2011 is come and done. W nowe look forward to the 2012 season. The 2012 season is a big one for the RVNABA, as we will crown our 20th champions. This says a lot about the league, and the front office. With that being said, the league is looking for its 20th season to be its best to date. There are lots of things on the boards to do list this off season, and has already started to address some of them. Long time league President, and NABA Hall of Famer Matt Dosch has made a front office move to help the league move forward in 2012. He has officially appointed 10 year league veteran Chris Maynard Director of Baseball Operations. Dosch and Maynard have gotten together and are starting to piece together the upcoming season which will include some perks for teams in the league and its players. Stay tuned for more announcements. Once again we salute our 2011 Champs AA: Somerville Giants, A: South Amboy Pitbulls, and Fall: Bulldogs.

A Few Items:It is a league rule that all starters and eligible substitutes be listed on your lineup card. They are to be listed by first initial, last name and uniform number. They should also be able to identify themselves with a legal document (I.e. driver’s license) if their identity is questioned.
And while it is up to each individual manager whether he will challenge any player(s) on an opposing team, he is within his rights to do so. So managers need to be vigilant. If you don’t like the rule, it can be changed by league vote, but not in mid-season.
Protests:
To properly lodge a protest other than an ineligible player protest, the protest needs to be officially acknowledged by the umpires and opposing manager immediately after the play in question takes place and before the next pitch is thrown. Protests should only be made when questioning the implementation or interpretation of a rule, or lack thereof and they should be made in a quiet and professional manner. The protest should be duly noted in the official scorebook. Only if an umpire is unwilling to acknowledge a protest, should the league president be notified.
Eligibility protests - Identity: Questioning a player’s identity must be done at the field. Example: Lineup card says player is J. Smith and you believe he is not. Notify the umpire and opposing manager that J. Smith needs to produce identification. If he cannot, he is not allowed to play.
Eligibility protests – an opposing manager has until 24 hours after the completion of his game to lodge a protest for a team using an ineligible player; ineligible means the player in question has either not registered or not paid his player fee to the league. The eligibility list sent to managers before games is a good indication of who is eligible but it is not the last word since it is possible for a player to register and pay online right up until game time, and because a player’s payment or paper registration might not be recorded right away.
And another thing: It is a violation of league policy to do soft toss against the fences at your field. While we’ve been good about this, a reminder never hurts. If you want to have soft toss, buy a net designed for it. Violation of this policy could mean expulsion and/or forfeiture of games.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Kearny White Sox will be playing for the Fall Ball Title. And they will be facing their fourth opponent. This year it will be the Bulldogs, a new addition to the league.
After postng 1-win seasons in 2006 and 2007, the Sox broke out in 2008 with a 7-3 record before besting the Liberty Athletics in the final. They returned to the 'ship in 2009, only to have the Edison Cubs (Blue Ducks) prevent their repeat. But last year the Sox grabbed the trophy back with a thrilling 14 inning win over the Senators, so now they will attempt the repeat when they meet the Bulldogs next week.
Yesterday the Bulldogs prevented a 2009 rematch when they defeated the Blue Ducks 8-2. Like the Sox, who have never played an RVNABA Spring/Summer season, the Bulldogs only joined us this Fall, and they are looking to make their inaugural season a championship one.
