League Information
League meeting Thursday, April 16th. Opening day rosters with waivers are due. Also, the baseballs will be handed out plus the remaining schedule will be handed out.
Just a reminder, no aluminum bats this year, the 21+ will be using the National Roy Hobbs Rules for slotting, the 38+ and 48+ slotted batting order remains the same, you are no longer required to run for the catcher with two out, and most importantly, the lineup card rules are still in effect and must be used.
We are going to try to incorporate modern technology a little more in 2009 for rain outs. When games are rained out, we will still post a message on the rain out hotline and a message on the website, however, we will also post a message on the Roy Hobbs Oak Lawn Twitter site. If you sign up for Twitter and choose to follow Roy Hobbs Oak Lawn, you will receive a text message to your phone notifying you that the game has been rained out. Login to Twitter and search for Roy Hobbs. Choose to follow RoyHobbsOakLawn.
Important Items discussed from previous meetings:
March Meeting (3)
1. The weekday games at Oak Lawn will start at 8pm
2. One of the 21+ teams (Giants) have dropped but there is another team that may end up taking its place.
****UPDATE : Giants are back in, we have 6 teams in the division !
3. All team fees and opening day rosters and waivers are due at the last meeting - April 16. Team failing to pay their team fee in full will not be allowed to play.
February Meeting (2)
1. The 21+ division lost a member: Bulldogs - dropped from league on 2/25.
2. There were a couple of rule changes:A. It is no longer mandatory to run for your catcher when he is on base and there are two out.
B. Games stopped by rain before 5 innings have been played or 4.5 innings if the home team is leading will be treated as a suspended game and the game will resume from the point it was stopped the next time the two teams meet.
C. The 21+ voted to change the courtesy runner rule. They have voted to adopt the National Roy Hobbs rule.
3. Teams requesting that games not be scheduled on specific days or dates should e-mail those requests to rhol@att.net
4. Opening day - weather permitting - should be Sunday, April 19th.
5. The next league meeting will be Thursday, March 19th at 730pm. A substantial amount of the league fee must be turned in at this meeting. Any teams not paying their entire league fee will not be allowed to play any games until the fee is paid in full. NO EXCEPTIONS.
January Meeting (1)
1. As voted on last year, the 21+ division will be a wood bat only league.
2. The playoff format will be modified. All series will be best of three, except the championship. That series will now be the best of five.
3. We are still enrolled in the royhobbs supplementary insurance program, and the cost will be covered in the league entry fee.
4. With the current teams in the division, it looks like we will play a 24 game schedule.
5. Head Umpires were present at the meeting. They discussed a few changes, and how they will be handling the season. It was noted that they are under new management and some ideas / suggestions were tossed around the group. Overall it was said that it will be a good year with quality umpires.
6. It was also said that all teams must bring $1,500 toward league fee's to the next meeting that is scheduled February 19th.

Team Items
1. I must have waivers turned into the league by the last meeting in April. I will be bringing the waivers to the next few practices until we are complete. New members must have a copy of a photo I.D. to be turned in with the waiver.
2. It has been decided to attempt to carry a smaller roster compared to last year. This can only be accomplished if the team reaches a set goal of $750 - $850 in sponsorship money. A few team members and myself have a commitment from four groups that have donated to the 2009 season. At this time (3/19/09) we have $650 toward the goal needed. If anyone else has a possible sponsor, please let me know so that I can give you a copy of a letter that was made to assist in the explanation of sponsor money.
3. If the sponsorship goal is met, the two level player cost structure (full-time starting position players, part-time sub position players, and part-time pitchers only) will remain the same as last year. If we DO NOT meet the goal, we will have to review the cost structure, or possibly add to the roster to facilitate the league fee.
4. Uniforms, and hats will remain the same as last year. It was discussed to utilize an alternate jersey (white) for home games this year. After consideration we feel it best due to the economic woes that affect us all, to attempt this next year instead.
5. All new team members have ordered their jerseys and have been assigned a number of their choice that was available.
6. Check out maddogbats.com if you are interested in purchasing a good bat. I have purchased two so far and will get at least one more before the season starts.
