Congratulations to my twins, Tony and Tasha Adams for receiving college scholarships and making their mother and I empty nesters.
Tasha has been accepted into the DNIMAS Honors program at Norfolk State University and will be studying optical engineering. The program is not only one of the few accredited Optical engineering programs in the country but provides the support and structure she needs to ensure her success.
Tony will be attending Alabama A&M on a full ride basketball scholarship. Originally he was slated to attend prep school but after visiting Alabama A&M decided it had everything he was looking for: Division I school, small class sizes, warm climate and an opportunity to play right away.
After four years of working hard in high school the sacrifices have paid off as each received scholarships and are headed to warmer, wetter climates to pursue their college degrees. Congratulations to each of them! I couldn't be prouder!

Congratulation to Tru-Playaz Basketball Club member Trevor Williams who has been selected for the Nike Hoops Jamboree. Only 120 players in the entire country were chosen for this honor. Trevor Williams will compete June 12 - 16, 2007 in St Louis, MO against some of the top players in the country. Good Luck and God Speed!!!!!
Trevor Williams gets high praise after Nike Hoop Jamboree. This is what John Stovall of Prep Spotlight had to say about Trevor Williams after the Nike Jamboree ... 6'11" 250 -5- Denver, CO. (Denver Lutheran) -Trevor is a raw and athletic low post player. Very under publicized and under rated nationally. I expect Trevor to bust onto everyone's radar soon. He reminds me a lot of David Harrison (Indiana Pacers) at the same stage. Trevor is like a bull in a China shop right now but he does do some good things. If Trevor continues to develop look for him to be a consensus top 50 player. Right now I would say he is top 75 in the 2009 class nationally. AAU Team: ??? High Major. Dave Telep from Scout.com also had some nice things to say: Liked him very much. Thought he had a chance to be a productive high major prospect. Great attitude in a tough setting and a good kid. Didn’t know a lot about him going in and was very impressed.
Congratulation to Tru-Playaz Basketball Club member Andrew Zehnder. Andrew Zehnder from Standley Lake High School will be joining the University of Colorado Men's Basketball Team as a walk on for the 2007 - 2008 season! Job well done and Good Luck!!!!!

The first time I coached: I was 13 years old when I first started coaching. There was a group of high school players hanging on out on the play grounds at Lathrop Elementary over on Homan and Douglas Park.So I spoke with the Janitor to see if he had any rims that we could hang up for the courts outside. He went into the basement and found the old rims and made me responsible for putting them up and bringing them down everyday, the janitor did want these to be stolen. So I became responsible for putting them up everyday. So I met with the players that would use the courts as a hang out area to see if they would like to play basketball. This is how I got started. So I would hold an official practice everyday at this court, but it would not stop there.Richard a security guard from Marshall High School asked me if I would like to go into business with him and we started a men's summer league.Richard made the money and I enjoy coaching a Men's team in the summer league. At the age of 13 I was just excited about coaching not making money even though I grew up on welfare. The league was important to me as must as it was importantf to the players.Everyone knew my mom Miss Clara Muhammad who carried the same name as Elijah Muhammad wife.So out of respect when players came to play at the Lathrop Elementary Men's Summer League they would leave their guns and knives in the car or at home.I would hear players whisper that is Clara Muhammad's son.So the court would become the neutral grounds for all gangs, Vice Lords and Disciples. At that time I did not realize why this was important until I got older and understood what my mom was involved in and why people like Wallace Dean Muhammad and others were best friends with my mom.But basketball was the only thing on my mind. The best part about this is watching Randy Brown who played for the Chicago Bulls and his brothers all live right across from the school would now use this as a practice ground.Tony Brown, Paul Beene, Marcus Liberty and the list can go on of the players that would start working out at this court. This was the best time to be a coach on this court to me.
Why basketball is so important to me: I have been homeless twice in my lifetime, once as a child with my mother and the second time when I was an adult.Life for me had changed the second time when I was homeless.I realize at that time my friends and my pledge brothers (besides Joe) would not lend a helping hand when I was homeless. The way I got off the streets was a middle school kid I would teach basketball to everyday while I was homeless.I know this sounds weird. One day I walk past this school and saw a kid trying to play basketball by himself. So I stop to watch to see what he was trying to do with the basketball.I walked over to the kid and ask if would like help learning how to play, he reply yes.So from that day on we worked out at that court for 3 months. The kid asked if he could come and hang out with me sometime and I had to let him know the truth that I was homeless. The kid said that I am sorry to hear that and got quite and we went back to working out.So the next day we worked out he asked me to come with him.So I did and this is when I met his mother. So special thanks to God, Shirley and Jimmy Buckner they gave me a home and I went to work from there. So Basketball to me was my Safe Haven. So I teach basketball for the same reason I taught Jimmy Buckner for the Love of the Game.
