Key Losses: M Audrey Nonemaker, D Ashley Baker, M Kat Christopher, F Aileen Milde, F Elaina Holden, D Nicole Irving, GK Robin Gerber.
Returning Letterwinners: Sr. GK Melissa Hall, Sr. M Jessica Holmes, Sr. D Danielle Rosatelli, Sr. M/D Amanda Guerci, Sr. M Janel Cleffi, Sr. F Renee Tybus, Sr. F Erica Peschken, Sr. D Grace Crowley, Jr. F Jen Dexter, Sr. D Emily Wilson.

Outlook: Who says they cant repeat? The Gaels lost a lot to graduation but have enough returning players with experience to put up a spirited title defense. Peschken has to stay healthy and a new center midfielder has to step up. After sharing the goal for the last two years, Hall will probably have the net to herself this year.

Roxbury wins to advance to NJSIAA Sectional State Final
(click on headline for game statistics and news reports of game)
The Roxbury Gaels battled both a tough Kearny team and a very strong cross wind this afternoon but eventually broke through to capture a 3-0 victory in the North 1 Group IV State Sectional Semi Final game. Melissa Hall collected her 13th shutout of the season and came up with a number of key saves during a stretch in the second half that Kearny worked a number of scoring opportunities.
This game also marked the return of both Lauren Roe and Katie Jensen. Both juniors have been out for the majority of the season recovering from injury.
With the victory the Gaels (18-2-2) advance to the Sectional State Championship game for the second year in a row. They will host the Randolph Rams who defeated the Montclair Mounties (1-0) in the other Semi Final match this afternoon. The game on Thursday afternoon will be played at Roxbury and will start at 2:00 pm. Last year the Gaels captured the Sectional Championship with a 1-0 win over the Clifton Stallions on their way to a 19-3-3 season.
The Gaels and the Rams have already met twice this season in the Iron Hills Conference play with Roxbury taking both games. The Gaels won the season opener 6-0 at Randolph on September 10th and then followed up with a 4-0 victory on October 6th in a game at Roxbury.
Roxbury closes out its IHC regular season conference play tomorrow in a game vs Morristown. If the Gaels win the finale they will capture at least a share in the Iron Hills Conference - Iron Division Championship.

NJSIAA State Semi-final Group IV preview (Star Ledger)
Group 4 - The best: Roxbury (20-2-2) stumbled out of September with back-to-back losses but hasn't suffered a setback since. The reigning Morris County Tournament champion enters the final phase of the tournament playing its best soccer, with its offense taking cues from Jen Dexter (23 goals) and Erica Peschken (52 career assists) and the defense, which owns 15 shutouts, buoyed by keeper Melissa Hall.
The rest: No goalie in the state has a bigger impact on a match than Kathryn Alario of Watchung Hills. The return of the Tulane-bound senior, who missed the first six games of the year due to injury, bolstered the defense and sparked the team on an improbable march to the North Jersey, Section 2 crown as the eighth and final seed.
Junior forward Jessica Fuccello has made a career of producing big goals for Brick Memorial. In 14 playoff contests over the past three years, Fuccello has 13 goals while developing into a striker who rarely squanders a scoring chance.
Under the direction of attacking midfielder Allie Williams, Lenape has emerged from a grueling schedule prepared to make a charge to the state final for the first time since 2000.
Prediction: Group 4 is perhaps the toughest field of all to handicap. Each team possesses qualities of a state champion. However, preseason favorite Roxbury found its groove in early October and hasn't wavered once. Don't anticipate it doing so now.

Iron Hills Conference title open to Roxbury and Knolls
Just another typical year in the Iron Hills Conference's Iron Division which goes down to the final games to decide a Conference Champion. Recognized as the strongest conference in Morris County and North Jersey and one of the most balanced in the state of NJ, the IHC's Iron Division feature three teams that are still in contention for the crown.
West Morris (11-3 in conference, 16-5 overall) held the edge going into their final regular season game needing a win to clinch the title outright. However, Morris Knolls had other plans and with their 3-1 win yesterday over the Wolfpack the Golden Eagles now share the lead in the conference with our Roxbury Gaels with a 10-2-1 record. Both Knolls and Roxbury each have one conference road game remaining but now control their own destiny.
The Golden Eagles (12-4-1 overall) have a makeup game vs Columbia and the Gaels (16-2-2 overall) still have Morristown to complete their conference schedule. West Morris has completed their schedule and now could only watch and wait to see where they finish in the conference.

The Roxbury Gaels (16-2-1) defended their MCT Championship with a 2-0 victory over the Mendham Minutemen (17-2) on Sunday at Morris Catholic HS. The Gael's Erica Peschken scored about 5 minutes into the game from an assist from Freshman Fallon Goodman and then Renee Tybus scored off of Peschken's corner kick midway through the second half to extend the lead to 2-0. Roxbury's team defense led by defenders Emilie Wilson, Danielle Rosatelli and Grace Crowley shut down Mendham's forward tandem of Jessica Bitsack and Lauren Dykstra.
Wilson was named Tournament MVP as Roxbury won it's 4th MCT Championship. The 2003-04 teams repeated as back to back MCT champions as did Roxbury's nationally ranked 1997-98 teams had done. All four of the Gaels championships were at the expense of the Minutemen.
Melissa Hall collected her 12th shutout of the season, 34th of her Varsity career while stopping three shots. This shutout extends Hall's school record formerly held by Lauren Baker (1995-98). It is also is Melissa's second shutout of Mendham in MCT Championship play. The Gaels won last year's game 1-0 in which Hall collected the MVP honors.

Weary and wounded Gaels play to 1-1 tie
(click on headline for game statistics and news coverage)
Coming off an emotional and physical Morris County Championship game yesterday vs Mendham the Gaels traveled to Mount Olive to play a conference makeup game from earlier this year. A sluggish start by the Gaels while resting some of their banged up regulars gave a determined Mount Olive team life after playing to a scoreless first half. Mount Olive scored 16 minutes into the second half and as darkness began to set in Roxbury was able to even the match with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Overtime began and Roxbury (16-2-2) controlled most of the play but was unable to capitalize on their scoring attempts. After just 7 minutes of overtime the referees called the game because of darkness.
Roxbury begins it's run in the NJSIAA State Tournament on Thursday when they will host conference foe Morris Knolls at 2pm. Morris Knolls defeated North Bergen (8-0) earlier today in the first round. Roxbury had a bye in the first round of the North 1 Group IV bracket.

The Gaels (6-2) only had two shots on goal the first half but made the most of their opportunities. Melissa Hall collected her 5th shutout of the season while stopping 8 shots on goal.

Roxbury defeats Morris Knolls in OT 3-2, JV & Freshmen win
(click link above for game statistics and news coverage)
Roxbury evened the season series in an overtime battle to push their season record to 9-2-1. Grace Crowley scored the first goal to even the match at 1 in the first half. Erica Peschken's goal early in the second half gave the Gaels a 2-1 lead but the Golden Eagles tied the match off of a corner kick sending the game into overtime. Peschken's second goal of the match in the 6th minute of overtime won it for the Gaels.
In other action on Tuesday
The Gaels Junior Varsity team shutout Morris Knolls 2-0.
The Gaels Freshmen team overpower Knolls 3-1. Although not at their sharpest, the Gaels nevertheless dominated play in the first half which ended at a scoreless draw. Right at the start of the second half though, it was obvious that the Roxbury freshmen decided it was time to play up to their abilities. After a number of good scoring opportunities, Julie Sedlacek put one in from the right side. This was followed soon after by a Colleen Lonergan goal that was set up by a sharp three pass combination from the midfielders and wings. During a brief period of Morris Knolls offensive pressure, the opponents closed the score to 2-1. A second goal from Lonergan soon after removed any thoughts of victory from the opponents and closed out the scoring at 3-1. The Gaels record is now 7-0-1.
