ITS PITBULLS IN TWO!
After six years of hard work and determination, the South Amboy Pitbulls are the 2009 A-League champions!
Facing their former division rivals from last year, the South Amboy Pitbulls took on the Middlesex Pirates in the championship series.
In game 1 at the Lakewood Blueclaws stadium, the Pitbulls were focused and ready to play. ThePitbulls jumped out to an early lead, plating 2 in the first inning behind the bats of Erik Kutz and Chris Blashfield. The Pirates battled back scoring 2 in the fifth to tie the game. The Pitbulls scored another in the sixth, making the score 3-2. The Pirates then put up 2 runs to go up 4-3, but the dawgs battled right back and tied the game up in the seventh, 4-4. After the Pirates went down 1,2,3 in the seventh, the dawgs put up 2 in the eighth to go up 6-4. Then in the ninth, thePitbulls brought in another run for insurance and Erik Kutz closed the show. Final score: Pitbulls 7, Pirates 4.
After a few technical difficulties, the series finally resumed with the two of the league’s best pitchers on the mound - Jesse Campinelli for the Pitbulls, and Mike Kolesar for the Pirates. The Pirates scored 1 in the first inning to take an early lead, but in the bottom of the inning, the dawgs sent 9 to the plate, bringing in 3 runs, making the score 3-1, Pitbulls. The Pirates put up 1 in the third, narrowing the gap to 3-2. The Pitbulls battled right back scoring 1 in the fourth to go up 4-2. Jesse Campinelli went on to strike out 5 Pirates in a row, but gave up one run in the sixth to bring the score to 4-3. The score remained the same until the eighth inning when the Pitbulls scored an insurance run to go up 5-3 for the final score andfor the Pitbulls to take the league championship title.
