Five Goals for the Mites Mud Cats Baseball Team

As coaches of a very young aged baseball team, we will keep things simple. Here are the five goals we will try our best to teach the kids.

1. Learn the basics. Run the bases in the right direction. Runners must touch the bases. How to record outs (catch in air, throw to first or tag runners.) Running past first base. Three outs constitute an inning.

2. Throwing mechanics. Turn body so front shoulder points toward target. Keep elbow above the shoulder. Step toward target with nonthrowing foot and release ball.

3. Tracking. Follow the ball with the eyes into the glove. Use two hands to catch ball. Try to catch ball out in front of the body.

4. Hitting. How to hold and swing the bat. Batting safety (only batter has bat, no throwing bats after hitting, always wear helmet.) Hitting softly tossed balls.

5. Learning positional play. If the ball is hit to your buddy, let him field it.
