone you competed, you guys did amazing.

It’s been a great long course season for many of our swimmers and we are coming down the very end. Keep up the hard work and keep attending practice every day!  Last day of practice for all swimmers not attending JOs/Zones/or Girls Varsity swimmers is Thursday July 26^th. That gives us only 2 more weeks of practice so keep coming and working hard so we are ready to start back up on the right foot in September!!!

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed a few days away from the pool. I expect everyone to be back at practice tonight rested and ready to go. We have had an impressive start to our Long Course Season so far. However before we know it the season will be over so each practice and meet is so Important. Keep up the hard work and remember to reach your goals you need to put the work in.

KEEP UP THE HARD WORK EVERYONE!! Remember its important for each one of you to have your OWN personal goals that you work towards throughout the season. These goals dont have to be time related all the time. Some goals you might consider: Attending practice a minimum of 4 times a week, working on turns at practice, getting to practice 10-15 minutes early to stretch, lead your lane at practice, dont sit out at practice....etc As you can see there are all different types of goals and its important for you to not only set goals but keep updating them as you go.

I know this time of year can get very busy with the end of the school year winding down as well. It is important to remember to get your practices in and make sure you are getting everything out of the practices you attend. Keep up the good work!!!

What an amazing first long course meet for many of our Sachem Swimmers this weekend!! I was unable to attend the meet but was excited to get so many good reports throughout the weekend. It’s crazy to think we have already started the long course season, but before you know it will all be over. Each summer meet is very important because there are limited chances to qualify for our championship meets...So be ready to swim FAST!!!

Here are some Highlights from this weekend from the Junior/Advanced Swimmers:

Jessica Freund qualified for the 2012 Eastern Zone Long Course meet in the 50 Breast, 100 Breast and 50 Free!!! This is a huge accomplishment at the 1st long course meet of the season. Jessica also qualified for JOs in the 200 Free, 50 Fly, 100 Free and 200 IM. Great Job Jessica! Jessica also qualified for Senior Mets in the 100 breast!!!Keep up the hard work and hopefully pick up even more Zone Events and Senior Mets Events!

Kianna Papele qualified for the 2012 Eastern Zone Long Course meet in the 50 Free!! Again another great accomplishment for the 1st long course meet of the season. Kianna also qualified for JOs in the 100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 IM, 100 Breast and 100 Free. Great Job Kianna! Kianna was very close to the zone time in the 100 fly and 100 free and hopefully will also be picking up some more zone events this summer!!! Kianna also qualified for Senior Mets in the 50 Free!!!

So many swimmers had many personal bests and an overall great meet! Remember it’s not just coming to practice that helps you improve, it’s working hard and also working on technique while you are there that will make the difference. With the summer months right around the corner I know sometimes we lose focus on working hard and coming to practice each day. You need to stay focused and remember that this season will fly by.

Again Coach Heather and I could not be more proud of ALL the Junior/Advanced swimmers this year! Many of you made leaps and bounds through the season and your hard work really paid off. Keep it up and remember you get the month of August off, so don’t disappear till then!!!!!

What an exciting weekend for the whole Sachem Swim Club!! It was a long and draining weekend, but filled with some great swims. Overall the Club took 7^th place and many swimmers from the Juniors/Advanced group had an AMAZING WEEKEND!!

 Let me congratulate all of the Sachem Swimmers who competed this weekend. It was exciting to see so many great swims in our home pools.
