After 18 years of traveling around the country working with some great players and good people it is time for me to put up the traveling shoes and pass the tourch on to the next generation of Tru-Playaz Basketball Club Coaches in Colorado. So in 2009 I will appoint the new leaders of coaches to take over. I will move to the Director spot and hopefully start a new chapter. As always a special thanks to God, players, college coaches, sponsors, parents and my family for all of their support over the past 18 years.

Congratulation to Tru-Playaz Basketball Club member Trevor Williams who has been selected for the Nike Hoops Jamboree. Only 120 players in the entire country were chosen for this honor. Trevor Williams will compete June 12 - 16, 2007 in St Louis, MO against some of the top players in the country. Good Luck and God Speed!!!!!
Trevor Williams gets high praise after Nike Hoop Jamboree. This is what John Stovall of Prep Spotlight had to say about Trevor Williams after the Nike Jamboree ... 6'11" 250 -5- Denver, CO. (Denver Lutheran) -Trevor is a raw and athletic low post player. Very under publicized and under rated nationally. I expect Trevor to bust onto everyone's radar soon. He reminds me a lot of David Harrison (Indiana Pacers) at the same stage. Trevor is like a bull in a China shop right now but he does do some good things. If Trevor continues to develop look for him to be a consensus top 50 player. Right now I would say he is top 75 in the 2009 class nationally. AAU Team: ??? High Major. Dave Telep from Scout.com also had some nice things to say: Liked him very much. Thought he had a chance to be a productive high major prospect. Great attitude in a tough setting and a good kid. Didn’t know a lot about him going in and was very impressed.
Congratulation to Tru-Playaz Basketball Club member Andrew Zehnder. Andrew Zehnder from Standley Lake High School will be joining the University of Colorado Men's Basketball Team as a walk on for the 2007 - 2008 season! Job well done and Good Luck!!!!!
Congratulation to the Tru-Playaz Basketball Club JV team for winning the April 14-15, 2007 MAYB Tournament and doing it with Class! Click here to see MAYB Results
Shawn Dirden, Head Coach of Cherokee Trail to take over the Coaching Staff of Tru-Playaz Basketball Club in Colorado:
Shawn Dirden begins his first season as head coach for the Cougars. He came to Cherokee Trail after spending the last three seasons at the college ranks. Shawn spent one season as an assistant coach at Juco power house Indian Hills, before joining the staff at Division I, Montana State University for two seasons. Dirden has a coaching background extending 8 summers of AAU basketball. Many of his teams have appeared in several final rounds and final games on the AAU circuit. Dirden says, "I love coaching in the spring and summer because it allows me to reach and work with so many more kids in the state. My focus is on player development first, and secondly putting my kids in a position to show college scouts what they can do. The winning quickly follows if we have success in the first two areas. I am so excited about being back in Denver both at the high school level, and AAU summer ball." Dirden has worked with and coached 5 Colorado POY, several more Colorado All-State and All-League players. Dirden has also been fortunate to help guide and get over 75 Colorado athletes to college. Dirden coached 16's and 17's Colorado Hawks, before starting his own program Colorado Focus. "I think the last 3 years I spent coaching college, and making contacts at that level will only better allow me to help my kids during the summer."Dirden was the head basketball coach at George Washington HS in Denver 2002-2005 prior to coaching at the college level. All three of his teams at Washington High made it to the final 16 of the 5A playoffs and the 2005 team advanced to the final 8. Dirden's three-year record was 53-29. He proudly points out that 14 of the 17 seniors who played for him at Washington graduated and went on to play college basketball. Dirden basketball career started at George Washington, before transferring and graduating from Overland HS in 1992. An All-League and All-State performer, he later went on to play at Otero JC, and the University of Idaho. His professional career began with the NBA's Phoenix Suns in 1997. After being released early in the season, Dirden played in the CBA, USBL, and in overseas. Dirden’s 5 seasons overseas took him to Lebanon, China, Sweden, Korea and Holland. Dirden really believes in athletes being student-athletes and pushing themselves to be successful on and off the court. Dirden's father Johnnie played in the NFL. Dirden is married to beautiful, supporting and caring wife Sierra, and they have a 2-year old son, Damian.
