History of the RYHA:
Originated in 1964, the Rome Youth Hockey Association (RYHA) has offered thousand's of local youngsters the opportunity to have FUN while playing the great sport of ice hockey in the Rome, NY area. In 1969 we incorporated into the Fort Stanwix Hockey Association (FSHA) and recently reverted back to the RYHA in 2001, also taking on the common name of the ROME GRIZZLIES. Since our inception we have proudly graduated hundreds of quality players to Rome Free Academy, Rome Catholic High, and other local High School teams. Many of our players have gone on to excel at Division I, II, and III college programs, and some have climbed the ladder to the pro ranks. The Rome Grizzlies skating and hockey programs include the Initiation Program - IP, Mini-Mites, Mites, Squirts, Pee-Wees, Bantams, Midgets, and Women. The RYHA proudly skates out of the friendly confines of the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena. The IP includes our highly successful Learn-To-Skate program which caters to children 4 years old and up, and our beginner hockey program. The Rome Grizzlies are a member of USA Hockey and the New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA) and we play in the highly competitive Tier II Central Section of the NYSAHA. Visit our related links to learn more about our Association and please read our Mission Statement below to understand why our RYHA exists. Have Fun!
