Little Dawgs win Sub-Division III
Ocean View goes down 11-0 in 5 innings. The Rancho 9-10 Dawgs are in the State Championship for the second year in a row. Details to follow. Next game is Saturday, 8/1, 7:00 P.M. at Newmark Little League. Download the bracket and directions on the handout page.

Oh-oh Doctor!!
The Dawgs needed a couple extra innings to prolong the tournament.  In 8 innings, the Little Dawgs hung a 4-3 loss on the previously unbeaten Ocean View team.  Again, Matt Staker provided a stellar performance on the bump - backed up by some tenacious defense.  In the 8th inning, Nick Allen coaxed a walked.  With two outs, Carsen Baker ran for his life and beat out an infield hit advancing Nick to third.  Then Lewis Dirkes calmly stepped in and lined a single to bring the winning run home.  Dawgs Win!  Dawgs Win!  On to the "If Game" tomorrow night.

It's Tough to Keep a Good Dawg Down.
The Little Dawgs developed short term memory and forgot about yesterday's hick-up to go out and double up on Rancho Santa Fe 12-6.  JP Poe provided 4 2/3 innings of rock solid pitching.  Coach Tom leaned on the a bullpen of Nick Allen, Casey O'Sullivan and Lucas Plein to close out RSF and advance to the Championship on Wednesday.

 A Chink in the Armor!
OMG!  The Little Dawgs suffered their first set-back this All Star season in a 2-0 loss to a powerful Ocean View team.  This pushed the Dawgs into the losers bracket for the first time where they will face Rancho Sante Fe - a team that was dominated by the Dawgs in an earlier match up.

Little Dawgs Continue on the Train.
The 9-10s continue their winning ways with a 7-0 voctory over Vineyard.  Matt Staker pitched the game of the year throwing a complete game and needing only 56 pitches to shut down 'em down.  A solid defense backed him up and again, complete line-up hitting were keys to the Dawgs victory.

Little Dawgs Start Sub-Division with a Win!
The Little Dawgs grabbed a win over Rancho Santa Fe 15-3.  Brock Mosier led the Dawgs with a stellar pitching performance befuddeling the RSF hitters.  The Dawgs hit up and down the line-up never allowing RSF in the game.

9-10's v Park View
Sure it was 110° degrees in Calexico, but at least it was humid with no breeze. But that didn't slow down Brock Mosier who pitched a complete 5 inning game. Mosier only gave up 3 hits, 2 of them being a 1 run home run, the other a 2 run home run. He had no walks, struck out 4 and needed only 56 pitches on the night. Mosier also had a great night at the plate with 2 singles, a double, and 3 RBIs. Lewis Dirkes had a single, 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Matt Staker had a double with 2 RBI's. Carson Baker chipped in 2 RBIs on a single. Connor Chamberlain, Zack Hogueisson and Justin Poe also singled as the Little Dawgs batted around in the 2nd and 5th inning. This one ends early with a final of 13-3. The Little Dawgs are Section 7 Champions for the 2nd year in a row. On to San Bernadino and Subdivision 3.

10-11's v Sweetwater Valley
In the top of the second, SV scored three unearned runs after a walk and two errors. In the bottom of the 2nd, Bryce McBride picked up the 1st RBI of the game scoring Drew Andersen from 3rd on a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the third, Jared Tardiff went deep scoring Cole Henderson and tying the score. Andersen, backed by solid defense, set Sweetwater down 1-2-3 in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Dawgs entered the 6th tied 3-3. Andersen was tiring on the mound and after giving up a single and double, he loaded the bases on an intentional walk and then Sweetwater scored on a hit batsman. Bases loaded - no outs is a tough situation, but Cole Henderson in relief got 3 straight K's to end the threat. In the bottom of the sixth, the bottom of the order for Rancho came up clutch yet again with Cole Hopkins walking and Bryce McBride singling. Ryan Burke dropped a perfect bunt and in their haste, Sweetwater threw the ball away scoring Hopkins and tying the score. Jake Armijo singled to load the bases with no outs, but in a humbling case of deja vu, Rancho was unable to score. In the top of the 7th, Sweetwater jumped ahead 4-5 on a double and a single, but Rancho was not going to go down easily. Once again, the Dawgs loaded the bases, and Ryan Burke crushed the ball - right to the third baseman who stepped on the bag to end the Dawgs comeback. This was the first Rancho 10-11 team to ever win district and all these boys and their coaches deserve a huge round of applause for an outstanding season finishing runner-up in Section 7. The 10-11 Dawgs were Drew Andersen (C), Jake Armijo, Cade Baker, Ryan Burke, Alex France, Cole Henderson, Cole Hopkins, David Todd Jeremiah, Bryce McBride, Jacob Paape, Andrew Shebloski, Spencer Simms, Jared Tardiff, Manager Steve Shebloski, Coach Tommy Armijo and Coach Pat Healey

9-10's v Imperial
The little Dawgs played another game in very hot conditions.  It was 110° at 7:00 P.M. with a new twist; a steady hot breeze blew threw Calexico.  Justin Poe pitched 2 and 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 2 hits, 6 walks, and 4 strike-outs. Nick Allen came in to pitch and finished the 3rd, 4th, and started the 5th; he gave up 2 runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and had 5 strike-outs.  Brock Mosier closed out the 5th and 6th innings on 15 pitches; he had 2 strike-outs, and gave up a bloop single. The offense was led by Nick Allen who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a BIG grand slam in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Dawgs up 9-5.  Brock Mosier was 2 for 4 with a triple, a single and an RBI. Lucas Plein had an RBI single. Matt Staker had 2 RBIs and Caleb St. Clair singled and scored a run in the bottom of the 5th.  With all that scoring, the Dawgs still left 9 men on base and were a couple hits away from busting this one wide open. The Little Dawg defense was back after Sunday's rough outing.  Connor Chamberlain made an unbelievable catch in right center, running full speed and diving to take away a lead off double in the top of the 4th to take the wind out of the sails of Imperial.  Carson Baker had a great game behind the plate in very tough conditions. Final score 12-7.  The little Dawgs get a much needed day off Tuesday and play in the Championship game on Wednesday night.

10-11's v Imperial
In a rematch of Rancho's most frustrating loss of the tourny, in the top of the first, Andrew Shebloski singled, Cole Henderson doubled and Jared Tardiff ground out for the first RBI of the game. Tardiff mowed Imperial down for the first three innings yielding only one base runner on a hit batter. He was assisted in the 1st inning by a diving sliding catch by Henderson in foul territory. In the fourth, Henderson doubled and Tardiff followed with a single to score him. With 2 outs, Spencer Simms and Alex France each singled to load the bases and Bryce McBride got an RBI single to put the Dawgs ahead 3-0. In the fourth, Tardiff was pulled on pitch count and Shebloski came in to pitch. Two walks loaded the bases and a single up the middle scored one, but Ryan Burke to Drew Andersen to Jacob Armijo (8-6-2) nailed the second base runner at the plate to end the inning. In the top of the fifth, Shebloski doubled and Henderson hit a booming home run off the top of the batter's eye in center field. Tardiff and Andersen followed with back-to-back doubles but were unable to capitalize as Imperial made a great play at the plate and then turned a double play on a liner to first. In the fifth, Shebloski got two strikeouts, but he also loaded the bases on 2 walks and a hit batter. A wild pitch scored one putting the score at 5-2. Andersen came in to get the final out on a liner to short. In the bottom of the sixth, Andersen walked the first batter, struck out the second and then gave up a line drive that Tardiff caught easily and then turned the double play by catching the runner off of first. The Dawgs head to the championship.

11-12's v Lemon Grove
Facing elimination, the Dawgs came out loose and ready to play in a rematch against Lemon Grove. Jake Bassette started at pitcher and continued his dominance during the Section tournament. He pitched 4 strong innings, striking out five and only giving up one earned run, but tired after giving a great effort for the second time in 3 days. The Dawgs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded ground rule double to right center by Braden LeValley. Great defense saved a run in the top of the second. With two outs and a Lemon Grove runner on second, Jackson Gladu made a diving catch off the grass on a short popup into left for the third out. Rancho added two more in the third when Domenic Donato scored on a passed ball and Sean McGrane scored on a ground out. Lemon Grove picked up a run in the fourth to make it 4-1 after 4. Jackson Gladu pitched well in the fifth although an error allowed Lemon Grove to score an unearned run, making it 4-2. In the bottom of the fifth, the Dawgs added 3 more runs on an RBI single by LeValley, his fourth RBI of the game, and a two-run homer to center by Kris Cooper and led 7-2. The top of the sixth became Murphy’s law where anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Lemon Grove scored seven runs to take a 9-7 lead. But Rancho didn’t give up. Jake Bassette led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to make it a one run game. The Dawgs managed to get runners to first and third with two down but couldn’t push the tying run across and were eliminated.
The 11-12’s won a total of eight games during the tournament playing as a team. For Jake Bassette, Brent Keaton, Jackson Gladu, Braden LeValley, Aaron Diaz, Austin Rogers, Austin Ellery, Jared Sullivan, Kris Cooper, Kendal Schneider, Nate Moneda and Sean McGrane, this was the final game of their Little League careers.  They represented Rancho San Diego well throughout the tournament and should be proud of not only their accomplishments but of the sportsmanship and character they displayed during their wins and losses.

9-10's v Twin Hills
Matt Staker pitched 4+ strong innings, but not surprisingly, the defense broke down a bit in the 107° heat with 5 errors including 3 in a row in the top of the sixth.  Justin Poe came in for an inning (20 pitches) and then Casey O'Sullivan came in with bases loaded in top of the 6th and shut them down including a tag out at home on a passed ball. Down 2-1 with the Dawgs coming to bat in the bottom on the 6th, Connor Chamberlain led off with a triple in the right-center gap.  Two walks loaded the bases and with the infield drawn in - and 5 infielders - Carson Baker singled to tie the game and then Matt Staker singled up the middle to score the winning run for the walk off 3-2 win. The Dawgs strand 12 men on base as Twin Hills played great outfield defense robbing the boys of 2 doubles all with 2 outs and runners in scoring position.

11-12's v Parkview
In the second inning, Parkview uses 2 home runs to jump ahead 0-4 and then adds another in the third on 2 hits and a walk. The Dawgs scratch across a run without a hit in the bottom of the third to get rid of the zero on the board. Kris Cooper finally gets the Dawgs their first hit in the 4th, but there will be only one more by Dom Donato as Parkview shuts down the Dawgs. Parkview adds 4 more runs in the sixth to finish off Rancho 9-1.

10-11's v Spring Valley
The Dawgs looked like they came to play as Jacob Armijo led off with a single and was promptly brought home by Andrew Shebloski's RBI double who was in turn knocked in by Drew Andersen's RBI single as the Dawgs jumped ahead 2-0.  Jared Tardiff looked a little shaky in the first putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with only one out, but he came out of the inning unscathed. The Dawgs went meekly in the second and left the bases loaded in the 3rd. In the bottom of the third, Spring Valley loaded the bases and got one run on a hit batsmen and 3 more on a bases clearing double off of reliever Cade Baker. The Dawgs were down 2-4 and went quietly in the 4th and 5th innings. Drew Andersen came in to pitch the fifth innning and was forced to get 4 outs as the umpire missed a routine force play at second. The Dawgs manager managed to stay in the game, but the Dawgs were down 2-5 and the bottom of the order was due up. But Ryan Burke wanted to play tomorrow and crushed a pitch over the left field fence to wake the team. Bryce McBride single and Cole Hopkins doubled to put the runs in place. Jacob Armijo got a single to put the Dawgs down 4-5 with the tying run on third. Cole Hendersen brought in the tying and go ahead run on a double, Tardiff singled Henderson in, then Drew Andersen drove the final nail in the coffin with the second bomb of the inning. The Dawgs were up 9-5.
Andersen and Shebloski struck out the side in the 6th and Dawgs win it the hard way.

11-12's vs Lemon Grove
Lemon Grove won the coin toss and took visitors, hoping to get on top early. Following a single by Lemon Grove on the first pitch of the game, the Dawgs turned a grounder into a double play and Jake Bassette completed the inning on 3 pitches. Then the Dawgs scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first on 9 hits, Domenic Donato (2 doubles) and Brent Keaton (2 singles) picked up 2 hits in the inning. In the second, Donato capped a 3 for 3 day with a grand slam to make it 15-0 after two. Sean McGrane, Kris Cooper, and Jared Sullivan had perfect days at the plate and Braden LeValley collected 2 hits. Bassette completed all 4 innings, giving up 2 hits. Final score was 17-1.

10-11's v Imperial
Rancho jumped to a 1-0 lead on an Andrew Shebloski's solo shot and that's were it stayed till the bottom of the third when 3 walks, two hits and 2 errors gave Imperial 4 runs. Rancho got two back in the fourth on a two run shot by Drew Andersen. Imperial went meekly in the 4th, but in the fifth loaded the bases. Andersen, piching in relief, struck out three, but Imperial snuck 2 runs across on pitches in the dirt. In the top of the sixth, Rancho got a quick run in with back-to-back doubles by Cade Baker and Ryan Burke, but that is where it ended 4-6.

District 41 Results

11-12's vs Rios
Rios came out red hot with 3 straight singles off starter Brent Keaton to jump ahead 0-1 in the first until Rancho's defense turned a pretty double play to end the threat. In the bottom of the first, Jake Bassette walked and was sent home on a double by Jackson Gladu tying the score. Both teams came up empty in the second, but in the third, Rios threatened again with a walk, a single and a ground rule double to jump ahead 1-2. With runners at second at third and 2 outs, Austin Ellery made a spectacular running, diving catch in right field to save two sure runs. The bottom of the 3rd saw Bassette lead off with a double and then quickly score on Dom Donato's RBI single to tie the score again. Gladu pick up his second and third RBI of the night on a monster home run over two fences and into the quarry. Three walks lead off the top of the third and Keaton was replaced by Gladu on the mound. Two singles later, the Rios boys were back on top 4-5. The inning would have been much worse if the Dawgs defense had not thrown out 2 Rios base runners. In the bottom of the 4th, the Dawgs showed they had an answer for everything the Rios boys could muster. With 2 outs, Bassette slammed a double and then advanced and scored on 2 wild pitches tying the game yet again. In the the fifth, fans got to see even more stellar outfield defense as it was Austin Roger's turn to make a diving catch in right field as Rios came up empty again. In the bottom of the fifth, the Dawgs loaded the bases and Ellery picked up the first RBI of the frame on a hard single through the infield. Bassette slammed his 3rd double of the night to pick up 2 RBIs and Keaton picked up one more insurance run with his RBI single. The Dawgs entered the 6th with a comfortable lead, but Rios, as befits a quality baseball team, was not going down meekly. The Rios boys singled, walked and doubled to make the score 9-6 and then another single drove in 2 runs to put the go ahead run at the plate. Bassette came in to pitch and loaded the bases with a single and hit batsman. But Bassette bore down and got the final out with a check swing strike out to win the championship. The Big Dawgs win the third Rancho banner of the week with a 9-8 nailbiter over an excellent Rios Canyon team.

10-11's v CDO
CDO is a team that can hit so when they jumped ahead 0-1 in the first, Rancho broke into a small sweat. But the Dawgs can hit as well and answered with 4 runs in the first with RBI’s by Cole Henderson and Ryan Burke. In the top of the second, the Dawgs broke into a bigger sweat when after Jared Tardiff got 2 quick outs, the CDO boys got 4 runs on 3 walks, 2 hits and 2 errors. Tardiff ended the bleeding with a strike out, but the Dawgs were down 4-5. Jacob Paape led off the 2nd with a double and Jake Armijo quickly singled him in. Drew Andersen hit a bases loaded ground rule double to score 2 more and Cade Baker got an RBI on a fielders choice as the Dawgs pulled ahead 8-5. Tardiff only faced four batters in the top of the third. In the bottom half, Bryce McBride was hit by a pitch and Alex France followed with a single to lead off the inning, but CDO got two quick outs. Up came Henderson and out went the ball leaving the Dawgs up 11-5. After Tardiff walked and Andersen hit his second ground rule double, Cade Baker singled in them both to put the Dawgs up 13-5. As Tardiff tired in the 4th inning, CDO kept fighting back, picking up two runs, but Andersen came on to get the final two outs. In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Andrew Shebloski came up big with a two run home run to put the Dawgs up 15-7. Henderson followed that with a solo shot. Tardiff and Andersen both singled and then Baker got his 4th RBI of the night with a walk off single. The final was 17-7 and Rancho San Diego wins its first ever 10-11 District pennant.

11-12's vs Rios
Rios jumped ahead in the 1st with a 2 out rally getting 2 runs in and then getting 2 more runs in the 3rd on a home run. Rancho finally wakes up in the bottom of the third loading the bases on 3 straight singles. Dom Donato cleared the bases on a double but got thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple. Austin Ellery doubles in Brent Keaton to tie the game and then Sean McGrane puts the Dawgs ahead with a 2 run shot to dead center. In the fifth, Rios scores four to jump ahead 8-6, but the Dawgs get one of those back in the bottom half. A solo shot in the top of the sixth puts Rios up 9-7 and that's where it ended as Dawgs were unable to rally in the sixth. Donato started and pitched 4 and a third with 8Ks and 7 hits allowing 8 runs. Aaron Diaz followed throwing 1 and two thirds with 2 Ks, 1 hit and 1 run. Jake Bassette was 2-4 with a double, Aaron Diaz was 2 for 3 with 2 singles, McGrane was 1 for 2 with the 2-run HR and Austin Rodgers was 3 for 3 with 3 singles.

10-11's v CDO
The Dawgs brought the bats, but the pitching just wasn't there this night. After falling behind early 0-3, the Dawgs came back to tie it with Cole Henderson's 2 run homer in the first and Henderson's bases loaded walk in the 2nd. CDO jumped ahead in the top of the third 3-4, but Cole Hopkin's bases loaded double scored three to put the Dawgs ahead 6-4. The 3rd ended with the Dawgs up 7-4. The top of the 4th saw CDO go down quickly and in the bottom of the 4th, Jared Tardiff and Drew Andersen hit another set of back-to-back homers to put the Dawgs up 9-4. The top of the fifth proved to be the Dawgs undoing. One hit batsman, one error, five walks and six hits including a grand slam put CDO ahead 13-9. The Dawgs got one back in the fifth, but CDO got 2 in the 6th. Ryan Burke finished up the scoring for the Dawgs with his first ever Home Run. Final Score 15-11. Winner takes all tomorrow night.

The top of the line-up woke late in the game with Andrew Shebloski and Jacob Armijo each collecting 2 singles.
