The Rockingham Vipers are champions of Gridiron West after a thrilling game against the Perth Blitz that ended 50-43. It was a epic battle that will go down in History as one of the best Grand Finals ever. Both offences were on fire early & was just a matter of whos defence would make a stop 1st. The Vipers offence led by QB Ben Gastarov were on a roll & they moved the ball at will thanks to the awsome effort put in by his all star front 5 & some power house running by Vipers back field partners #37 Nate Lansdell & #31 Anthony "KIWI" Seve.
With the Vipers up by 19 at the half thanks to there rampaging offense & some handy defense work the team was pumped & ready for action in the second half. But a couple quick turnovers that resulted in Blitz TD turned the game right around. The Blitz D then stopped the Vipers on a few drives and before you knew it the Blitz were up 43-42.
Then came the Drive !!! With 2 min left in the game the Vipers got the ball off the kick to the 30 & the pressure was now on Qb Ben Gastarov and his mighty offence. The Blitz d then lined up in a full coverage defense with all but three players back trying to cover the pass. This was probably there biggest mistake as the Viper O line gave there QB all day to get rid of the ball & in turn they proceeded to drive the length of the field with some awesome catches by gun Wr Steve Prout (1td) , MVP Bojan Vucic(2td) and the young Matt "MONEY" Black(2td) with the game winner by Matt Black. With 34 seconds left the Blitz had no option but to bomb it up and with a interception to Steve Prout the game was over !!!
In what was ment to be a rebuilding year with so many rookies in the team it looks like ther could be a Dynasty building with the maroon and gold !! Well done Vipers !!!
