Third Time a Charm for Clippers

In their third quest for a league championship, the NJ Clippers finally brought home a trophy. Ira Tilton fired a complete game four hitter as the Clippers bested the Paterson Phillies 8-2 to complete a two game sweep in this best of three series.

Three of those four hits came in the first inning however, and the Phillies held a 2-1 lead through three innings. The Clippers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Brian Kelly led off with a single, then stole second and later, third, before Paul Crivello knocked him in with an rbi single. But the Phils answered back in the bottom of the frame with three consecutive singles to open the inning. Hector Espinal's rbi single brought home the first run and Jason Smith's rbi groundout plated the second run.

In the fourth, the Clippers burst out with seven runs on eight hits. Dante Harvey's one-out, two run double put the Clippers in front to stay. They scored five more runs in the inning keyed by another two run double - this one off the bat of Crivello. After the fourth, neither team would score again. Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings.
