Robbinsdale wins District One Championship
Riley Cass pitched six strong innings and allowed just 5 hits as
Robbinsdale beat Coon Rapids National 6-3 to win the District One 11
year old Little League title. It's Robbinsdale's first 11 year old
district title since 2004. Cass was the beneficiary of a strong defense
that turned three double plays.
Robbinsdale opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning.
Ben Suits RBI grounder scored Keenan Kuhn with the first run. AJ Batta
then singled home two more to make it 3-0 Robbinsdale after one.
Robbinsdale's lead was 4-1 in the 5th when Cass singled home a run
followed by an RBI single by Tony Langfellow to round out Robbinsdale's
scoring. Coon Rapids scored two in the 6th but came up short as
Robbinsdale earns a berth in the state tournament July 29 through
August 2nd in Grand Rapids.
For the tournament Robbinsdale finished 9 and 1, including a
3-and-1 record against Coon Rapids National. Robbinsdale scored 140
runs and hit an astounding 25 homeruns in the 10 games.
Robbinsdale moves into District One Championship
Robbinsdale's 11 year old all-stars beat Plymouth/New Hope 19-4 Tuesday
night (July 21) to move into the District one Little League championship against
Coon Rapids National.
Robbinsdale built a 9-3 lead before putting up 10 runs in the 5th
inning to put the game away. Pinch hitter Tony Digregorio hit a pair of
homeruns in the 5th including a grand slam to cap off the inning.
Robbinsdale also got homeruns from Ben Suits, Blake Heilman and AJ
Batta. They have hit a whopping 24 homeruns in 8 tournament games, in
which their record is now 7-and-1. Robbinsdale will have to beat Coon
Rapids twice in order to win the title. The two teams have split the
two games they have played in the tournament thus far.
The two teams
meet Wednesday July 22 at 6:30 at Zachary Park in Plymouth. If Robbinsdale wins,
they will meet again Thursday at 6:30. The tournament champion earns a
berth to next week's state tournament in Grand Rapids.
