The Oaks get past the Angels 8-3 in this one game playoff. Billy(4 guys)Soich pitched a great game for the Angels. Angels had the lead 2-0 going into the 4th when the Oaks scored 3 runs to go up 3-2. In the top of the 6th the Angels had men on 2nd & 3rd with one out when Jonny F. knocked in both runs, but the Oaks appealed that the Angels base runner missed third base and the umpire bought it & called him out so the score was 4-3 instead of 4-4. In the bottom of the 6th the Oaks broke it open with 4 more runs to make it 8-3. All Angel batters hit the ball hard. My hats off to the Angels for playing hard and never giving up.
I would like to say to the Angels team it was great playing with you guys, and even though we had a tough season, you guys played hard and did the best you could. My special thanks goes out to the guys who came out game after game, moved their work schedules around, blew off family functions just to play baseball. THAT'S DEDICATION! - MAD LOVE FOR YA.

Brewers 11 Pirates 10
The lights went out on the Pirates Monday night at Pleasantdale Park, literally. With the tying run on base and 2 out in the last inning, the lights went out and the Pirates were left holding the bag. Dave Kasper was the hard luck loser for the Pirates, as he was the victim of some shoddy fielding and some very poor baserunning. But give credit to the Brew Crew here as they deserved this one. Norm Johnson's ball club is much improved over last year's team. Rick Wayland pitched 4 solid innings for the Brewers to pick up the win and Ken Seeley hurled 2 innings to get the save. The Pirates were led by former Brewer, Steve Parlick who had 2 hits and Tom Miller, Frank Murphy, and Frank Coci who had 2 RBI's each. For all the Frank Coci fans out there this game did not happen without a cost as he severely pulled his calf muscle late in the contest. His son Johnny, who plays for the vaunted Mt. Carmel Caravan Baseball team will have to do some good doctoring to keep the old man from spending considerable time on the disabled list. Meanwhile, the Buckos are reeling and the Brewers are coming Tra-La-La-La.
Pirates 9 D-Backs 1 - Suspended Game
This game was halted in the top of the fourth inning because of the dazzling display of lightning that was all around the area of Pleasantdale Park. The Pirates were winning at the time 9-1. The Diamondbacks, well known for their late inning comebacks, had 2 runners on and 1 out in the top of the fourth when play was stopped. The Pirates knocked out starting pitcher and longtime nemesis Bobby Buffa with a hitting display reminiscent of the weather. Steve Parlick has 2 hits and 2 RBI's so far and Tom Miller, Sam Nicolosi, and Kevin Hodgson also have 2 hits apiece. Dominick Catinella has tossed 3 1/3 strong innings so far. This game will be continued at a later date.

Pirates 10 A's 2
The Pirates beat the A's Friday night at Pleasantdale Park by a score of 10-2 in a game that was shortened by the weather. After the A's batted in the top of the fifth to make the game official, both umpires and both teams agreed to get the heck out of there before the start of the impending storm. Sure enough, not 10 minutes after play was stopped, the deluge happened. The rains came down in buckets. Both teams had made it safely to the "Natural" the bar of choice for some cool ones. The Pirates attack was led by Sam Nicolosi who had 3 hits and Rich Budziak who had 2 and Kevin Ahern had a key 2 out 2 RBI single that opened up what was a tight game. Jimmy Kidd threw 2 shutout innings and Henry Gonzales pitched 3 innings to pick up his first win of the season

The Brewers made the game respectable late as they touched up Pirate relievers Kevin Ahern and Dave Kasper for 6 runs. Moe Mullins took the loss for the Brewers

The class clown of Pirates Baseball, Frank Coci, reinjured his torn calf muscle and is probably out for the season. Shiverrrrrrrrr Me Timbers.

Pirates 21 A's 6
The Pirates beat the A's Thursday night at Pleasantdale Park by a score of 21 to 6. Jimmy Elbaor picked up his first win of the season for the Pirates as he tossed 3 solid innings. Kevin Hodgson had 4 hits and 5 RBI's and Billy Fear, Tom Miller, Sam Nicolosi, Frank Murphy, Dave Kasper, and Rich Budziak all had 2 hits for the Buckos. Kevin Ahern and Pete Biondo each threw an inning in relief but both of them were victimized by the erratic play of second basemen Hodgson. As good a night as he had offensively, Hodgson, was just as bad defensively. His two throws to first were closer to Wisconsin than first base at Pleasantdale. Needless to say, the fans that were sitting on the first base side have promised to bring helmets and protective gear for any upcoming Pirate games that Hodgson is at second base.

Pirates 11 A's 10
Last Friday night at Pleasantdale Park the winless A's played spirited Baseball and almost beat the lackluster Pirates. The Pirates had to rally to score 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the A's 11-10. Jimmy Kidd and Jimmy Elbaor both doubled to start the bottom of the seventh to pull the Pirates within 1 and after a fly out, Kevin Hodgson tripled to tie it. The A's then walked the next two hitters intentionally only to have next hitter Bill Battista win it with a walk off walk. Steve Altman threw 4 shutout innings for the Pirates only to see the rest of the Pirate staff fall apart. Henry Gonzales in his second stint on the mound of the night got the win (2-0).
Game Played 7/19/2004 8:00PM
Brewers 13 Pirates 5
The Brewers smashed the Pirates on Monday night at Pleasantdale by a score of 13-5. After scoring 4 runs in the first inning the Pirates should have packed their bags and gone home. The lackadaisical Pirates gave this game away with numerous errors and mental mistakes. The suddenly slumping Pirates received their worst beating ever at the hands of their long time rivals. But give credit where credit is due, the Brewers deserved this one. Dominick Catinella suffered his first loss of the year (5-1) even though he did not give up an earned run. Bob Spooner got the win for the Brewers as he hurled 4 innings and Ken Seeley got the save as he pitched the final 3 innings. The Brewers of Norm Johnson are coming tra la la la.

Hodgson singled and stole second and after the next two men made outs, Bill Battista brought in Hodgson with the tying run and then a couple of batters later Tom Miller drove in
2 more runs with a double to right center. Bill Battista, Jim Elbaor, and Dom Catinella all

got the Buckos going in this game. The Pirates went on to score 7 unanswered runs to beat
the Homestead Brewers 7 to 5 Friday night at Pleasantdale. The Brewers roughed up starter
Dominick Catinella to the tune of 5 runs in the first 3 innings. Then Steve Altman came in to

Pirates 21 Diamond Backs 14
The Pirates outlasted the Berwyn Diamondbacks in a football score of 21 to 14 Monday Night in Brookfield's Jaycee Ehlert Park. The ball was flying off both teams bats and the ball
was bouncing every which way at Ehlert Park because of the rough terrain. Usually a great
place to play ball, on this night the ball was bouncing like it was a super ball. All 14 Pirate
hitters did the job, with Henry Gonzales, Sam Nicolosi, and Steve Altman all having
exceptional nights at the plate. Pete Biondo started but couldn't get out of the 4th inning as
the Diamondbacks rallied from a 13-4 deficit to cut the Pirates lead to 1 at 13-12. Steve
Altman came in and stopped the Diamondbacks somewhat the rest of the way. The Diamondbacks offense was paced by Bobby Buffa, Tony Schlingo, Jim Ruppert, Mark Sena,
Bill Maffy, Clyde Motter, Joe Monari, Dickie Wilson, and Hank Muensterman.
Game Played 8/30/2004 8:00PM
Pirates 12 Brewers 7
The Pirates scored 8 runs in the first inning and then hung on as the Brewers made it interesting at the end. Dominick Catinella threw 4 solid innings, giving up just 2 runs to get
the win. Henry Gonzales did everything else for the Pirates as he made the play of the day
at second base with a lunging back handed stab of a bullet hit up the middle, had a bases
clearing triple, and also pitched the last 2 innings to stop the Brewers when they were rallying. Other than that he didn't do a thing. This was the last game of the regular season for the Pirates. The Homestead Brewers have 2 games left.
