Lightning open up Troy tourney with 2-0 win
The lady lightning opened up the Troy tournament with a convincing win over USL team united 2-0. Amanda fired a perfect corner kick on net and Angela headed it in for the first goal. Parisa, who was outstanding in goal, blasted the ball over mid field and Nicky found Amanda open for a pretty second goal. The defense shut down any chance the USL team had and the girls played a very aggressive complete game to earn the victory. Tomorrow's games will decide who goes into Monday's semi finals so the girls will need to keep up the excellent effort they put forth today. Great Game Lightning'92!!!

Lightning open up State Cup with 1-0 Win!!!
Teamwork and tenacity - thats what gave the Rochester Lightning their State Cup opening round win over Novi. The girls traveled through rush hour traffic, warmed up and grinded out a 1-0 victory. The defense was outstanding, the girls played together and won all the 50/50 balls. The game's only goal came on a big throw in by Jordan that Amanda put herself in perfect position to shield off the Novi defender to flick the ball on for Angela to one time it into the back of the net. Parisa did a super job in goal posting the shutout. She came out and cleared the ball before any attacks could start - way to stay focused Parisa!!! Great job tonight ladies - your hustle was awesome and your teamwork is getting better with each game we play together :)

We know how hard Coach Juan coaches and how much he cares about his players. Well all the hard work and the time he takes to get to know his players and their families is paying off. Both his U11 and U13 Lightning Girls teams won the Troy tournament and are doing well in league. This morning the State rankings came out and the U11's are ranked 4th in the state and the U13's are ranked 5th. Thanks Coach for all of your time and caring you put into the girls!!!
Lady Lightning Finish Strong in 2-0 defeat to Vardar
A slow start led to a 2-0 deficit against one of the best teams in the country. The girls found themselves down 2-0 after 10 minutes of play against Vardar. The next 60 minutes were a blast to watch. Everyone played hard and created opportunities. The girls communicated and worked great together - sometimes you need to learn lessons and find out that you have what it takes to play with the good teams. Vardar is a very good team and our Rochester girls played with them minute for minute step by step. The girls "left it all on the field" and should be proud of themselves. LADY LIGHTNING you now know that no matter who you play you can be successful as a team!!! Super effort - you played hard and stuck together - that is the mark of a champion!!!

Shoot Out Decides State Cup Game
Coach Juan asked the girls to play hard and leave it all on the field. That they did!!! The girls gave each other every ounce of hustle and energy they had and played a tough Grand Valley West team to a 2-2 tie in regulation and two overtimes. Grand Valley won in the shootout to advance to play Vardar on Sunday. The Lightning girls found themselves down 1-0 in the first 5 minutes. One thing you can count on is these girls play hard and care about each other. Danna rang the bell with a blast outside the 18 yard line to tie the game 1-1. Five minutes later Amanda found Angela on a cross and the girls were up 2-1. Parisa stopped a ton of shots and make some super saves. The game stayed at 2-1 until the last 8 minutes when Grand Valley tied it up 2-2. Lady Lightning be proud of your effort and the way you supported each other all game long. The way you stuck together and never backed down was awesome and is what teammates are all about. Great game today girls!!!

Lightning92 Beat Gators 3-1
The game was played in a down pour for most of the game. The field was soggy and the footing was not very good. But the girls from Rochester played hard for 70 minutes and brought home a 3-1 victory over a very good Gators team. An early 1-0 lead got the Lady Lightning on track quick. A perfect corner kick by Amanda was one timed by Angela to put the girls in the lead. A big throw by Jordan was headed on by Amanda to Kelly. Kelly controlled the ball and did an awesome job of shielding off the Gator defender giving Rachel time to break free to receive a perfect pass from Kelly and WHAM Rachel made the score 2-0. Another corner kick led to the third Lightning goal - Amanda served a great ball into the box and when the ball came loose from the goalie's hands Angela was there to make it 3-0. The girls really played good and a big thank you goes out to Gordon for taking the team to victory tonight. Parisa was solid in net and the defense played super in the back. The girls have practice on Tuesday and Thursday this week and then head out to the west side of the state for their final three fall games. Wonderful game tonight girls - keep up the outstanding effort and finish the season strong!!!
AAA Performance Leads to 4-1 Win
AAA standing for Alyssa, Angela and Amanda. Between the three of the them they scored four goals to beat a tough Grand Valley East team 4-1. Tiffany was awesome in goal making a huge save in the first half on a direct kick that looked like it was going to blow in but she jumped up and knock the ball away just below the cross bar. The game was played in 20-30 mph winds that played tricks on the ball. The Lady Lightning midfielders and defense were awesome setting up the "AAA" connection time and time again keeping the offensive pressure up. If there was ever a game that spelled complete team effort this was it. The girls hustled and communicated the entire 70 minutes. Awesome game 92!!!
In the final two games of the season the girls continued to play hard and dropped a couple close ones to Grand Valley Premier West and TKO. The team now heads indoor for the winter to sharpen their skills and train for the spring season. That was a fun season Lady Lightning - you came together as a team and your future looks very bright.

Lightning'92 Wish Coach Juan Well - Welcome Coach Gordon
With the Spring season a month away the Lady Lightning'92 want to wish Coach Juan the best of luck with his high school team and a huge THANK YOU for everything he has done for the team and the girls over the last four years. Juan has been a fabulous coach for the girls starting with them when they were U10's. He has built the team into one of the elite teams in the state and has made every girl a better player and made it a ton of fun along the way. He moves on leaving the team in great hands as Gordon Gardiner takes over at the helm. Gordon is a current RSSC coach and in his 5th season as the womens goalkeeper coach at Oakland University. Prior to Oakland, Gordon worked for Leeds United Football Club in England.
The team is very excited and proud to have Gordon as our new coach and feel very fortunate to have spent the last four years with a spectacular coach like coach Juan.

Season Over
Well girls that's it for another year of soccer.
In a topsy turvy year that saw a coach change in the Spring, you guys responded well despite your early doubts. You are guaranteed at least 4th place in the best division in Michigan Soccer. Just think back to the Northville game and the number of chances, you could be in 3rd place.
With an improving record of 5 -2 -2 on the Fall season (5 - 4 - 0) I thought at times we played some really good soccer but then we hid in a shell for two games.
I have enjoyed my first season as your coach and I look forward to next year.
Some advise for tryouts. Prepare, relax and try and have fun.

Champions
Well done girls, back to back champions at the Jr Irish Tournament.
With a 5 - 0 - 0 record, we scored 17 goals and only conceded 4.
Fast fluent attractive soccer in the final game was to much for our opponents.
Well done girls, now lets take this fine run of wins back to our league play.

State Cup 1/4's
Well done girls
For the second season running you have made the 1/4 finals of the State cup with som pretty decent soccer.
The task ahead is to reach the 1/2 finals where we will most probably meet Vardar 92. Novi will not be easy opponents this time around, so we best forget the previous results against this team.
Play hard, get to the ball first and lets move on.

Champions!
Well done girls.
What a way to finish our pre season games. Although I feel we did not reach our best potential, we managed to grind out wins in this tournie. With a few scares along the way in the semi finals, some good goalkeeping saw us through to the final.
Overall a good start to the season, find a wee corner for your first trophy of the season.
