Raritan Valley National Adult Baseball Association: My Site News: DIVISION FINALS AND CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GAMES ONE

Sunday, September 20

The Division Champs were finally decided on Friday and Saturday. While the Paterson Phillies secured the North last Sunday, the other three divisions were not yet decided. The Middlesex Pirates edged out the Edison Cubs in a ten inning classic 8-7 on Friday night to claim the East title. Saturday saw the South Amboy Pitbulls sweep two from the BBQ Outlaws 7-0, 2-0 and that's how the West was Won. Then the NJ Bears outlasted the Somerville Giants 8-4 Saturday evening to take the South crown.

All this commotion set up our Championship contenders: Pitbulls and Pirates for the A League and Phillies versus Bears for the AA Title.

Chris Bartz nothched a game one win for the Bears. After his defense spotted the Phils a 3-0 lead in the first, Bartz held the Phils until the seventh, while the Bear offense put up a five spot in the second and added four more in the fourth. Brian Kelly added a two run homer in the fifth and the score stood at 11-3. The Phillies came back with four of their own in the seventh, but the Bears answered back with two in the bottom of the frame for the 13-7 final.

In the A League contest, the Pitbulls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, aided by a couple of errors on the corners. It remained 2-0 into the third. More details on this game will follow, but the Pitbulls took the opener 7-4.
