When are driver's test given at the Hughes Center?
The State Police administer the driver's test at the Hughes Center on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The written test is given at 8:00am and the driving portion of the test is given at 1:00pm. Please call 479-754-3096 if you have any questions.

Where can I obtain a driver's manual?
Driver's manuals are available at the Hughes Center located at 1000 East Parkway and the Revenue Department located at 105 South Rochester. You may also view or download the manual from the Arkansas State Police's website: www.asp.state.ar.us. The manual is under public services - driver licensing & examination. Please contact the State Police at 479-754-3096 if you have any questions.

How do I get information about the driver's test?
The driver's test is administer by the Arkansas State Police. The phone number is 479-754-3096.

When are the AARP at the Hughes Center to help with taxes?
The Arkansas Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are at the Hughes Center to assist people with filing their federal and state taxes beginning in February and ending the middle of April. Days of operation are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the hours are from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The AARP is a volunteer group that assist many people each year with free e-filing. Please visit them at the Hughes Center if you have any questions.

When does Hickey Pool open?
The pool opens each year on Memorial Day.

What is the phone number to Hickey Pool?
The phone number is 968-6612.

Where can I purchase a season pass to Hickey Pool?
You may purchase a season pass at the Hughes Community Center located at 1000 East Parkway during the office hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Prices are located under the swimming pool section on this site.

How do I reserve Hickey Pool for a private party?
The department begins reserving the pool for private parties on the first working day in May. Pool reservations may be made in one-hour increments from 7:30 - 10:30 pm. Reservations may be made at the Hughes Center (1000 East Parkway) during business hours. (7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday) Since a rental fee is required to hold a date, no reservations can be made over the phone. There are limited dates available for pool parties. The pool has an hourly rental fee of $30 per hour. There will be a $10 charge per hour for lifeguards.

How do I reserve a pavilion at a city park?
To reserve a pavilion you must stop by the Parks Department office located in the Hughes Community Center at 1000 East Parkway to complete a rental form and pay the rental fee. Fees are $35 for half days (8:00am to 3:00pm) or $50 for all day (8:00am to 10:00pm). If not reserved, pavilions may be used free of charge on a first come first serve basis.

Where are the city pavilions located?
The city currently has seven pavilions. They are located in the following parks:
City Park - 915 East B Street
Hickey Park - 1312 East 16th Street
James School Park - 807 West 4th Place
Pleasant View Park - 3595 North Arkansas Ave.
Sequoyah Park - 1805 West 12th Street
Shiloh Park - 3405 North Arkansas Avenue
Washburn Park - 1185 Lakefront Drive
There are two pavilions located in Hickey Park. The pavilion at Washburn Park is the most rented pavilion.


Where do I call to reserve a pavilion at Old Post Park?
Old Post Park is operated by the Corps of Engineers and the number to call to reserve a pavilion is 968-7962.

How do I reserve a practice field?
Reservations for practice fields at Shiloh Park and Pleasant View Park are taken at the Hughes Center during the office hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. The department begins taking reservations each year as soon as the weather permits. The current fee is $10 for a 90 minute practice. Reservations are taken for the current week and for the following week. You may book only one practice per week.

When do I register a team for softball? volleyball?
The department usually registers summer softball teams in March, fall softball teams in July and volleyball teams the end of January. Dates for the organizational meeting and registration are posted on the calendar section of this site.

What if I do not have a team but still want to play?
You may request that your name and phone number be placed on a "orphans list". The list is posted in the Hughes Center office where coaches may look when they need a player.

How do I find out if my ball game is rained out?
The Boys & Girls Club, Church League, City League, and RYBA notify the local radio stations once a decision has been made to cancel games.
If the game is a city leaque or an industrial leaque game the information is also available after 4:00pm by calling 890-PARK (7275).
If the game is a RYBA game, the information is also available by calling 968-1372. RYBA also e-mails the parents who have submitted an e-mail address.


How do I join the weight room located in the Hughes Center?
To join the weight room you must complete a membership form and pay the monthly fee of $15. There are no signup fees or contracts. Application for membership must be done during the office hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday at the Hughes Center. Age requirements are as follows:
14 & 15 year olds must have a parent to work out with them and a signed underage waiver.
16 & 17 year olds must have a signed underage waiver.
There are no restrictions for anyone 18 or older. Only members are allowed into the weight room.
