Lightning'92 Win Notre Dame Junior Irish Tournament
nd_logo
U12 Girls Champions
It was quite a weekend. Over two hundred teams (22 from RSSC), beautiful fields, some crazy weather and a lot of excitement. The Lady Lightning went undefeated in their pool beating teams from Indiana & Illinois and then beat the Patriots from Shelby Michigan 1-0 in the championship game. The winning goal was a combination of smart thinking, hustle, and great pass and a perfect shot to bring home the win. Jenna step in front of one of the Patriots on their throw in and out muscled her for the advantage, she raced out wide and drew the defense with her while Angela made a run to net. Jenna made the cross at the perfect time and Angela crushed the ball for the 1-0 lead. The girls played great defense and controlled the ball for most of the game. The Patriots made one last rush but our girls would not be denied this victory and raced to Parisa as she posted her 3rd shutout of the tournament. Coach Juan complimented the girls on their great play during the trophy presentation and then everyone headed to their cars for the ride home to get ready for three more league games. Great Tournament girls - you played awesome!!!

LIGHTNING'92 CLINCH PREMIER 1 SPOT
mspsl_final2004spring
FINAL 2004 STANDINGS
With their 2-0 win over the Patriots the Lady Lightning'92 have clinched a spot in the top six teams of the premier 1 division in the MSPSL. The girls played one of their best games on a very sloppy field. There were huge puddles that the ball came to a instant halt everytime it landed in one. It was almost comical at times to see the girls swimming for a loose ball. Natalie found the net twice and Haley had one called back on a great cross. Parisa and the defense eliminated any chance the Patriots had to score. The girls controlled the ball for over 85% of the game and really played with a ton of energy and team spirit. To the left are the final standings for the MSPSL Premier 1 2004 Spring league. Based on the MSPSL rules The teams highlighted in green should be the Premier 1 teams in the fall - The teams in red are going to be Premier 2. To Coach Juan and the players - that was a great season. Your goal was to be a premier one team this fall and you did it.

Congratulations 2004 - 2005 Team
Congratulations to the 2004 - 2005 Rochester Lightning'92 and Thunder. After a wonderful turnout for tryouts Coach Juan and Coach Gorden have picked their teams. Both teams are loaded with talent and great attitudes. Good Luck to all the players and families in the up coming season.

The 2004/2005 Lady Lightning picked up right where they left off from last season - playing every minute with all their energy and working very hard. The Lightning added seven excellent players to a very talented group and it produced some great soccer this weekend. The girls won their first two games by the score of 3-1 and 3-0. The came up against an allstar team from Ohio and battled to the end in a 1-0 defeat. The game was very competitive and extremely aggressive. The girls did not back down and started to really click on their combinations and communication late in the game. It was a wonderful weekend of soccer and the players had a ton of fun together. Awesome start to a new look and a new season girls - keep up the effort and teamwork - big things are in your future!!! Click on the flashing camera to the left for game photos.

Rochester Brings Lightning To Ann Arbor For 2-1 Win
soccerball_greatgame
As the team pulled out of the Rochester area it didn't look good that the game would be played today. The rain was falling and Lightning was in the air. But, in the Ann Arbor area the skies were clear and the sun was shinning through out the game. So the girls from the RSSC thought it was only fair to bring the Lightning to the game - and there was no stopping them. The Ann Arbor team could not over come the defensive pressure applied by Ashley, Danna, Lindsay, Jill and Olivia. The only shot on goal was a direct kick that just got under the bar for a goal. Parisa was on top of everything in her area and put the team in great field position with her terrific punts. The Lady Lightning worked great together highlighted by an awesome direct kick by Amanda that Angela timed perfectly for a header goal. Haley's hustle set up the game winning goal when she outworked the Arsenal defense and got the advantage in the box. The defensive player fouled Haley as she broke towards the goal and Angela snapped in the penalty kick to give the girls a well deserved 2-1 win. Alyssa and Nicky did a super job of breaking free and creating scoring chances. Jenna, Kelly, Rachel and Jordan were fantastic in the midfield keeping possession and not allowing the ball out of the Arsenal end. Super start to a great season girls - keep up the hustle and keep out working the other team it is going to make a huge difference!!!

Lightning open up Troy tourney with 2-0 win
The lady lightning opened up the Troy tournament with a convincing win over USL team united 2-0. Amanda fired a perfect corner kick on net and Angela headed it in for the first goal. Parisa, who was outstanding in goal, blasted the ball over mid field and Nicky found Amanda open for a pretty second goal. The defense shut down any chance the USL team had and the girls played a very aggressive complete game to earn the victory. Tomorrow's games will decide who goes into Monday's semi finals so the girls will need to keep up the excellent effort they put forth today. Great Game Lightning'92!!!

Your Rochester Lightning'92 were very stingy today. They played two games and only gave up two shots on goal. The defense was awesome all day and the girls worked great together setting up a ton of scoring opportunities. They won the early game 7-0 and the evening game 6-0. They now advance to the semi finals against the very tough Rochester Thunder. The Thunder are well coached and will be a handful - the Lightning girls will have to continue to play awesome together as a team just like they did today. This was a super day for the girls - they are really coming together as a team and have already shown each other how much they care for one another by their hustle and hard work. Good luck in the semi's ladies!!!

The defense was awesome, the scoring chances were brilliant, the team work was spectacular - the Rochester Lightning'92 are the 2004 Troy Tournament Champions. The girls played a tough Rochester Thunder team in the semi finals this morning. The Thunder used their speed and toughness to their advantage and played a super game. The Lady Lightning took a 1-0 lead into the half on a blast by Angela and added a great redirection second half goal by Haley. Danna played a phenomenal game on defense not allowing any Thunder players to get behind her or to set up any kind of attack - Super Game Danna. In the finals the girls took on USL team United - the Lightning had beat them 2-0 in pool play and knew they would have to play a great game to win the championship. A great game it was - Alyssa scored early on a break away and Jenna blasted one in from the 18 yard mark to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Ashley, Danna and Jill dominated in the second half defensively and Nicki, Alyssa and Lindsay knocked in goals 3,4 and 5. Amanda continued her super play and awesome corner kicks. The Lightning midfielders - Rachel, Jordan, Tiffany, Kelly and Olivia played with awesome energy winning all the tackles and finding the open team-mate. Parisa was fabulous posting five shutouts and always putting the Lady Lightning in great field position. Click on the flashing camera to the left for photos from the weekend!!!

Lightning open up State Cup with 1-0 Win!!!
Teamwork and tenacity - thats what gave the Rochester Lightning their State Cup opening round win over Novi. The girls traveled through rush hour traffic, warmed up and grinded out a 1-0 victory. The defense was outstanding, the girls played together and won all the 50/50 balls. The game's only goal came on a big throw in by Jordan that Amanda put herself in perfect position to shield off the Novi defender to flick the ball on for Angela to one time it into the back of the net. Parisa did a super job in goal posting the shutout. She came out and cleared the ball before any attacks could start - way to stay focused Parisa!!! Great job tonight ladies - your hustle was awesome and your teamwork is getting better with each game we play together :)

The field was a little rough and the ball was taking some funny bounces but the girls from Rochester were in the right spot at the right time and used their skills to bring home this 3-1 victory of the girls from Bloomfield. Both teams played very aggressive and hustled through out the game. Amanda knocked in the first Lightning goal on a direct kick from over 30 yards. Tiffany scored the second on a beautiful header and Rachel timed a rebound perfectly to score goal number 3. Parisa and the defense were awesome as usual. The girls play one more State Cup pool game tomorrow against TKO. CLICK ON THE FLASHING CAMERA FOR GAME PHOTOS.

Lightning'92 on their way to State Cup Quarter Finals
GREAT_GAME2005
Defense and determination - plain and simple - the girls were not going to be denied a trip to the State Cup Quarter Finals on October 2nd. The Lady Lightning beat TKO today 2-0 in their final State Cup pool game giving them a perfect 3-0 record. Parisa and the defensive - led by Ashley, Danna, Jill and Lindsay were fabulous. They played strong and answered ever challenge that was thrown at them. Great job Parisa and your defensive group - you were awesome!!! Amanda, Nicky and Alyssa constantly broke free and made great runs on net - their hustle and constant effort kept TKO off balance and created great opportunities. Alyssa scored both goals on excellent heads up plays that she flat outworked the defense to find the net. Angela, Jenna, Jordan and Kelly were super controlling the midfield. Haley, Olivia, Tiffany and Rachel put tons of pressure on the TKO defense from the outside to open up the field. The Rochester girls now advance to the State Cup Quarters finals where they will meet Grand Valley West. CLICK ON THE FLASHING CAMERA FOR GAME PHOTOS!!!

JUST THE FACTS - We have a Great Coach!!!
We know how hard Coach Juan coaches and how much he cares about his players. Well all the hard work and the time he takes to get to know his players and their families is paying off. Both his U11 and U13 Lightning Girls teams won the Troy tournament and are doing well in league. This morning the State rankings came out and the U11's are ranked 4th in the state and the U13's are ranked 5th. Thanks Coach for all of your time and caring you put into the girls!!!

Lady Lightning Finish Strong in 2-0 defeat to Vardar
A slow start led to a 2-0 deficit against one of the best teams in the country. The girls found themselves down 2-0 after 10 minutes of play against Vardar. The next 60 minutes were a blast to watch. Everyone played hard and created opportunities. The girls communicated and worked great together - sometimes you need to learn lessons and find out that you have what it takes to play with the good teams. Vardar is a very good team and our Rochester girls played with them minute for minute step by step. The girls "left it all on the field" and should be proud of themselves. LADY LIGHTNING you now know that no matter who you play you can be successful as a team!!! Super effort - you played hard and stuck together - that is the mark of a champion!!!

Hawks Beat Lightning 2-1 On Late Header Goal

The Lady Lightning'92 battled all game long. The score at half time was 0-0. The Hawks scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half on a one timer. But as they always do the girls battled back and with 8 minutes to play they tied it up 1-1 on a beautiful goal by Angela that was assisted on by two great plays by Amanda and Jordan. Jordan's big throw was headed on by Amanda who did a excellent job of shielding off the defender. Jordan powered her way through a defender to lay the ball off to Angela who made two quick moves and then blasted an upper corner goal. Give the Hawks credit with less then two minutes left they created an opportunity and served a perfect ball into the box that was headed in for the game winner. Haley and Lindsay did an outstanding job defending the speedy Hawk forwards and Parisa did a super job in goal. This was our first game with out Ashley who broke her wrist in the Vardar game. Ashley hurry back you are a big part of our team. Everyone did a nice job in some new positions today. The girls have a practice on Monday and then another league game on Wednesday against Gross Pointe. Keep up the hustle girls - every game you are getting better and the teamwork is right there - all the parents are proud of you!!!

Haley, Lindsay & Jill lead the way to 1-0 win over Breakers
rebound2
BONG - BONG - BONG - WHOOSH!!!!! That was the sound from field 2 at Borden Park tonight. The Lady Lightning hit the top cross bar three times and followed up a rebound for the only goal to beat Grosse Pointe 1-0. Haley marked the speedy Breaker forward and did a fabulous job of not letting her have any chances on Parisa (another shutout Parisa - your awesome, way to cover up the penalty kick). Jill was outstanding at sweeper never letting a ball get played in and Lindsay did not allow anyone to get around her to put pressure on net - super game girls. Tiffany, Jordan and Alyssa were excellent and alert winning all the 50/50 balls and keeping the pressure up all game long. The lone goal was scored on a direct kick missile from Amanda that the goal keeper couldn't handle and Angela made a perfect run to goal to knock in the rebound. Rachel, Nicki, Olivia and Danna did a very good job out wide and Jenna and Kelly controlled the midfield.   A total team effort tonight girls - keep it up as we roll into State Cup weekend!!!

Shoot Out Decides State Cup Game
Coach Juan asked the girls to play hard and leave it all on the field. That they did!!! The girls gave each other every ounce of hustle and energy they had and played a tough Grand Valley West team to a 2-2 tie in regulation and two overtimes. Grand Valley won in the shootout to advance to play Vardar on Sunday. The Lightning girls found themselves down 1-0 in the first 5 minutes. One thing you can count on is these girls play hard and care about each other. Danna rang the bell with a blast outside the 18 yard line to tie the game 1-1. Five minutes later Amanda found Angela on a cross and the girls were up 2-1. Parisa stopped a ton of shots and make some super saves. The game stayed at 2-1 until the last 8 minutes when Grand Valley tied it up 2-2. Lady Lightning be proud of your effort and the way you supported each other all game long. The way you stuck together and never backed down was awesome and is what teammates are all about. Great game today girls!!!

Lightning Strikes at Night
weather_com
The Lady Lightning played their first night game at Borden Park tonight. The girls came away with an exciting 1-0 win over a tough Canton team. The halftime score was 0-0. Rochester dominated the play throughout the second half and then "Lightning Struck". Amanda played a quick throw in to Angela who immediately passed the ball back off to Amanda who cross it to Alyssa. Alyssa found Nicki breaking in towards the goal and played a perfect pass to her feet. Nicki "one timed" it to the back of the net for the game winner. Ashley returned to the lineup tonight and played awesome. Jill did a great job at sweeper. Haley was outstanding again playing at a level that has made her one of the best defenders in the league. Great job Parisa posting another shutout. Lightning'92 your speed and conditioning made a big difference tonight and even more important you played together and that team-work is huge as we become one of the most dangerous teams in the state.

Lightning92 Beat Gators 3-1
The game was played in a down pour for most of the game. The field was soggy and the footing was not very good. But the girls from Rochester played hard for 70 minutes and brought home a 3-1 victory over a very good Gators team. An early 1-0 lead got the Lady Lightning on track quick. A perfect corner kick by Amanda was one timed by Angela to put the girls in the lead. A big throw by Jordan was headed on by Amanda to Kelly. Kelly controlled the ball and did an awesome job of shielding off the Gator defender giving Rachel time to break free to receive a perfect pass from Kelly and WHAM Rachel made the score 2-0. Another corner kick led to the third Lightning goal - Amanda served a great ball into the box and when the ball came loose from the goalie's hands Angela was there to make it 3-0. The girls really played good and a big thank you goes out to Gordon for taking the team to victory tonight. Parisa was solid in net and the defense played super in the back. The girls have practice on Tuesday and Thursday this week and then head out to the west side of the state for their final three fall games. Wonderful game tonight girls - keep up the outstanding effort and finish the season strong!!!

AAA Performance Leads to 4-1 Win
AAA standing for Alyssa, Angela and Amanda. Between the three of the them they scored four goals to beat a tough Grand Valley East team 4-1. Tiffany was awesome in goal making a huge save in the first half on a direct kick that looked like it was going to blow in but she jumped up and knock the ball away just below the cross bar. The game was played in 20-30 mph winds that played tricks on the ball. The Lady Lightning midfielders and defense were awesome setting up the "AAA" connection time and time again keeping the offensive pressure up. If there was ever a game that spelled complete team effort this was it. The girls hustled and communicated the entire 70 minutes. Awesome game 92!!!

In the final two games of the season the girls continued to play hard and dropped a couple close ones to Grand Valley Premier West and TKO. The team now heads indoor for the winter to sharpen their skills and train for the spring season. That was a fun season Lady Lightning - you came together as a team and your future looks very bright.

Lightning'92 Wish Coach Juan Well - Welcome Coach Gordon
With the Spring season a month away the Lady Lightning'92 want to wish Coach Juan the best of luck with his high school team and a huge THANK YOU for everything he has done for the team and the girls over the last four years.  Juan has been a fabulous coach for the girls starting with them when they were U10's.  He has built the team into one of the elite teams in the state and has made every girl a better player and made it a ton of fun along the way.  He moves on leaving the team in great hands as Gordon Gardiner takes over at the helm.  Gordon is a current RSSC coach and in his 5th season as the womens goalkeeper coach at Oakland University.  Prior to Oakland, Gordon worked for Leeds United Football Club in England.
The team is very excited and proud to have Gordon as our new coach and feel very fortunate to have spent the last four years with a spectacular coach like coach Juan.

Season Over
Well girls that's it for another year of soccer.

In a topsy turvy year that saw a coach change in the Spring, you guys responded well despite your early doubts.  You are guaranteed at least 4th place in the best division in Michigan Soccer.  Just think back to the Northville game and the number of chances, you could be in 3rd place.

With an improving record of  5 -2 -2 on the Fall season (5 - 4 - 0) I thought at times we played some really good soccer but then we hid in a shell for two games.

I have enjoyed my first season as your coach and I look forward to next year.

Some advise for tryouts.  Prepare, relax and try and have fun.

Well done girls

For the second season running you have made the 1/4 finals of the State cup with som pretty decent soccer.

The task ahead is to reach the 1/2 finals where we will most probably meet Vardar 92.  Novi will not be easy opponents this time around, so we best forget the previous results against this team.

Overall a good start to the season, find a wee corner for your first trophy of the season.
